The Biggest Stadiums in the World
People have been pouring into stadiums since the days of ancient Greece. In around 80 A.D., the Romans built the Colosseum, which remains the world’s best known stadium and continues to inform contemporary design. Rome’s Colosseum was 157 feet tall and had 80 entrances, seating 50,000 people. However, that was small fry compared with the city’s Circus Maximus, which accommodated around 250,000 people.
These days, safety regulations-not to mention the modern sports fan’s desire for a good view and comfortable seat — tend to keep stadium capacities (容量) slightly lower. Even soccer fans tend to have a seat each; gone are the days of thousands
standing to watch the match.
For the biggest stadiums in the world, we have used data supplied by the World Atlas list so far, which ranks them by their stated permanent capacity, as well as
updated information from official stadium websites.
All these stadiums are still functional, still open and still hosting the biggest events in world sport.

While I was in 9th grade, I built a circuit (电路装置) for the traffic system of our city. After getting the first prize, I got this valuable advice from my father; “Do whatever interests you, and don’t let the work challenge you, make sure you are
challenging that work.”
I have always preferred the projects which are challenging and related to real life problems. I clearly remember building a shipping program several years ago. I
divided the whole project into several small sections. When I understood it clearly, used my brainstorming skill on it, and gave some basic ideas. Then I asked my
professor for help before jumping into coding (编码). At first, I did not know how to ask questions correctly and always asked the question “How do I do it ” As I kept working and discussed with my professor, I became more comfortable and those

“how ”questions soon turned into “what if I do this and that” types of questions.
It took me four days to write the code. The desire to solve the problem kept me sleepless all nights brainstorming in even greater details. Every time I saw my
program running smoothly, I exploded with joy. I still remember the last day of my work. I was getting some problem and didn’t know what to do. At that moment, a man came in to clean. He has headphones, and he was dancing while cleaning the room. Seeing this, I burst out laughing. That moment calmed me. I regained energy and interest and started to work again, and soon I fixed the problem.
My success in the project proved that breaking up a large problem into small
parts could help find a possible solution. Discussing the problem with others was also very beneficial. Now I have gained the confidence to attempt any kind of project.

Organic food is very safe and healthy, not just for our body but also the
environment. It is free from harmful chemicals that may affect us. It also strengthens our immune system (免疫系统). There are a lot of reasons why organic food is much more expensive than conventional food. Growing organic food takes a lot of effort
and money and shops selling organic food are using the popularity of organic food to sell it at a much higher price.
The number of organic crops is smaller than that of conventional crops. The
production costs are very high in organic farming. Many farmers don’t use herbicides or pesticides so they have to get rid of the weeds and pests in the fields all by hand,
which adds to the cost of organic food.
Also, conventional agriculture is heavily supported by the government in terms of taxes, while organic farming gets no help from the government at all. What’s more, the farmers can’t use sewage sludge (下水道污泥) and chemical fertilizers, which are cheap to buy.
Another reason is that the demand is much higher than the supply. While there are many people who are trying organic food, there are only a limited number of
farmers who produce it. The output of organic food is low while the transport and packaging costs are the same, which lead to its higher price.
Organic farming requires a lot of things that are not needed in conventional
farming. But if the demand becomes high enough, the government might one day help organic farming to lessen the costs.
8 .Which of the following is the closest in meaning to the underlined word “conventional” in Paragraph 1

Many people drink protein shakes regularly to lose weight, build muscle or
both. Others, however, question the belief that protein shakes are better than normal, high-protein foods. So what is the truth
Protein shakes are dietary supplements (饮食补充剂) designed to help people consume more protein than they otherwise would. Protein shakes can be ready-made drinks. Besides, people can mix their own shakes using protein powder. Protein
powder can be made from plants or animals. Plant-based protein shakes can include soy, pea or rice protein. Animal-based protein powder is usually made from cows’ milk. Those who want to avoid milk can also get protein powder made from egg
whites.
Studies indicate that consuming protein shakes is helpful if you want to build
muscle. They can also improve your performance and help you recover while
exercising. And if you’re losing weight, protein shakes can help to make sure that you don’t lose muscle.
Consuming protein shakes can also help you lose weight. Eating a high-protein diet helps you feel full, so it’s easier to resist eating too much. High-protein diets can also make your body burn energy quickly. When you use more energy than you take in through food, you lose weight.
However, you don’t have to drink protein shakes to have a high-protein diet.
试卷第 7 页,共 13 页
Many wholefoods are rich in protein. In fact, the people in many high-protein diet
studies didn’t drink protein shakes. The studies proved the benefits of eating
protein-rich foods. Moreover, these foods contain other natural nutrients besides
protein. In contrast, many protein shakes contain sugar or artificial sweeteners, which are not healthy.
To sum up, yes, protein shakes are convenient and they work. However, they are not your only choice for eating a high-protein diet.
12 .What’s paragraph 2 mainly about
A .What protein shakes are.
B .How protein shakes arc made.
C .Where protein shakes come from.
D .Why people drink protein shakes.
13 .What can be inferred about consuming protein shakes

第二节(共 5 小题;每小题 2.5 分,满分 12.5 分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Diets aren’t the way to go when it comes to losing weight. Most dieters gain
back any lost weight when they go back to their old eating habits. 16 Weight loss is most likely to be successful when people change their habits. Here are some
ways to make that happen:
Exercise. Regular physical activity burns calories and builds muscle — both of which help you look and feel good and keep weight off. Walking the family dog,
cycling to school, and doing other things can all make a difference. If you want to burn more calories, increase the intensity of your workout and add some strength exercises to build muscle 17
18 People who spend a lot of time watching TV, playing video games, and using computers are more likely to be overweight. Set reasonable limits on the
amount of such time you spend.
Eat 5 servings of fruits and vegetables a day. Fruits and vegetables are about more than just vitamins and minerals. 19 This means they fill you up. And when you fill up on fruits and veggies, you’re less likely to overeat.
Don’t skip breakfast. Breakfast starts your metabolism(新陈代谢), burning calories from the beginning of the day and giving you energy to do more during the day. People who skip breakfast often feel so hungry that they eat more later on.
20 In fact, people who skip breakfast tend to have higher BMIs(体重质量指数) than people who eat breakfast.
A .Set realistic goals.
B .Reduce screen time.
试卷第 9 页,共 13 页
C .They’re also rich in fiber(食物纤维).
