Born in a small village, Vijay Pratap Singh’s early education took place in a
Hindi-medium school in India. In 2012, he graduated from university and began
working in a bank in Hyderabad. However, adapting to life in this southern city
proved tough. “It was difficult to manage food, language and social customs. I could hardly fit into the local community,” Vijay recalled. At that time, he was used to
exploring nearby forests and mountains for peace, and weekends offered him the perfect escape into the wilderness.
Vijay was also planning something bigger. At just 23, he left his banking job to follow a different kind of climb: founding Adven Thrill, an adventure travel company. He knew that understanding the technicalities (技术细节) of the sport was important. So he completed a mountaineering course at the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering.
Over time, he developed a group of trek (远足) leaders, who were required to
complete basic and advanced mountaineering courses, and receive training in search

and rescue along with first aid.
Trekkers are advised to follow a 20-day exercise plan at home before a
trek.“Anyone can apply, but they must provide medical test reports from a doctor,” Vijay said. The reports are checked before booking. “That’s why we only accept
sign-ups a month in advance — to ensure there’s enough time to review their
condition,” Vijay explained. “Before the trek begins every day, we also conduct medical check-ups to track blood pressure and other important signs. If anyone is found unfit, they are cared for at the base camp.”
Looking ahead, Vijay wants to map and open new, unexplored trekking paths to present India’s great trekking opportunities. “It’s a slow process, requiring advanced GPS mapping and groundwork, but one that could reshape the trekking landscape in India. If the right safety measures and infrastructure (基础设施) are put in place, we can attract more international trekkers. I hope to place India on the global trekking
map,” Vijay said.

Scientists have got new findings about the techniques (技法) that Leonardo da Vinci used in painting theMona Lisa. The researchers discovered the oil paint that
Leonardo used for the painting’s base layer (层) appears to have been different from that used for other parts of the painting.“He loved to experiment. After studying the
chemistry of lots of works by Leonardo, Rembrandt and other artists, I have
discovered that each of Leonardo’s paintings is completely different technically,” said Victor Gonzalez, the study’s lead author.
The scientists studied the chemical make-up of a tiny piece of the Mona Lisa by using X-rays in a large machine. They found an uncommon chemical in Leonardo’s
paints.“Since the chemical is a natural result of lead oxide (氧化铅), the discovery
proved for the first time what art historians had earlier supposed,” saidGonzalez.“That is, Leonardo probably used that lead oxide to thicken his paints and help shorten their wet conditions as he began working on the painting.”
Carmen Bambach, a specialist in Italian art, called the research very
exciting.“Any scientifically proven new views on Leonardo’s painting techniques are extremely encouraging news for the art world and a worldwide community. Finding the chemical in the Mona Lisa proves that Leonardo’s spirit of continuous
experimentation as a painter makes him timeless and modern,” said Bambach.
Besides Leonardo, Dutch master Rembrandt may have used a similar chemical in his paints when he painted in the 17th century. Gonzalez and other researchers have
found the uncommon chemical in his works, too.“It tells us that the methods that Leonardo used were clearly picked up by more artists and lasted for
centuries,”Gonzalez said.
试卷第 7 页,共 15 页
But the Mona Lisa and other works by Leonardo still have other secrets to
tell.“There are more facts to discover for sure. We are only just touching the surface,” Gonzalez said.“What we are sharing is just a drop in the ocean of knowledge about
his works.”
8 .Why did Victor Gonzalez mention Rembrandt and other artists at first
A .To explain the similarities in classic art.
B .To praise the wide influence of the Mona Lisa.
C .To stress the particularity of Leonardo’s works.
D .To suggest Leonardo’s deep interest in chemistry.
9 .What function might the uncommon chemical serve in Leonardo’s paints
A .Adding a bright shine to them.
B .Speeding up their drying process.
C .Stopping them from being touched.
D .Joining them to the paper surface strongly.
10 .What do Carmen Bambach’s words about Leonardo suggest
A .Leonardo’s view on failure is worth learning.
B .The chemical was Leonardo’s key discovery.
C .The Mona Lisa made Italian artworks well known.
D .Exploring Leonardo’s painting skills is meaningful.
11 .What does the information given in paragraph 4 imply
A .Technology plays a role in artistic creation.
B .Early artists enjoyed working together with others.
C .Leonardo’s excellent techniques had been passed on.
D .Rembrandt’s painting styles have shaped the modern art.

Lego has said that its braille bricks (盲文积木), which are loved by schools and services helping visually impaired (视觉受损的) kids, can now be bought by the
public. This has caused many to think about the improvements in toys and games.
Making toys and games covers many different things. Kids have various needs
试卷第 8 页,共 15 页
when it comes to play, especially those with physical challenges and learning
differences. Good toy and game design should avoid trying to remedy children’s play by removing their mistakes at play and requiring them to play in a standard way. It
should focus instead on how toys and games can better meet the play interests of a wide range of children.
However, traditional toys and games made for special play needs are often
expensive. Toys with small parts or operating systems are often inaccessible (不可使用的) to children with disabilities. A design that supports equal play, where
accessibility is built in as a standard, rather than an added feature, may offer useful inspiration. New technologies bring new possibilities. For example, researchers at Lodz University of Technology tested a way to make games more interactive (互动的) for visually impaired children. They used sounds to help these children
understand shapes and colors in the game.
Another example is the artificial intelligence (AI) Barbie dolls. The Barbie
movie’s success has made the Barbie dolls popular again. An AI Barbie could talk
and have more advanced conversations with children, which would be a fun and
creative experience. Children prefer to stay with it. When kids play with an AI Barbie, it can make them aware of, understand and share their feelings, even if they have
trouble speaking or seeing.
Improving the accessibility of children’s toys and games is important, though
the task is anything but easy. The digital game industry has been working on setting some basic rules. These rules will help more children with different needs to play and enjoy toys and games.
12 .What does the underlined word “remedy” in paragraph 2 probably mean
A .Share. B .Replace.
C .Compare. D .Correct.
13 .What does the example of sound-based toys aim to explain
A .Small parts are necessary for equal play.
B .Kids with disabilities prefer simpler toys.
试卷第 9 页,共 15 页
C .Creative design helps meet special play needs.
D .Interactive toys make a challenging experience.
14 .What is an important feature of an AI Barbie
A .It inspires a sense of achievement.
B .It helps kids study in a relaxing way.
C .It supports kids’ emotional expression.
D .It recognizes common behavior problems.
15 .What is the author’s attitude towards the future development of toys and games
A .Worried. B .Hopeful.
C .Doubtful. D .Surprised.

The fight-or-flight response is present in every one of us. First described by
American physiologist (生理学家) Walter B. Cannon, the term means a group of
physiological changes in response to possible fear, stress, danger, or pain. 16
It makes sense that we react (反应) to dangers by either fighting or running
away. Think about early humans who lived outdoors. 17 The fight-or-flight
response was their great way of dealing with different types of dangers. If a man were to be attacked by a lion, his breathing and heartbeat would increase under the
influence of the response. Then his legs and arms would have more oxygen, allowing a quick fight or escape.
Many of the dangers people meet nowadays are not physical. Plenty of things
that cause worry or stress do not require running away or fighting. 18 This
leads to unwelcome results. For example, your heartbeat and breathing increase due to nervousness when you are giving a speech in front of many people. And your body is ready to fight or run. But this is not really proper in the situation.
19 Besides accepting the normal response, one way is to take slow, deep
试卷第 10 页,共 15 页
breaths in the face of challenging situations. Research shows this calms the
heightened fight-or-flight response. Another method is to do light exercise to reduce your stress and anxiety.
The fight-or-flight response keeps us safe from possible dangers. Despite the
clear benefits of having such a response, many people have trouble with an overactive fight-or-flight response. 20 By understanding why we have this response and how to manage it, we can move towards improving our overall well-being.
A .So ancient people preferred to live in groups.
B .It makes us more aware of what is around us.
C .As a result, they may suffer mentally or physically.
D .In other words, it’s our body’s natural stress reaction.
E .However, our body still responds to them in this way.
F .They were much more likely to face risks from nature.
G .Luckily, we can take helpful steps to lessen the effect.

It was a rainy afternoon in April. I was looking through the attic (阁楼) for
Grandma’ s old albums when my hand touched a dusty violin box hidden behind
winter jackets. When I opened it, the violin brought back memories of nights when Dad used to play soft songs for me after work. Now, the violin’s strings hung loose, and its once-shiny wood looked old after years of being unused.
Downstairs, Dad’s key turned in the lock right at 6:15 pm. His work boots left dirty marks on the doormat. I saw him rubbing (揉) his right hand — he’ d hurt it last winter when he was at work. He looked up at the attic stairs. “Did you find anything cool up there ” he asked, his rough fingers tapping out a tune (旋律) on the kitchen table. “Dad, it’s nothing important really, just some old stuff up there!” I said.
Dad stopped going for his music scholarship when Mom got really sick. He
went from playing in concerts to working in a factory. Every birthday, he’d say,
“Maybe next year,” but then he’d quietly add, “after we pay the hospital bills.” It hit me that his dream wasn’t gone, but just silenced.
试卷第 14 页,共 15 页
My mind raced with a flood of thoughts. Here was this violin, once a symbol of Dad’s passion and talent, now gathering dust in the attic. And here was Dad, his own dream of music buried beneath the weight of family responsibilities, his hand still
aching from the injury that had kept him away from his true passion.
A wave of determination washed over me. I couldn’t change the past, but I
could do something about the present. I could fix up this violin, not just as a physical restoration (修复), but as a symbol of hope and a bridge to reconnect Dad with his
forgotten dreams.
注意:1.续写词数应为 150 个左右;

Dear students,
As AI tools become increasingly prevalent, we must address their overuse in academic
work. While convenient, excessive reliance undermines critical thinking and independent learning.
Use AI as a supplement, not a substitute. First, develop your own ideas and solutions. Then employ AI for reference or formatting assistance. This approach ensures genuine understanding
while making good use of technological advantages.
Let’s commit to becoming masters of technology, not its dependents. Embrace AI responsibly to enhance true academic growth.

Paragraph 1: By summer, I decided to work as an apprentice (学徒) at Mr. Kowalski’s
music store. It was not long before Mr. Kowalski learned about my real purpose. I explained that I was here to fix Dad’s old violin, a symbol of his abandoned music dream. Deeply moved, he
patted my shoulder and said, “This is the most meaningful apprenticeship I’ve ever seen.” He then became my strict but patient teacher, patiently guiding me to select materials, use tools, and focus on details. After weeks of hard practice, I finally restored the violin to its former glory, ready to be given as a gift to Dad on his 50th birthday.
Paragraph 2: On Dad’s 50th birthday, I handed him a large, shiny wooden box. He froze,
staring at the familiar grain it was his old music case, the one he’d abandoned when Mom fell ill. Tears blurred his eyes as he whispered, “It’s... my violin. I thought it was gone forever.” His
rough fingers gently following the violin’s shape. I held his rough hand and said softly, “Dad,
your dream wasn’t forgotten. I just helped it find its way back.” With a shaking voice, he lifted the violin and played the gentle tune he’d played for me as a child. The room filled with warm, sweet music, and all I felt was gratitude, pride, and hope.
