Fire Safety Policy: Keep Your Places Safe
Anyone in charge of a building should make sure that a fire safety policy is written and performed.
What is a fire safety policy
A fire safety policy is a written paper that describes how fire dangers in your buildings will be managed and how you’ll protect people from fire if one breaks out.
By law, employers (雇主) and people in charge of business and other buildings must take steps to reduce the risks caused by fire. A fire safety policy is a simple way to make sure that you have all of this information recorded in one place. The following are some measures to prevent
fires included in the fire safety policy.
Enough fire escape routes (逃生路线) and ways of escape, allowing people to find their way out of the building safely
Methods of giving warning in case of fire, such as a fire alarm system and smoke detectors that are tested regularly
Clear fire safety signs and notices, showing the location of fire exits and firefighting equipment
Suitable fire extinguishers (灭火器), making sure that the right type of extinguisher is fixed
Suitable emergency lighting, in case escape happens in the dark
Looking to learn more
As an employer, it’s important that all your workers are fully trained in fire safety measures so they know what to do in case of emergency. A range of online fire safety courses are offered,

C .It makes it easy to deal with fire dangers. D .It reminds workers of possible fire dangers.
22 .What are employers expected to do
A .Plan fire escape routes. B .Improve the working conditions.
C .Provide flashlights to their workers. D .Have their workers trained in fire safety.
23 .What is the author’s purpose in writing the text

B .To present the latest firefighting equipment.
C .To introduce how to write a fire safety policy.
D .To stress the importance of having a fire safety policy.

The bystander effect (旁观者效应) is a social psychological theory which takes place when the presence of others discourages an individual from taking steps in a troubling situation, such as
a car accident, a crime or other wrongdoings. The greater the number of bystanders, the less likely it is that any one of them will provide help for a person in need. People tend to act in an
emergency when there are few or no other people present.
About six decades ago, researchers connected the bystander effect with two factors: the
diffusion of responsibility and social influence. The former means the more bystanders there are, the less personal responsibility individuals will feel to take action. Social influence means that
individuals observe the behavior of those around them to decide how to respond.
Under the bystander effect, those left without aid may feel disconnected, experience
increased pain and decreased self-worth, as well as suffer stress-related aftereffects. Besides, trust issues may come up, making it hard to build relationships, causing these people to pull away
socially for fear of being ignored.
One way to address the bystander effect is to behave as if one is the first or only person to see a problem. Often, when one person makes a move, even if just to shout “Hey, what’s going on ”, others may be encouraged to help people in trouble as well. That is to say, an active
bystander is most effective when they assume that they themselves are the only person taking charge.
It is also important for individuals to develop moral virtues. Try to see the situation from the viewpoint of the victims (受害者). Worry less about the consequences (后果) of giving a
helping hand and think more about the example you are setting for future generations. If you are the affected person, pick out one person in the crowd and make eye contact. People’ s natural
drive to be kind and helpful may make it hard for them to reject your request for help.
24 .How does the author mainly develop the first paragraph
A .By giving a definition.
B .By providing an example.
C .By making comparisons.
D .By listing numbers.
25 .What does the underlined word “diffusion” in Paragraph 2 mean
A .Absence. B .Difference.
C .Spread. D .Increase.
26 .What is Paragraph 3 mainly about

Three children in every classroom are reported to have mental health condition. Half of
these are behavioral disorders, while one third are emotional disorders such as stress and anxiety, which often become obvious through self-harm.
There was a surprising 52 percent jump in hospital admissions for children and young
people who had harmed themselves between 2009 and 2015. Schools and teachers have
continuously reported the problem since 2009. Last year, over half the teachers reported that more of their students experienced mental health problems than in the past.
But teachers also continuously report how ill-equipped they feel to meet students’ mental health needs, and often mention lack of training and support from the National Health Service.
Part of the reason for the increased pressure on schools is that there are now fewer ‘early
intervention (干预)’ and low-level mental health services based in the community. Cuts to local authority budgets (预算) since 2010 have resulted in a dramatic reduction of these services,
despite strong proof of their effectiveness in preventing problems happening again. The only way to break the pressures on both mental health services and schools is to put more money in early
intervention services inside schools.
There are strong arguments for why schools are best places to provide mental health
services. Schools see young people more than any other service, which gives them a unique ability to get to hard-to-reach children and to build meaningful relationships with them over time. Recent studies have shown that children and young people largely prefer to see an adviser in school rather
than in an outside environment. Young people have reported that for low-level conditions such as stress and anxiety, a hospital setting can sometimes be frightening.
There are already examples of creative schools which connect mental health with school courses. This will, though, require a huge cultural change. Politicians and school leaders must be brave enough to change schools into providers of health as well as education services.
28 .Why does the author list a series of figures in the first two paragraphs
A .To require more school equipment.
B .To compare the rates of emotion disorders.
C .To show the tendency of behavioral disorders.
D .To stress the seriousness of school mental health.
29 .What has contributed to a drop in community mental health services
A .Ineffective prevention measures. B .Government’s Budget reduction.
C .Students’ better mental health. D .Increased pressure from teachers.
30 .Why are schools ideal places for children’s mental health care
A .Children receive the best service in school.
B .Schools are similar to hospitals in reducing anxiety.
C .Schools are perfect for children to build relationships.
D .Children are more comfortable seeking advice at school.
31 .What is the best title of this passage

In the past years the popularity of rock climbing has greatly increased, and so has the
number of injuries. It has been estimated that rock climbing is now enjoyed by more than 9
million people in the US each year. Study findings revealed a 65 percent increase in the number of patients that were treated in US emergency departments for rock climbing-related injuries between 2001 and 2021.
The study, published in the online issue of the American Journal of Preventive Medicine, found that about 40,000 patients were treated in US emergency departments for rock
climbing-related injuries between 2001 and 2021. The most common types of rock
climbing-related injuries were fractures (骨折) and sprains (扭伤). The ankle was the most
common body part to be injured (40 percent). Climbers in the study ranged in age from 2 to 74, with an average age of 26. The study also found that women took up a quarter of the injuries.
Falls were the primary reason for injury with over three-quarters ofthe injuries occurring as the result of a fall. The severity of fall-related injuries had a lot to do with the height of the fall.
Patients who were injured after falling from a height over 20 feet were 10 times more likely to be treated than patients who were injured falling from 20 feet or lower.
“We found that the climbers who fell from heights higher than 20 feet took up 70 percent of the patients treated for a rock climbing-related injury,” explained the study author Lara McKenzie, PhD, director at the Center for Injury Research and Policy at Nationwide Hospital. “This trend,
combined with the fact that rock climbers have a higher hospitalization rate than other sports and recreational injuries, demonstrates the need to increase injury prevention efforts for climbers.”
32 .Which body part is most likely to get injured for a climber?
A .The arm. B .The ankle. C .The knee. D .The hand.
33 .How many women climbers in America got injured while climbing a rock between 2001 and 2021
A .About 40, 000. B .About 30, 000.
C .About 20, 000. D .About 10, 000.
34 .The severity of climbers’ fall-related injures is mainly related to .
A .the height of the fall B .the climber’s age
C .the climber’s health conditions D .the climber’s climbing experience
35 .The underlined word “demonstrates” in the last paragraph can be replaced by “ ”.
A .demands B .prevents C .proves D .describes

First aid refers to the initial medical attention given immediately after an injury or an
accident. 36 They think it’s a job exclusive to medical professionals. In fact, it’s a life skill we all should try to learn.
According to The Guardian, over 150,000 people get critically injured or die yearly because of people’s lack of first aid knowledge. That’s a large number considering we live in the modern
age. 37 . We can reduce these life-threatening situations by learning the prompt care needed in such situations. Thus, more people must know what to do in case of accidents or medical emergencies.
Whether we like it or not, accidents and emergencies happen at any time. 38 . In the USA alone, over six million people are involved in traffic accidents each year. In fact, it’s the
leading cause of death for people between the ages of 1 and 54. That said, no one can predict
when or where disaster may strike. These accidents can happen at home, at work, or while in
transit. That’s why basic first aid skills like CPR, disinfecting (消毒) wounds, and learning to stop bleeding can go a long way.
39 It’s vital to prevent injuries from worsening until full medical help arrives. For instance, when a person experiences cardiac arrest, they only have 3 to 4 minutes before the brain lacks oxygen. What you do in these minutes will impact the patient’s condition. Calling for an
ambulance is, of course, your priority. 40
A .Developed countries witness a greater death rate
B .But it might encounter traffic jams during rush hours
C .The bad news is that not many people know the importance of first aid
D .Heart attacks and choking endanger thousands of lives on a yearly basis
E .The first few minutes is the most critical in the case of a medical emergency
F .That’s why it’s a part of our reality that we must always prepare ourselves for
G .However, if you can employ the basic first aid skills, it can relieve the damage

getting home. However, just as he arrived there, a thunderous noise shattered the peaceful silence of the evening. He looked up just in time to see a train running into a truck, sending debris flying in all directions.
It was an accident that he had never witnessed before. Brandon was frozen in shock. It was a messy scene as people ran from the dangerous site, hidden behind flames and thick smoke. In an instant, everything around him seemed to be in chaos. People were screaming and cracks filled the air with the explosive force. “Get away from that train! Don’t go near it!” warned the train

根据第一段中“The bystander effect (旁观者效应) is a social psychological
theory which takes place when the presence of others discourages an individual from taking steps
in a troubling situation, such as a car accident, a crime or other wrongdoings. 故选 A 项。
根据画线词的下文对“the diffusion of responsibility” 的解释“The former means the more bystanders there are, the less personal responsibility individuals will feel to take action.
Under the bystander effect, those left without aid may feel
disconnected, experience increased pain and decreased self-worth, as well as suffer stress-related
aftereffects. Besides, trust issues may come up, making it hard to build relationships, causing these people to pull away socially for fear of being ignored.
根据最后一段中“Try to see the situation from the viewpoint of the victims (受害者). (试着从受害者的角度看问题)”可知,作者建议通过换位思考来缓解旁观者效应。故选D 项。

【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章指出学校中儿童心理健康问题严峻,社区相关服务因预算削减而减少,而学校是提供心理健康服务的理想场所,呼吁将学校转变为能助力学生心理健康的地方。
28 .推理判断题。根据第一段“Three children in every classroom are reported to have mental
health condition. Half of these are behavioral disorders, while one third are emotional disorders
such as stress and anxiety, which often become obvious through self-harm.
hospital admissions for children and young people who had harmed themselves between 2009 and 2015.
“Last year, over half the teachers reported that more of their students experienced mental health
problems than in the past.
根据第三段中“Cuts to local authority budgets (预算) since 2010 have resulted in a dramatic reduction of these services, despite strong proof of their effectiveness in preventing problems happening again. (自2010 年以来,地方政府预算的削减导致了这些服务的大幅减少,尽管有强有力的证据表明这些服务在防止问题再次发生方面是有效的)”可知,政府削减预算导致社区心理健康服务减少。故选 B 项。
答案第 5 页,共 14 页
30 .细节理解题。根据第四段中“Recent studies have shown that children and young people
largely prefer to see an adviser in school rather than in an outside environment. Young people
have reported that for low-level conditions such as stress and anxiety, a hospital setting can
sometimes be frightening.
The only way to break the pressures on both
mental health services and schools is to put more money in early intervention services inside
schools.

根据第二段中“The most common types of rock climbing-related injuries were fractures (骨折) and sprains (扭伤). The ankle was the most common body part to be injured (40 percent).(最常见的攀岩相关损伤类型是骨折和扭伤。脚踝是最常受伤的身体部位(40%))”可知,脚踝是攀登者最常受伤的身体部位,故选 B。
33.细节理解题。根据第二段中“The study, published in the online issue of the American Journal of Preventive Medicine, found that about 40,000 patients were treated in US emergency
departments for rock climbing-related injuries between 2001 and 2021.(这项发表在《美国预防医学杂志》网络版上的研究发现,2001 年至 2021 年期间,约有 4 万名患者在美国急诊科接受了攀岩相关伤害的治疗)”和“The study also found that women took up a quarter of the
The severity offall-related injuries had a lot to do with the
height of the fall. Patients who were injured after falling from a height over 20 feet were 10 times more likely to be treated than patients who were injured falling from 20 feet or lower.(与坠落有关的伤害的严重程度与坠落的高度有很大关系。
根据画线词上文“This trend, combined with the fact that rock climbers have a higher hospitalization rate than other sports and recreational injuries(这一趋势,再加上攀岩者比其他运动和娱乐伤害有更高的住院率)”以及后文“the need to increase injury prevention efforts for climbers(有必要加强对攀登者的伤害预防工作)”可知,攀岩者比其他体育运动的人有较高的住院率,这表明需要展开对攀登者的伤害预防工作。
