High school can be challenging for everyone. You are going through an awkward time and you may either fit in right away or feel like a complete outcast. But no matter how well you may fit in (or not), joining a club will be helpful for you now and in the future.
Joining a club is a great way to meet new friends, especially if you are new at school. Being in a club encourages you to talk to people who share the same interests with you. Even if you are the shyest person, you are sure to make friends with at least one person in the club you choose to join. From my own experience, I have made some of my best friends through after-school
activities and have had many new opportunities.
Another good thing about joining a club is that taking part in activities looks great on
college applications. Being known as outgoing is an important quality (品质); it shows that you are willing to try new things and be determined. It can also help you build skills that you might need during a college interview.
Many teens fight with staying productive. Most students go to school and then come home to spend the rest ofthe day in front ofthe TV or on their phones, but clubs help prevent this.
Teens are also easily influenced, and if they join the wrong group, they might get into trouble. Clubs are a wonderful place to spend time with good friends who can support you if you need help.
Perhaps the most important reason to join a club is the long-term benefits (益处) it provides. The classroom is not the only place to learn in a school. Meeting and talking to new people,
managing your time, and staying organized are skills you will use every day in your life.
21 .What might the underlined word “outcast” in paragraph 1 mean
A .A person who is popular. B .A person who is not smart.

A .Why should you join a club B .What club should you join
C .Should you join a second club D .How should you join a club you like

Public health data signals a genuine crisis in adolescent mental health: rising rates of
anxiety, depression, and hopelessness. But as we worry about teens who are struggling, we can’t ignore another mounting effect — the burdens that are shouldered by their friends and peers in an “always on” world.
We have studied teens and tech for over a decade. Their networks are ever-expanding, in no small part because there’s a sense that being nice means accepting fellow requests from
acquaintances and friends-of-friends. And it’s not just staying connected — it’s keeping up with what others post, too.
Social media platforms thus make it technically possible to maintain more relationships
than we are historically actually wired to track and manage. The result is an overwhelming wave of social information. It’s especially intense for adolescents whose developmental sensitivities
drive them to care deeply about what their peers are doing and thinking.
Significant stress comes with trying to be a “good friend” in the age of social media.
Friendship requires both public and behind-the-scenes support. Even before a social media post is made public, close friends can be pulled into photo selection, editing, and final examination.
Besides, they need to respond in the right way and in the right amount of time, which differs
from one relationship to another. Replying too quickly can be seen as over-eager, especially when the friendship is new or not close. But when it’sa close friend, too long a lag (延迟) can be hurtful.
试卷第 5 页,共 14 页
The qualities that are key to building or breaking friendships are actually the same as
they’ve always been: mutual (相互的) sharing of joys and sorrows, a give and take of acceptance and support, and an ability to weather and resolve conflicts. But technologies have transformed
how friendships play out. Social media increases the burdens that come along with being a good friend. Too often, these dynamics hit teens hard in ways that are ignored by adults. And that is what should be changed with the help of parents, schools and other parts of society.
25 .What makes teenagers' networks continue to expand
A .The pressure to be nice. B .The requests of their parents.
C .The need to meet more people. D .The burden of living independently.
26 .What does the author think of being a good friend in the age of social media
A .Risk-taking. B .Time-saving. C .Challenging. D .Exciting.

A .The influences of social media on teen friendship.
B .The relations between parents and their teens.
C .The conflicts between schools and parents.
D .The qualities of being a teen friend.
28 .What is the text mainly about
A .What makes teens become more sensitive to their peers' needs.
B .How social media has made teen friendships more stressful.
C .How teens nowadays gain long-standing friendships.
D .Why more teens are addicted to social media.

Ffh. Ffh. Ffh! It was not just the empty nest (鸟巢) of a pewee bird as Amy had found the last five days. Amy ran home through the woods.
“Mum!” she shouted. “I see birds. Two. In cave (洞穴). Beautiful!”
Mum smiled. Birds! Always birds! From the moment Amy woke up in the morning to the moment she closed her eyes at night, she thought only of birds.
Amy climbed straight to her attic room — her museum, she called it. Every shelf, every
spare inch of floor, was covered with nests, bird models and natural science books. The walls were

covered with pencil and crayon drawings of many different kinds of birds, all signed “Amy in the woods.”
“Are those the same birds who built the nest last year Will they return to the cave next spring ” Amy always wondered. “I will study my cave birds. I will draw them just as they are.” Amy made up her mind.
In a week, the birds were used to her. They were busy building their nest as Amy watched and drew with her pencils. Soon the dried brown nest became a soft green bed.
Amy watched as two baby birds came out. She watched as the young birds flew for the first time. She began to feel a part of this small family.
When the days grew shorter and the autumn air began to bite, Amy knew the birds would leave soon. But would they come back She had to know! In bed that night, she formed a plan.
The next day, when the mother and father birds were away from the nest, she tied something to one leg of each baby bird. A week later, the birds were gone. . .
The days grew longer again. One morning. Amy heard a bird call, “Fee-bee! Fee-bee!”
She ran to the cave. Watching the way the birds flew in and out ofthe cave, Amy knew her friends came back. But where were last year’s babies Did they return too She began to search
the woods near the cave, listening for their call.
Inside a little house, she found two birds building a nest. One wore a silver ring around its leg. Up the small river, under a bridge, she found two more nesting birds. And one wore a silver ring around its leg. Amy smiled and called, “Fee-bee! Fee-bee!”

Good friends and good physical health may be even more closely linked than previously
thought, new research has found. Researchers discovered that positive social experiences impact not only a person’s stress level and ability to cope, but also markers of physical health, according to a study published Monday in the journal Society for Personality and Social Psychology.
The study followed more than 4,000 people over three weeks as they completed check-ins every three days on their smartphones or smartwatches regarding their positive and negative
experiences with their closest social relationships, as well as assessments oftheir blood pressure, heart rate, stress and coping. Having more positive experiences in social relationships was
generally associated with better coping, lower stress and lower blood pressure, according to the study.
But having social relationships which bounce between good and bad often can be unhelpful. When there is a lot of volatility, the negative experiences seemed to have a bigger impact on a
person than the positive, said lead study author Brian Don of the University of Auckland.
Then, how to build good social relationships Adam Smiley Poswolsky, a workplace
belonging expert, suggests starting small. Text a friend that you haven’t talked to in a long time, meet one new person a month, host a dinner party, or join a class. “If you do just one thing, make a list of five people in your life that you care about, and give one of them a phone call,”
Poswolsky added.
试卷第 8 页,共 14 页
There might not be just one definition of a good friendship, but most strong relationships
share some similar qualities, he said. They tend to prioritize laughter, joy, excitement, courage,
and non-judgmental support. And good friendships are often two people helping each other
become better versions of themselves, he added. “You know someone is a true friend when they
have your back when you’re sick, when you lose your job, when you make a mistake, when you’re stressed, when you’re sad,” Poswolsky said.
33 .How was the study carried out
A .By doing regular check-ins on devices.
B .By following the participants for three days.
C .By interviewing the closest friends of participants.
D .By monitoring the health conditions of participants.
34 .What does the underlined word “volatility” in paragraph 3 mean
A .Pressure. B .Association. C .Changeability. D .Certainty.
35 .Which statement will Poswolsky probably agree with
A .Friendship is about being always available.
B .Friendship is based on shared interests and hobbies.
C .Friendship begins with tiny moments of connection.
D .Friendship means always having positive interactions.
36 .Where is the passage most likely to have been taken from
A .A questionnaire survey. B .A personal diary.
C .A biology textbook. D .A news report.

tell you how to do it.
Making friends is a skill. Like most skills, it improves practice. If you want to meet people and make friends you must be to take action. You must first go to places where
there are people. You won’t make friends at home alone. Join a club or group, for talking with those who have the same experience as you is easier, and them in some activities.
Many people are when talking to strangers. After all, meeting strangers means facing the unknown, and it’s human nature to a bit uncomfortable about the unknown.
Most of our fears about dealing with strange people from doubts about ourselves. We imagine other people are judging us, thinking us too tall or too short, too this or too
that. , don’t forget that they must be feeling the same way. Try to accept yourself you are, and try to put the other person at ease. You’ll feel more comfortable.
Try to act self-confidently you don’t feel that way when you enter a room full of
strangers, such as a new classroom, walk straight, look at other people and smile. If you see someone you’d like to , say something. Don’t wait for the other people to start a
conversation.
Just meeting someone doesn’t mean that you will make friends with that person. Friendship is on mutual (相互的) liking and “give and take”. It takes time and effort to develop. And there are things that keep a new friendship from growing.

Last weekend, my father and I had a heated argument that left both of us deeply hurt. It all began when I gathered the courage to tell him my decision to quit the school basketball team. I
found it hard to deal with lots of schoolwork, endless tasks, and the physically-demanding daily training sessions. The pressure was too heavy, and I felt like I was about to break down.
However, my father couldn’t see things from my point of view. In his eyes, the basketball team was a golden opportunity for me to build my strength, character, and teamwork skills. He thought I was being a quitter, giving up easily just because of a little hardship.
Our voices rose higher and higher as we tried to defend our own views. Words that were better left unsaid were thrown back and forth. In the heat of the moment, I even accused him of not caring about my feelings. In the end, I lost my temper, stormed out of the house, and shut the door behind me heavily, leaving my father standing there in a state of shock.
That night, I turned in my bed, the argument replaying in my mind like a broken record. I stared at the ceiling, the moonlight streaming in through the curtains, casting a dim (昏暗的) light

in the room. I kept thinking about the disappointed look on my father’s face. I knew he had high hopes for me, always dreaming that I could achieve great things. But at that moment, I just
couldn’t take the pressure anymore. I felt so confused and sad, not knowing how to bridge the gap that had suddenly opened between us. I regretted my hasty (草率的) words and wondered if our relationship could ever be the same again.

should try to focus on just one person in the audience to ease the nerves. My teacher, Mr. brown, recommended trying out street speeches to gain more confidence. 1 of my friends advised
watching related videos to learn tips and to become more adaptable. I kept their advice in mind and adjusted continuously. Over time, I noticed significant progress. My voice became steadier, my thoughts clearer and my confidence increased. I’d like to use this experience to prove that
challenges are not barriers, but opportunities. By pushing through our fears, we unlock our true potential.
