When you hear the word “pilot”, you probably think of someone who flies a plane. But today, there is a new kind of pilot becoming more and more important—the drone (无人机) pilot. A drone, or unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), is an aircraft without a human pilot on board. It is controlled by a pilot on the ground using a remote control.
Drone pilots do many different kinds of jobs. For example, they can use drones to take amazing photos and videos from the sky for movies or news reports. Farmers hire them to check on crops and see which parts of the field need more water. In some cities, police use drones to help find lost people or watch traffic. Drones can also deliver packages quickly, which is much faster than a deliveryman on a bike.
To become a professional drone pilot, you need to learn some important skills. First, you must be good at controlling the drone smoothly and safely. This requires a lot of practice. Second, you need to understand the rules for flying drones, like where you are allowed to fly and how high you can go. Finally, for special jobs like farming or making maps, you might need to learn how to use different cameras and sensors on the drone.
This job is exciting because you can work outdoors and use cool technology. However, it also has challenges. Sometimes you have to work in bad weather, and you need to be very careful to avoid accidents. If you love technology and have a good sense of responsibility, this could be the perfect future job for you.

Many people say that they are working too many hours. They don’t have enough time to relax or to stay with their family.
Work hours are different from one country to another. In France, people spend about 1,646 hours a year at work. In Japan, however, people work about 2,159 hours a year. That means a Japanese worker works 513 more hours a year than a French worker.
Why do people work so many hours Some people work extra hours because they want to make more money. However, many companies don’t pay overtime. Their workers don’t get more pay for more work. Some people think it’s their duty to work more hours. Some are afraid of losing their jobs if they don’t work more hours.
Many people say that their vacations are too short. In France, people get five weeks of paid vacation a year. In Germany, they get four to six weeks, and in the United States, two weeks. One study shows fewer than half of workers used all their vacation days. In Great Britain, there is a saying, “All work and no play makes Jack a dull (迟钝的) boy.” If that is true, there must be a lot of dull people in the world.

My father is a firefighter. My mother works at a supermarket. My grandfather works at the City Hall. My grandmother works in a daycare centre. My neighbour is a taxi driver.
I am not sure what I want to be. I like animals, so maybe I will work in a zoo or be a vet. I like food, so maybe I will be a waitress or a chef in a restaurant. My grandmother told me that if I study hard, I will have more choices about what I want to be when I grow up. She also says that, right now, I should learn more things. Later, I will know what I am good at and I can decide what I want to do. I think this is a good idea.

Chen’s coffee shop Mei@Yucun opened in March in Anji’s Yucun village. A number of 1.7-metre-high models of cartoon characters from cartoons like The Monkey King: Uproar in Heaven and the Calabash Brothers, stand in front of the store. “As more people began to visit Yucun village, I decided to open a coffee shop here at first,” said Chen. “______ I wanted to bring coffee and cartoon characters to the village, to add colour and energy to the countryside. Because of their love of Chinese animations, people’s attention is caught easily. They are reminded of their childhood, when they could enjoy cartoons and be happy.”

①What do you want to be when you grow up A study shows that more than 80% of children choose jobs they often see around them, like doctors and teachers—with teachers topping the list of kids’ dream jobs. But jobs such as cartoonists appear in less than 7% of their answers. We often overlook (忽视) jobs hidden outside our daily lives.
②Choosing a career is crucial because it will be a big part of your life. If you don’t enjoy your job, your life won’t be as happy as you wish it to be. Try looking into different possibilities! Your dream job might be something you’ve never heard of before.
③How can you start First, think about your interests and strengths(优势). This will help shape (塑造) your future job. If numbers excite you, maybe you can be a scientist. If storytelling comes naturally, then writing or film-making could be your choice. And remember to talk to your parents, teachers and friends. They can share ideas about different jobs.

Ted Brown’s dream as a child was an unusual one: he wanted to fly. What was more unusual was the way in which he made his dream come true.
After high school, he wanted to join the U.S. Air Force, but he failed because of his poor eyesight. However, his dream remained.
At the age of 33, Ted was a truck driver in Los Angeles. One day, while sitting outside in his garden, he watched planes fly overhead and an idea came to him: to use balloons (气球) to fly.
A few weeks later, Ted bought 42 huge balloons. He tied them to a chair and then he sat down in the chair with some beer, sandwiches and a gun. His plan was to fly to 10 meters above his garden, enjoy a few hours in the air, and then shoot some balloons with his gun to get back down. But things did not go as he planned.
Once his friends cut the ropes under Ted’s chair, the 42 balloons flew into the sky at an astonishing speed until about 4000 meters above the ground with Ted and his chair. He didn’t shoot any of the balloons because he was afraid he might break the balance (平衡) of his “plane”. Ted stayed in the sky with his beer and sandwiches for 14 hours, cold and frightened.
Planes heading towards Los Angeles’ busy international airport reported the strange sight. And Ted’s balloons caused great danger to them. At last, Ted gathered his courage to shoot a few balloons and slowly landed on the ground, where many policemen were waiting for him.
Ted made his dream come true, but it cost him: he was fined $1,500 for breaking the law about air safety.

My name is Wang Bing and I’m from Northeast China. I do a special kind of job about fire. People call me a smokejumper. This means that I jump out of airplanes to stop big fires from spreading in the forest!
I live and work in the Daxing’anling Prefecture (地区) in Heilongjiang Province. Thick forests, rich in wildlife, cover the beautiful and wild mountains here. Sadly, fires are quite common at certain times of the year. These fires are very dangerous. They can hurt or even kill people and animals.
When a forest fire starts, my teammates and I act fast. The fires are often difficult to reach, so we fly out in a plane and then jump down with a parachute (降落伞). Once we land, we race to put out the fire. We use simple tools to clear away dead leaves and trees to stop fires from spreading.
It is not easy to be a smokejumper. You have to be very brave, strong and smart. It is also important to be fit. If not, you might hurt yourself when you land. Finally, you need to be able to survive in the wild and know how to find food and a safe place to rest.
My job can be difficult and dangerous. However, I’m very proud of what I do. I love this beautiful land and I will do anything to protect it.

Nobody wants to lose, but we must accept that losing is part of life. After all, we can’t win all the time. However, we can learn something valuable from every failure. This may help us succeed in the future. So we must know how to be a good loser.
Failure is the mother of success. When we lose, just take it with a smile and look on the bright side of it. Edison failed 10,000 times before he invented the light bulb. But he said, “I didn’t fail 10,000 times. I just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.”
When I was in Grade 8, I failed my math exam. I felt so sad that I stopped going to school for a week. My dad said, “Failure is not the end. It’s a chance to learn. Let’s find out where you went wrong and fix it.”
With my dad’s help, I studied harder. I asked my teacher for help and did more exercises. After a month, I passed the next math exam with a high score. I learned that failure is not something to be afraid of. It’s a chance to grow stronger.
A good loser doesn’t run away from problems. Instead, they face them bravely and learn from them. This is the most important lesson we can get from growing up.

A.We should be afraid of failure. B.Failure can help us grow stronger.
C.Edison was a great inventor. D.Math is a difficult subject.
Peer pressure is not always bad. Sometimes it can push us to become better people. For example, if your friends study hard and get good grades, you might also start studying more. If your friends join a volunteer club, you might want to join too and help others.
My friend Li Ming is a good example. His friends all love reading and often share books with each other. At first, Li Ming didn’t like reading. But his friends kept inviting him to join their reading group. Slowly, he fell in love with reading. Now he reads at least one book a week and has even won a school reading competition.
Li Ming says, “Peer pressure can be a good thing if it pushes you to do something positive. It helps me become a better student and a better person.”
However, we must be careful. We should not follow our friends if they ask us to do something bad, like smoking or fighting. We should learn to say “no” and be true to ourselves.

When I was in Grade 8, I loved playing the violin. But my classmates thought it was “not cool” for a boy to play an instrument. They laughed at me every time I brought my violin to school. I felt so bad that I wanted to give up playing.
One day, I heard a radio show about peer pressure. The host said, “Peer pressure is just a part of growing up. You don’t have to fit in with everyone. Be proud of what you love, and don’t let others change who you are.”
Her words gave me courage. I decided to keep playing the violin. I joined a music club and made new friends who loved music too. I even took part in a school talent show and played the violin on stage. Now my classmates no longer laugh at me. Some even say they want to learn to play an instrument too.
I learned that peer pressure can be hard, but it can also make us stronger. We should never give up on the things we love just because others don’t understand.

Dear Amy,
I’m new in this town and I don’t have many friends. The other girls in my class all like the same clothes and music, but I like different things. I feel like I don’t fit in, and I’m afraid if I don’t change, no one will like me. What should I do
—Lily
Dear Lily,
It’s normal to feel this way when you’re new. Many teenagers worry about fitting in and face peer pressure. But remember, being yourself is more important than being like everyone else.
First, don’t be afraid to show your real interests. Your true friends will like you for who you are, not for what you wear or what music you listen to. Second, try to join a club or activity that you enjoy—this is a great way to meet people who share your hobbies. Finally, talk to your teacher or a parent if you feel sad—they can give you support and advice.
You don’t have to change to fit in. Being different is what makes you special!

What peer pressure is
Peers are people who are about the same age as you. Peer pressure is when one or more friends or people your own age make you feel pressured to do something. You feel as if you have to do that thing because your peers are doing it, or are trying to make you do it.
Good peer pressure
Good peer pressure is when you feel pressured to do something good. You might do something good for yourself, for others, or for the environment. For example, your friends might ask you to study harder for a test, or to join a volunteer club to help others. This kind of peer pressure can help you grow and become a better person.
Bad peer pressure
Bad peer pressure is when you feel pressured to do something you shouldn’t do. For example, it might be something that goes against rules, something dangerous, or something bad for your health. It might also be something that goes against your values, or what you believe is good or right. For example, your friends might ask you to skip class, to lie to your parents, or to try smoking or drinking.
How to deal with peer pressure
It’s not always easy to deal with peer pressure, but there are things you can do. First, learn to say “no” when you don’t want to do something. Second, talk to a trusted adult, like a parent or teacher, if you feel worried. Third, choose friends who respect your choices and values. Finally, remember that it’s okay to be different—you don’t have to follow the crowd to fit in.

Growing up is full of ups and downs. Many teenagers face “growing pains” like failing exams, not being chosen for a team, or arguing with friends. These moments can make us feel sad, angry, or disappointed. But they are also chances to learn and grow.
When we experience failure, we can choose to give up or to try something new. For example, if you don’t get into the sports team you wanted, you might find a new hobby like painting, music, or another sport. This can open up new doors and help you make new friends.
Remember, no one is perfect. Everyone makes mistakes. The key is to look at challenges in the right way. Failure is just a temporary moment, and it can teach us valuable lessons that will help us in the future.

A.Growing up is easy and without problems.
B.Failure is terrible and should be avoided.
C.Growing pains and failure are part of life and help us grow.
D.Teenagers should never try new things.
Have you ever experienced peer pressure For example, one day you’re with some friends playing video games and someone mentions, “Oh, that game is easy. So not worth the time.” The others agree. Although you enjoy the game, not wanting to argue with them, you go along with the crowd. That is the peer pressure, which is also called peer influence. You will adopt a certain type of behavior, dress, or attitude in order to be accepted as a member of your peers.
We are all influenced by our peers at any age. As teens, it is more likely to be influenced by your peers around you. It is because you are away from home, and you may spend more time with your friends than with your family. As you become more independent, your peers naturally play a greater role in your life.
According to researchers, teens can make correct decisions when they are calm. However, when they make decisions in the heat of the moment, their decisions are often influenced by their peers. In a recent study, a teen played a video game, either alone or with friends watching. The researchers discovered that the risks doubled when their friends were watching, compared with when they played alone.
Just as people can influence us to make unwise choices, they can also influence us to make good ones. A teen might join in a volunteer project because his or her friends are doing it, or get good grades. In fact, friends often encourage each other to study, or try out for sports. While we are always influenced by those around us, the decision to act or not is up to us. So when it comes to decision making, the choice is up to you.

D.Because they learn a lot from their peers.
57.How does peer pressure influence teens positively
A.It makes them more independent.
B.It encourages them to develop themselves in positive ways.
C.It keeps them away from unwise risks.
D.It always helps them make good decisions.
58.What does the writer want to tell us
A.Mistakes can be avoided if we think twice.
B.We are supposed to choose friends carefully.
C.It is important to make decisions by ourselves.
D.Peers can influence us to make unwise choices.
Amy was a new student at Green Middle School. She felt lonely and worried because she didn’t know anyone. On the first day, the school held an “ice-breaking” game for new students.
In the game, students were divided into small teams. They had to work together to solve a map puzzle and find the finish line. Amy was in a team with three other students. At first, no one talked much. But soon, they started to share ideas.
“Look at the map! There’s a star here. Maybe it’s a clue,” said Cindy, one of her teammates. Everyone looked carefully and agreed. They followed the clues and ran together. Sometimes they argued, but they always listened to each other.
In the end, they finished just one step behind the Red Team. They didn’t win first place, but they laughed and high-fived each other. Amy made three new friends that day.

Teamwork is an important part of school life, but it often brings challenges that students need to overcome. Many students experience difficulties when working in groups, which can affect their projects and learning experience. Understanding these problems and knowing how to solve them can make teamwork more effective and enjoyable for everyone in the group.
One common problem in teamwork is an unfair share of work. Some students end up doing most of the work while others do very little. This will create extra pressure for those working harder. Another obvious problem is poor communication. When team members don’t share ideas clearly or don’t listen to each other, misunderstandings appear, and their work may be put off. In addition, conflicts (矛盾) often happen when students have different opinions about how to complete tasks, which can stop the group from making progress.
Luckily, there are useful solutions to these problems. First, giving out clear roles to each team member helps guarantee that everyone shares the work fairly (公平地). Second, holding regular meetings allows the group to discuss progress and solve problems together. Most importantly, when disagreements happen, team members should listen to each other respectfully and try to find solutions that satisfy everyone.
Good teamwork requires effort from all the members. When students work together effectively, they not only complete projects successfully but also develop important life skills like communication, problem-solving, and cooperation. By finding common teamwork problems and using these ways to solve them, students can turn group work into a positive and productive experience.

Do you do team projects at school I do a lot. I enjoy team projects because I like sharing ideas with other people. Of course, team activities aren’t always easy. You need to know how to work well together. Here are some suggestions to make teamwork easier.
Know the goals.Make sure everyone understands the goal of the project. If you’re doing a class project, you need to check the teacher’s instructions carefully and ask questions whenever something isn’t clear. There’s a popular saying: If you don’t know where you’ re going, you probably won’t get there.Assign (指派) roles. Everyone should have a role in the team. For example, there should be a leader and he or she helps everyone make decisions. There might be a note-taker to write down the team’s ideas during meetings, and a timekeeper to control the time. There might also be a fact-checker or a group speaker.Divide the work. For large projects, the work can be divided into smaller tasks. Then you can choose tasks that you do well or enjoy. Of course, you shouldn’t always do the same task. It’s good to try new things, even if they’re difficult!Make a plan. After you divide the work, write down a plan on paper. You can use a calendar to help you. List all the tasks and think about when each one must be finished. It’s important for everyone to follow the plan. And if you can’t finish your part on time, tell the others as soon as possible.

At the Paralympic Games (残奥会), many blind or nearly blind athletes race (比赛) with the help of a guide. These pairs work very closely together.
Jerusa Geber is a runner who lost her sight as a teenager. When she races with her guide Garcia, he runs to her left. They each hold one end of a short rope. If they’ve started well, he matches her speed bit by bit, but with the opposite foot. They work so well together that Jerusa now holds the women’s world record in the 100-metre race for blind or nearly blind athletes.
Since 2012, guides at the Paralympics can win medals too. But the teamwork is about more than just winning. Garcia is a runner himself. “I like being a guide,” he said. “I feel more pressure (压力) at the Paralympics. I have to give 200% of myself to avoid mistakes and help my teammate do her best.”
In cycling, Hannah Chadwick and her guide, Skyler Espinoza, also work closely. When they ride together, Espinoza always holds Chadwick’s hand before starting,” It’s a reminder (提示) that we’re in this together,” Espinoza said.
Chadwick and Espinoza follow the same training plan. Sometimes, when the training gets hard, Chadwick thinks of her teammate. “I’m not training just for myself,” she said. “I’m training for both of us!”
People sometimes say Espinoza is making a sacrifice (牺牲) for a disabled athlete. But she doesn’t see it that way. Espinoza believes that if she hadn’t been a Paralympic guide, she would never have shone so much in sport. “I’m lucky that Hannah chose me to do this, just as I chose to do it with her,” she said.
