From the food ingredients, the placing on the plate to the background music and much more, chefs and companies in the UK are planning to change our dining experiences, and the trends in dining out. Entomophagy
This is a proper term for eating insects! Numerous people realize that many of our basic food may disappear in the coming decades and insects can offer people good protein (蛋白质) to replace
animal meats, so they believe insects are a good choice. It hasn’t quite happened yet because we all think insects are extremely unpleasant. But, many chefs are already experimenting in the field. A number of top chefs in London are using their cooking creativity to turn something unpleasant into something delicious. Tech at the Table
Digital products will probably become a common part of our food and drink experiences in the
near future. We’re going to see things like tablets and computer screens that can tell stories around the food we are eating. We’ll be able to change the color of plates digitally, because we know that
试卷第 3 页,共 12 页
colors can change the taste of food or make it look better. The Experimental Meal
The experimental meal is liked by a growing number of people interested in finding new connections between their senses. They think that food is not just what goes into the mouth, but a whole experience. They’re seeing dining — music, lighting, staff uniforms, temperature changes — as a whole meal. They are trying to put different things together instead of having dinner and then going to the theatre, why not bring the two together The same goes for cinema and music.

C.The possibility of main food disappearing. D.The performance of some chefs’ experiments.

Over a year ago, some of my colleagues and I started a tradition in which we try out
different restaurants in the Austin area. This quickly became a highlight worth looking forward to. Each outing has been filled with great food, engaging conversations, and lively debates. But no
matter what the evening’s discussion is, one thing is a constant: however full we feel after the main course, we always prefer to order dessert.
A team of researchers led by Marielle Minère and Henning Fenselau, along with
colleagues, set out to investigate why this happens. Their findings revealed a surprising brain mechanism at play, one that helps explain why sugar cravings continue even when we are no longer hungry.
Central to their discovery are POMC neurons(神经元), a group of cells that have long been known to regulate appetite and hunger. Traditionally, POMC neurons are believed to work by
promoting fullness. But Minère and colleagues discovered something unexpected, which is that not all POMC neurons function this way. Instead of reducing appetite, some POMC neurons
试卷第 4 页,共 12 页
actually increase it, but only for sugar! In other words, while the body signals that it has had
enough food, the brain at the same time activates a pathway that specifically encourages sugar consumption.
To test this, the scientists used advanced imaging techniques to watch these neurons in action as mice encountered different foods. When researchers blocked the actions of these
neurons, mice showed less interest in sugary foods after meals. Interestingly, this effect was specific to sugar and had no impact on the consumption of fatty foods.
Of course, this study also has wider applications beyond just explaining our after-dinner excess (过量). This discovery could lead to useful treatments for overeating, especially when it comes to sugar.
21 .What does the underlined word “cravings” in paragraph 2 refer to
A .A routine meal schedule. B .A dislike for certain flavors.
C .A sudden loss of appetite. D .A strong desire for specific foods.
22 .What is the key discovery about POMC neurons
A .They regulate hunger for more foods.
B .They are responsible for burning calories.
C .Some of them encourage sugar appetite.
D .Some of them influence sleep pattern.
23 .What happened when POMC neurons were blocked in mice
A .Mice lost their appetite entirely. B .Mice consumed more fatty foods.
C .Sugary foods were less attractive. D .More vegetables were preferred.
24 .What is the text likely to discuss next
A .Possible effects of sugar on mood. B .New ways to control sugar intake.
C .Potential harms of sugar consumption. D .Practical strategies to boost appetite.

Many people who want to lose weight often choose to go on a diet. Shops have noticed this and are filling their shelves with diet products such as diet milkshakes, snack bars and even diet
pills. However, such popular diets are often found to be very unhealthy.
Most of these popular diets work by cutting out a certain nutrient (营养物) from your food
试卷第 5 页,共 12 页
intake (摄入量). However, by cutting a particular food group out of your diet, your body will be
short of a certain nutrient that it needs, which could leave you feeling weak, tired or even bad-tempered. Furthermore, these diets are often unsuccessful in the long run.
Generally, one of the effective ways to lose weight is to cut down on calories (卡路里). The recommended calorie intake for an adult male is 2,500 each day. If a man takes in more than
2,500calories each day, then he is likely to gain weight. However, if he eats less, then he is likely to lose weight.
More importantly, anyone who is going on a diet should keep a healthy balanced diet
containing foods from all food groups. Nutrients such as proteins, fats, vitamins and minerals all play an important role in staying healthy, which is why they all should be included in your meals. Sometimes, you can eat some healthy snacks but don't eat too much. So, next time your friends
tell you that they are going on a diet, let them know that eating a healthy balanced diet is a better choice.
25 .What is the author’s opinion about the popular diets in Paragraph 1

A .Don't eat snacks. B .Avoid eating any meat or fats.
C .Keep a healthy balanced diet. D .Stop losing weight immediately.

A .Travel. B .Health. C .Sport. D .Education.

With the development of technology, people's eating habits have undergone significant
changes, 33 For example, mobile apps now help users track their daily calorie intake and suggest balanced meals.
However, technology also brings challenges. 34 Many people rely on food delivery services, which often offer unhealthy options. Nutritionists warn that excessive consumption of processed foods can lead to health issues.
To address these problems, some companies are innovating. 35 A notable example is the use of AI to create personalized diet plans based on individual health data.
Traditional diets should not be ignored. 36 Mediterranean diets, rich in olive oil and fish, are still considered one of the healthiest in the world.
In conclusion, balancing technology and tradition is key. 37 By combining modem tools with time-tested eating habits, we can achieve better health outcomes.

M: Hello, everyone. I’ve come to talk to you today about a really successful product: coffee!
As some stories say, coffee was first consumed in Ethiopia, in Africa, dating back to the fifteenth century. However, a popular tale identifies the ninth century as when coffee was
originally consumed as a drink. By the seventeenth century, it was enjoyed worldwide.
The tale goes that an Ethiopian farmer, Kaldi, spotted that his goats became energetic and didn’t sleep once they’d consumed the red, coffee beans. Then he took some of the beans with
him. In those days, there was no professional chefs, so instead he gave them to a local leader, who initially rejected them and threw them onto a fire. The smell of the roasting beans changed his
mind, leading him to create a tasty hot drink.
Coffee quickly spread to Yemen in southern Arabia. Not only was it enjoyed in people’s homes, but also in the world’s earliest coffee shops.
As the popularity grew in Europe, coffee shops appeared there too and became centers of social activity. Later, the British took coffee to North America.
