Miss sending letters Try Lettrs! This new service brings back the art of letter writing by marrying it to the Internet.
Lettrs, a new site, is attempting to bring back the old-fashioned idea of letter writing by providing a space that feels a little bit like a writing desk.
Of course, there’ll be purists who say that to truly enjoy letter writing you must do it on
fancy letter paper and envelope in the mail is part ofthe fun. And if you’re into that sort of thing,
试卷第 3 页,共 13 页
go for it. But I can’t be the only one who is now so much faster at typing that writing by hand is painfully slow. Nor can I be the only one who likes to write on a whim (一时兴起) when I’m
going to be on a crowded train or airplane, both of which are situations where writing on the computer is far easier.
The site tries, pretty seriously, to approximate (接近) what it’s like to have your very own writing desk and paper to choose from(which comes in various prints and colors) as well as
corresponding (通信) types of prints and cursive writing (草写体) that come out on your screen as you write. There’s also a “desk drawer” for letters you’ve already sent, a “fridge” to post letters
publicly, a “kitchen counter” for letters you have just received, and “shoebox” to store your letters in.
And if you need inspiration there are even old-style letters that are great examples of the kind of correspondence people used to send. Lettrs is such a great idea, because you get the best parts of communicating online (typing rather than writing, the speed, no lost mail, and it’s free!) with the nice parts of a letter - the sense of sitting down to write, quietly, to one person in a
meaningful way.
Who would you write to
21 .How does Lettrs work according to the text
A .By providing real paper for letter writers.
B .By making room for people to write letters.

22 .A Lettrs user can find a newly received letter in or on a “ ”.
A .desk drawer B .fridge C .kitchen counter D .shoebox

A .To advise readers to use Lettrs. B .To tell readers how to write letters.

Life can be overwhelming (令人不知所措的), and you’re not alone if you’re struggling. 65% of adults in the United States reported feeling stressed due to current circumstances. This means two-thirds of adults are uncertain about their lives and futures.
You may wonder why everything feels so hard. Perhaps you’re comparing yourself to
others who don’t seem to be experiencing the same level of stress. However, everyone’s journey is different. Your peers may be facing challenges privately or might be in a different stage of life.
It’s best to focus on your own progress rather than comparing yourself to others.
Personal challenges also impact how hard life feels. Family issues such as problematic
relationships can lead to feelings of loneliness, shame, and jealousy (嫉妒) when you see others
with strong familial support. Interpersonal issues such as navigating a break-up or losing a loved one can also make life feel harder. Feeling socially isolated can contribute to a sense of loneliness, which can badly affect health, leading to poor sleep and other issues.
Psychological and physical pain further complicates life’s challenges. It’s essential to
acknowledge how society factors contribute to these feelings. We’re facing economic disorder,
which can be traumatic and make life feel more difficult, Licensed therapist (心理治疗师) Alegria Louise Demeestere emphasizes the importance of looking at systemic causes rather than blaming individuals.
Understanding why life feels hard is the first step. When feeling this way, it’s common to
feel angry or upset. “Your feeling is trying to tell you something,” says Demeestere. Being curious about your feeling can prevent you from taking it out on others or numbing it through addictions. Facing the feeling directly can use its energy to push you forward past difficulties.
25 .Why should we focus on our own progress
A .It is the key to success. B .It helps to reduce anxiety completely.
C .Everyone’s journey is different. D .Everyone’s demand is uneven.
26 .What can cause feelings of loneliness, shame and jealousy
A .Family matters. B .Interpersonal issues.
C .Psychological pain. D .Economic disorder.
27 .What’s the meaning of the underlined word “traumatic” in paragraph 4
A .Painful. B .Unexpected. C .Cheerful. D .Memorable.
试卷第 5 页,共 13 页
28 .What is mainly emphasized in the last paragraph
A .Living a creative life. B .Looking at systemic causes.
C .Seeking out extra support. D .Understanding why life feels hard.

I was thirteen years old. My family had moved to Southern California from North Florida a year before. Angry and stubborn, I could not adapt to this sudden change. Like so many teenagers, I struggled to escape from anything that did not agree with my picture of the world. A “good
without need of guidance” kid, I rejected any kind of offering of love.
One night, after a particularly difficult day, I stormed into my room, shut the door and got
into bed. As I lay down in the privacy of my bed, my hands slipped under my pillow. There was
an envelope. I pulled it out and on the envelope, it read, “To read when you’re alone.” Since I was alone, no one would know whether I read it or not, so I opened it. It said “Mike, I know life is hard right now, I know you are upset and I know we don’t do everything right. I also know that I love
you completely and nothing you do or say will ever change that. I am here for you and I love you — that will never change. Love, Mom.” That was the first of several “To read when you’re alone” letters.
Nowadays, I travel the world helping people. I was in Sarasota, Florida, teaching a seminar (研讨课) when, at the end of the day, a woman came up to me and shared the difficulty she was having with her son. We walked out to the beach, and I told her of my mom’s undying love and
about the “To read when you’re alone” letters. Several weeks later, I got a card that said she had written her first letter and left it for her son. That night as I went to bed, I put my hands under my pillow and remembered the relief I felt every time I got a letter. In the midst of my teen years, the letters were reminders of calm that I was loved in spite of my shortcomings. Today, when the seas of life get stormy, I know that what under my pillow is assurance of love — consistent (始终如一的) and unconditional love changes my life.

In the back of my closet is a small box that has followed me to every new address. It’s the first thing I find a place for as the moving truck pulls away. The only remaining contents in it are dozens of notes in my mother’s tidy writing. My mother, who put her business degree to use
running a small company with my father, while raising me, was always prepared and always gave me abundant love. By day she made marketing slogans and distribution strategies. By night:
bubble baths and bedtime stories. She and I had the same February birthday. Each year my parents arranged wonderful parties.
When I was 3, she learned she had advanced breast cancer and immediately began to
prepare by rescarching every available treatment. Each day, she would sit for hours at our dining table, her straight dark hair tied back, surrounded by piles of paper, studying, technical
paragraphs.
When I was 7, the materials on the dining table began to change. Wrapping (包装) paper and ribbons (丝带) took the place of her highlighted pages. Paper creased (折) under her fingers. Knots (蝴蝶结) came together with a tiny creak. She had begun making a gift box for me.
Inside, she packed presents and letters for the milestones of my life she would
miss—graduation, wedding, and every birthday until the age of 30. My mother died 10 days
before our shared birthday. That morning, when I turned 12 and she would have turned 49, I woke up early and opened the box as my mother had shown me.
