If you’re like me, patience is a virtue that doesn’t come without effort. It takes a lot of practice, and I’m devoting a year to the pursuit. Patience is my word for 2022. Maybe you’ re still trying to settle on yours, and I’d love to hear about it.
I picked patience one Saturday after my daughter Evie had pressed the “Can I
call you later ” auto reply instead of answering her cell phone. Twice. I’d waited a
couple hours in between calls, and that was after having texted her first thing that
morning just to say hi. Worry built while I cleaned the fish tank, slightly admiring the simple aquatic life.
Evie was a college student, living off campus with three roommates. They
looked out for one another, all were smart and careful, and I had no reason to think
Evie was in real trouble. But maybe she’d had a spat with one of her friends or was
running low on money. Maybe she was drowning in schoolwork. I imagined a million what-ifs. Weren’t cell phones made to put a parent’s mind at ease Evie was going to get a mouthful when she finally found a free minute to tell me that I didn’t need to
worry.
试卷第 5 页,共 15 页
I filled the aquarium with fresh water, and my impatience reached the top as
well. The fish swam laps in the crystal-clear tank. I wished I were more like these
peaceful angels living in the moment. Evie finally called late that night. She was at a party but wanted to catch me before I went to bed. “Sorry, Mom. Today was so busy and great!” I told her that was just what I had imagined. I didn’t mention that I was practicing a whole new way to wait.

A.A college student’s busy academic life.B.The importance of patience in daily life.
C .The author’s favorite word for 2022. D .A mother’s deep love for her daughter.

As gold prices hit new highs, a gold panning trend is popular in China’s old mining towns. Tourists can sift sand and shallow streams to find tiny gold flakes, which they can take home for free.
In Shandong and Zhejiang provinces, former mining towns now let visitors walk through underground tunnels, learn mining skills, and look for gold in streams and sandpits. A
mining-themed park in Zhejiang’s Suichang County earned 13% more from tickets than last year by late August. During the recent 8-day National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holiday, over
15,000 people booked tickets there. This year, gold prices have reached record levels. On October
试卷第 6 页,共 15 页
8, international gold prices went above $4,000 per ounce. A visitor to the Suichang park said her
husband found a small gold flake. Though it was hard to find and not valuable, “the kids were
very happy,” she added. Each flake weighs 0.03 to 0.05 grams, worth about 35 to 60 yuan now.
The park’s entry ticket costs 126 yuan, and people pay an extra 30 yuan for the
gold-panning activity. The “panning pool” is man-made. Since the park opened in 2007, it has
added 1 kilogram of gold foil to the pool, said park manager Luo Feng. Besides gold panning, the park also offers tours of Tang (618-907) and Ming (1368-1644) dynasty mining tunnels, plus a
museum. Similar spots exist in other places: a “Gold Panning Town” and museum in a closed mine in Shandong Zhaoyuan City, and a planned museum in Jilin’s Jiapigou (a 200-year-old major gold mine).
Experts say this trend shows people now prefer “hands-on experiences” over just
sightseeing. Luo plans to add gold jewelry making and gold-foil art workshops to attract young people. “Gold stands for wealth and stability, which people of all ages care about,” he said. This kind of travel is called “industrial tourism” (visiting industrial places). It started in Europe in the mid-20th century and came to China in the late 1990s. With government support, China now has over 1,000 such spots, from old steel mills to new electric-vehicle factories. But for long-term
growth, industrial tourism needs to go beyond “factory tours and souvenir shops”, and bring in “immersive, narrative, and interactive designs to help bring industrial stories into everyday life,” Zeng Bowei, a professor in tourism economy at Beijing Union University, told domestic media.
28 .Why does the text start with the example of “gold prices hitting new highs”
A .To explain why gold flakes found by tourists are extremely valuable.
B .To prove that gold markets have a direct impact on Chinese tourism.
C .To encourage readers to participate in gold panning in tourism activities.
D .To introduce the topic of the popularity of gold-panning industrial tourism.
29 .Why is “hands-on experience” tourism like gold panning becoming popular
A .Because people want to make money from them.
B .Because people prefer taking part in activities actively.
C .Because there are no other interesting tourist attractions.
D .Because the government urges people to visit industrial tourism sites.

A .Walk through underground tunnels from the Tang and Ming dynasties.
B .Pan for gold in a man-made pool with gold foil.
C .Visit a museum about mining history.
D .Make gold jewelry in special workshops.
31 .What is the author’s main purpose in writing this passage
A .To advertise the gold-panning activities at the Suichang mining-themed park.
B .To explain the historical origin of China’s industrial tourism.
C .To introduce the popularity and development of gold-panning-themed industrial tourism.
D .To persuade readers to visit old mining towns for gold-panning experience.

In a drawing room in rural Oxfordshire, an artist slowly and deliberately puts
pen to paper. Her arm moves across the canvas, the marks gradually integrating into a portrait of herself. It seems like a moment of creative expression. But this is no
ordinary artist — she is the world’s first humanoid robot artist, Ai-Da. By design, her very existence brings into question how we define art, and who, or in this case, what, can create it.
Will AI algorithms (算法) and robots like Ai-Da mean the end of human
creativity and artistry, or can they strengthen our own creative potential When
Marcel Duchamp proposed that a urinal (小便池) be considered art, he flipped the art world on its head. In much the same way, AI-created artworks are changing the
standards ofthe art world, because both were controversial and contain objects that haven’t technically been created by an “artist’s” hand.
Someone argues that a humanoid artist like Ai-Da represents society’s current
fears — the rise of job-stealing AI algorithms and potential robot domination. But
technological revolutions like artificial intelligence don’t necessarily mean the “end of art” as many fear. Instead, they can help to kickstart an artistic transformation and
move us towards different ways of seeing and creating. “AI might kick us into being creative again as humans,” says mathematician Du Sautoy, who sees it as a powerful
试卷第 8 页,共 15 页
partner in the pursuit of human creativity.
However, questions of authorship haunt the artificial intelligence story. Artists Holly Herndon and Mat Dryhurst co-founded Spawning AI, which aimed at
empowering human creators to prohibit AI from using their works. But there are also artists who see AI as a new outlet for their own creativity. Some artists are now even training algorithms in an attempt to push their own creative boundaries.
It’s clear that AI algorithms and machines like Ai-Da are having an impact on the art world. Their works are exhibited alongside more traditional forms of art
worldwide. Next year we’ll see the world’s first AI art gallery open its doors in LA. Eva J ger, the creative AI lead, is also helping to bring AI art to the masses, with a programme of exhibitions leading to critical discussion about the impact of
technology on art. She sees the cooperation between human and machine as a space for real creative potential.
32 .What does the phrase “flipped the art world on its head” in paragraph 2 probably mean
A .Dominated the art world. B .Overturned the art standards.
C .Broadened artists’ horizons. D .Recognized artists’ wisdom.
33 .What influence will Ai-Da generate on the art world according to Du Sautoy
A .It will increase the commercial value. B .It will replace human artists soon.
C .It may boost human creativity. D .It may cause fears in artists.
34 .What can be inferred from the last two paragraphs
A .Spawning AI helps human artists use AI works.
B .Some artists train AI to work for them.
C .AI art gallery will win over more visitors.
D .Eva J ger looks favorably to the future of AI.
35 .What’s the author’s purpose in writing the text
A .To argue that AI will eventually outperform human artists.
B .To promote the idea that artworks created by AI lack value.
C .To explore the impact of AI on art definition and creativity.
试卷第 9 页,共 15 页
D .To record the history of art movements and their significance.

67 .“Bye, Mom; bye, Dad; don’t worry. We’ll take care of everything!” Carly waved from the front door of the shop as her parents drove off. They were headed for a well-deserved vacation from their candy store, and Carly had promised them she’d be able to run it by herself. Her parents didn’t quite agree originally. However, they gave in by having Carly’s Aunt Maggie come over and help. Her parents often called

her aunt “uniquely creative” and Carly always had fun when her aunt was around.
Maggie blew into the store happily. “All right, Carly my love, what do we do first ” she smiled at her niece. Carly knew clearly the main job was to
serve-customers, so she could hardly wait to make her best candies. Seeing them on
display, Aunt Maggie bit a bite of the chocolate mint-flavored candy. “It’s good, but... unoriginal,” commented her aunt. “We can do better.” Before Carly could question
what Maggie meant, the woman had gone to investigate the kitchen in the back. Shortly, she came back, hands full of items.
“We need to add some of these to better that basic taste.” “Brussels sprouts ”
Carly looked at her aunt, thunderstruck. She couldn’t be serious! But she was. Carly’s eyes grew wide as she watched her aunt mix it together. “And some spicy sauce
That’s definitely an ice cream flavor. The cold will perfectly make candies less spicy!”
Carly shook her head in shock as Maggie continued her strange combinations: lemonade with pickle juice, barbeque-flavored candyfloss(棉花糖), and lima bean ice cream
