During space missions, astronauts can experience a loss of some of the inner structural
support in their bones. For trips in space lasting at least six months, that loss is equal to about 20 years of aging. Luckily, a new study finds a year back on Earth rebuilds half of the strength lost in the affected bone.
Exercise scientist Leigh Gabel was part of a team that tracked 17 astronauts, each of whom had spent four to seven months in space. The team measured the 3-D structure of bone. They
focused on the structure of the tibia (胫骨) and the lower-arm bone. The researchers took images of the bones 3 times—before spaceflight and again six months and one year later when the
试卷第 3 页,共 14 页
astronaut s returned home from space. From these pictures, Gabel’s team calculated an astronaut’s bone strength and density (密度) at each of those times.
What did they find through comparison of the pictures Astronauts in space for less than six months regained their preflight bone strength after a year back on Earth. But those who stayed in space longer suffered permanent hone loss in their tibias. That loss was equal to a decade of aging. The lower-arm bones showed almost no loss. That was likely because these aren’t weight-bearing hones on Earth, Gabel explains. In fact, those arms can get a bigger workout in space than on
Earth as astronauts use them to move around their craft by pushing off handles and doors.
“Increasing weight-lifting exercises in space could help alleviate (缓解) bone loss in the legs,” says Steven Boyd, also in exercise scientist.
“With longer spaceflight, we can expect bigger bone loss — and probably a bigger problem with recovery,” says physiologist Laurence Vico. “Space agencies should also consider other bone health measures, such as nutrition, to reduce bone loss and increase bone formation.”
21 .Why did Gabel’s team take pictures at different times
A .To offer evidence for their predictions.
B .To show their respect for the astronauts.
C .To compare the changes in the astronauts’ bones.
D .To find out the proper length of staying in space for astronauts.
22 .Which of the following may Gabel agree with
A .A spaceflight in less than half a year does no harm to astronauts.
B .Astronauts coming back from a spaceflight look much older.
C .Astronauts can avoid bone loss through doing enough exercise.
D .There is almost no difference in the astronauts’ lower-arm bones.
23 .What can we conclude from this text
A .People on Earth never suffer bone loss.
B .The finding of the new study is good news for astronauts.
C .The 17 astronauts knew the bone loss before their spaceflights.
D .Astronauts can regain their bone strength as soon as they return to Earth.

Greenland is the world’s largest island and a self-governed territory of Denmark. About
57,000 people live there, mainly along its coasts. Most of Greenland lies north of the Arctic Circle, under thick sheets of ice. The island plays a large part in the weather experienced by billions of people every day and in climate changes around the planet, experts say.
Greenland has huge amounts of oil and natural gas below the ice and valuable elements
known as rare earth minerals needed in communication technologies, including phones. Most of these resources are trapped under Greenland’s ice. However, warming temperatures have
increased melting on the island. As more ice melts, some of these resources may become easier to reach. Other countries are becoming interested in Greenland because China is currently the
supplier of over half of the world's rare earth minerals.
From 1992 to 2020, Greenland lost an average of 169 billion metric tons of ice each year, with losses reaching 444 billion metric tons in 2019. A well-known expert said that melting from Greenland will be a central issue through the 21st century. That is because melting ice adds to
rising sea levels. He noted that the amount of melting will likely increase in the future.
Greenland also serves as the engine for an important ocean current that influences Earth’s climate in many ways, including storm activity. The current is called the Atlantic Meridional
Overturning Circulation, or AMOC. The current is slowing down because more fresh water from Greenland's melting ice is entering the ocean. A shutdown of the current could lead to long-term freezes in Europe and parts of North America.
As more ice melts, Greenland is also changing colour from the white ofice to the blue and green of water and land. These darker colours hold more heat from the sun and can increase the speed of warming.
Greenland lies in between northern Canada, northern Europe, and Russia. That area may become more valuable to countries if melting in the Arctic Ocean continues to increase and more ships pass through the area.
24 .What do we know about Greenland
A .It is completely located within the Arctic Circle.
B .It is managed by a single country.
C .It is the second largest island covered by ice in the world.
D .It is an uninhabited island with few human footprints.
试卷第 5 页,共 14 页
25 .What does Paragraph 2 mainly talk about
A .The distribution of rare earth minerals worldwide.
B .Difficulties in mineral development on Greenland.
C .Rich mineral resources on Greenland.
D .The largest supplier of rare earth minerals.
26 .Which can be concluded from the text
A .Greenland lost about 444 billion metric tons of ice each year.
B .AMOC is an unimportant member of the ocean current system.
C .The melting of ice in Greenland will slow down global warming.
D .Greenland may be very important in future ocean transportation.
27 .Where is the text probably taken from
A .A tourist guidebook. B .A science magazine.
C .A history textbook. D .An official report.

Can science fiction tell us about the future Setting aside aliens and spaceships, much
contemporary science fiction is concerned with themes such as the impact of artificial intelligence, the danger of ecological collapse and the misuse of corporate power. In all these cases, science
fiction writers are taking advantage of the freedom that this type of writing gives them to think about ongoing concerns and picture what they might lead to in the future, coming to surprising and thought-provoking conclusions.
All of those do have some predictive value. It means science fiction can play a useful role as a way to predict technological, social and political trends — but in the near term, not the distant future in which it is often set. This is the first of three ways in which science fiction can give us a glimpse of the future.
The second is that it can help broaden the mind when assessing future scenarios (设想) for planning purposes, both in government and in business. France’s Defence Innovation Agency is setting up a “red team” of sci-fi writers to propose scenarios that might not have occurred to
military planners. Arup, an engineering firm, commissioned Tim Maughan, a science-fiction
writer, to create four scenarios of what everyday life might look like as a result of climate change.
试卷第 6 页,共 14 页
Tech giants including Google, Microsoft and Apple have also employed sci-fi writers as consultants, using a process sometimes called “design fiction.”
And then the third one is more direct: by inspiring people in the tech industry who want to make these fictions a reality. The creation of the mobile phone at Motorola was motivated by the handheld wireless communicators from Star Trek, and Amazon’s Alexa voice-assistant by the
talking computer on the Enterprise. The Kindle was inspired by an electronic-book device in Neal Stephenson’s novel The Diamond Age, and an entire industry is trying to bring to life the virtual world he described in Snow Crash. The future technology leaders are certainly reading science
fiction today.
28 .What does the author think of science fiction
A .It focuses mainly on aliens and spaceships.
B .It explores current issues to imagine the future.
C .It addresses the contemporary existing problems.
D .It aims to predict technological progress in the future.
29 .Why do the government and the business hire sci-fi writers
A .To give support to their creations.
B .To better understand science fiction.
C .To benefit from their expansive imagination.
D .To enhance their influence and commercial value.
30 .How does the last paragraph show the impact of science fiction
A .By listing main points. B .By giving examples.
C .By analyzing causes. D .By explaining a concept.
31 .What is the main idea about the text
A .Why is science fiction gaining popularity
B .Science fiction provides insights into the future.
C .How does science fiction broaden people’s vision
D .Science fiction serves as an inspiration for inventions.
D
We don’t know how different our life will be in the future. We can only try to imagine it.
试卷第 7 页,共 14 页
At first we think about human relationship. In the year 2050, we will use computers almost every day. We will be making new friends through the Internet - even our husbands or wives will be met in this way. It will be much faster and easier for us. On the other hand, our relationships
with people won’t be as important as they are today - we will feel a little lonely.
Computers will also help us in many other activities in 2050. For example, they will be
used by the children at school to make their learning easier. In addition, there will be much more other machines which will play a similar role as computers, like robots which will do the
housework for us.
Spending holidays will also be completely different. Traveling to other planets or to the moon will be available for everyone. Means of transport will, of course, change, too. We will be using solar-powered cars, which will be much more environmentally friendly.
We could expect that the faster technological progress would lead to a more polluted
environment. But it isn’t true. We will pay more attention to protecting the environment. And,
scientists will probably find cures for many dangerous diseases, like cancer or AIDS. Therefore, our surroundings as well as health will be in a better condition.
Although we can’t predict the exact changes which will be made in the world, we often
think about them. We worry about our future; we have expectations, hopes as well as fears. But I think we should be rather confident about our future. We should be happy and believe good things will happen.
32 .Why will people probably feel a little lonely in 2050
A .Because there will be less face-to-face communication.
B .Because the number of people will become much smaller.
C .Because people won’t like making friends with each other.
D .Because people won’t communicate with each other much often.
33 .The third paragraph mainly tells us .
A .how people will use robots to do the housework
B .that computers will do all the things for human beings
C .that machines like computers and robots will help people a lot
D .how people will use computers to communicate with each other
34 .Which of the following will happen in 2050 according to the text
试卷第 8 页,共 14 页
A .Environment will be more polluted with cars.
B .It won’t be difficult for people to travel to other planets.
C .The way of spending holidays will be the same as that of today.
D .The relationship between people will be more important than that of today.
35 .What does the text mainly talk about
A .What our life will be like in the year 2050.
B .What high technology will appear in the year 2050.
C .How people will communicate in the year 2050.
D .How people will travel and spend their holidays in the year 2050.

room was filled with star charts in models of spacecraft. Nova also loved to repair machines.
Always curious about how things worked, she would take apart gadgets (小器具) and put them back together. She even built her own telescope to look up at the night sky. Her parents
encouraged her curiosity, gifting her a comprehensive engineering kit on her 10th birthday. Nova spent countless hours mastering the kit, learning everything from basic circuitry (电路) to
complex mechanical systems.
One day, she signed up for the “Little Astronaut Simulation (模拟) Competition”. The
selection process was strict, but Nova’s professional skills in mechanics helped her a lot. What’s more, during her training, Nova learned more complex skills. Fortunately, Nova succeeded. She was selected tojoin a team of simulation astronauts on a mission to explore a distant planet. Nova was excited and she brought along her toolkit just in case and hoped that her skills could
contribute to the mission.
As the spaceship flew through the galaxy, Nova admired breathtaking views of stars and
planets. She felt weightless and free, like she was flying through the universe. The crew members bonded over shared stories in the dreams, each bringing a unique skill set to the team. Nova
quickly became the go-to person for any technical issues. She believed that her toolkit and knowledge would provide invaluable service during the journey.
Later, the team encountered a problem. The simulation spaceship’s engine malfunctioned and they became trapped in space. They were running out of oxygen and supplies, and the nearest planet
was light years away. Many of them were scared and unsure of what to do.
But Nova refused to be afraid.
