如一些表示转折的连词,but ,However ,yet ,though ,nevertheless 等,另外还有一些表示并列关系的连词如 and,also,as well as,neither nor,either or,not only...but also,on the one hand....on the other hand 等。
常见的表示例证关系的标志词语有:for example, for instance, in fact/as a matter of fact, actually, in other words/that is to say 等。
表示转折关系的标志词语有: but, however, yet, while/though/although, or/otherwise, on the contrary, instead, nevertheless(然而), still, in contrast/comparison, by comparison 等。
因果关系 表示因果关系的标志词语有:so, therefore, thus, consequently(结果), as a result (of), so/such ...that ..., so that ...
表示递进关系的标志词语有:too, also, besides, further, furthermore, moreover, likewise, similarly, what's more, what's worse, in addition, as well, to make matters worse, not ... but ..., not only ... but also 等。
并列关系 表示并列关系的标志词语有:and, first(ly), second(ly); first, then/next; to begin with, some ... others ...; for one thing, for another thing; then/next, finally/last 等。
● If you work out bright and early in the morning, you will be more likely to stick to healthy food choices throughout the day. Who would want to ruin their good workout by eating junk food You will want to continue to focus on positive choices.
…A .You will stick to your diet.
B .Your quality of sleep improves.
C .You prefer healthy food to fast food.
D .There is no reason you should exercise in the morning.
E .You can keep your head clear for 4-10 hours after exercise.
F .After you exercise, you continue to burn calories throughout the day.
G .If you are planning to do exercise regularly, or you're doing it now, then listen up!
“healthy food”“junk food”与 A 项中的 diet 相关,故选 A。

●Your metabolism (新陈代谢) gets a head start. ________ If you work out in the mornings, then you will be getting the calorie (卡路里) burning benefits for the whole day, not in your sleep.
F 项“晨练之后你还会在一天时间里继续消耗卡路里” 中的关键词“throughout the day”与文中的“the whole day”呼应。故选 F。
The large color decisions in your rooms concern the walls, ceilings, and floors. Whether you're looking at wallpaper or paint, the time, effort and relative expense put into it are significant.
.A .While all of them are useful
B .Whatever you're looking for
C .If you're experimenting with a color
D .Small color choices are the ones we're most familiar with
E .It's not really a good idea to use too many small color pieces
F .So it pays to be sure, because you want to get it right the first time
G .Color choices in this range are a step up from the small ones in two major ways
根据空前的“the time, effort and relative expense put into it are significant”可知,大型物品的颜色选择所需要的时间、精力、费用很大,这恰与 F项构成因果关系。
● Studies found that people who woke up early for exercise slept better than those who exercised in the evening. Exercise energizes you, so it is more difficult to relax and have a
peaceful sleep when you are very excited.A .You will stick to your diet.
Medium color choices are generally furniture pieces such as sofas, dinner tables or bookshelves. . They require a bigger commitment than smaller ones, and they have a more powerful effect on the feeling of a space.A .While all of them are useful
B .Whatever you're looking for
C .If you're experimenting with a color
D .Small color choices are the ones we're most familiar with
E .It's not really a good idea to use too many small color pieces
F .So it pays to be sure, because you want to get it right the first time
G .Color choices in this range are a step up from the small ones in two major ways
. They're the little spots of color like throw pillows, mirrors and baskets that most of us use to add visual interest to our rooms. Less tiring than painting your walls and less expensive
than buying a colorful sofa, small color choices bring with them the significant benefit of being easily changeable.A .While all of them are useful
I was, nevertheless, talked into going on another fun_filled holiday in the wilderness. Instead, we had a pop_up camper with comfortable beds and an air conditioner. My nature_loving friends had remembered to bring all the necessities of life.A .This time there was no tent.
B .Things are going to be improved.
C .The trip they took me on was a rough one.
D .I was to learn a lot about camping since then, however.
E .I must say that I have certainly come to enjoy camping.
F .After the trip, my family became quite interested in camping.
G .There was no shade as the trees were no more than 3 feet tall.
Over the years, there have been a number of different techniques to help designers approach this important point. , they can get a little complex. But good news is that there're really only three kinds of decisions you need to make about color in your home: the small ones, the
medium ones, and the large ones.A .While all of them are useful
B .Whatever you're looking for
C .If you're experimenting with a color
D .Small color choices are the ones we're most familiar with
E .It's not really a good idea to use too many small color pieces
F .So it pays to be sure, because you want to get it right the first time
G .Color choices in this range are a step up from the small ones in two major ways
空格后的 they 指代上文中的 techniques,且与 A 项中的all of them 相呼应,代入 A 项“尽管它们都很有用”,符合语境,故选 A。
If anyone had told me three years ago that I would be spending most of my weekends
camping, I would have laughed heartily.Campers, in my eyes, were people who enjoyed insect bites, ill_cooked meals, and uncomfortable sleeping bags. They had nothing in common with
me.
The friends who introduced me to camping thought that it meant to be a pioneer ...
I was, nevertheless, talked into going on another fun_filled holiday in the wilderness ...
We have done a lot ofit since
40(E) It must be true that sooner or later, everyone finds his or her way back to nature.I recommend that you find your way in style.A .This time there was no tent.

●Recall (回忆) your childhood memories
Our model of what a garden should be often goes back to childhood. Grandma's rose garden and Dad's vegetable garden might be good or bad, but that's not what's important. — how being in those gardens made us feel. plan to translate your childhood memories into your grown_up garden. Have fun.A .Know why you garden
B .Find a good place for your own garden
C .It's our experience of the garden that matters

E .Still others may simply enjoy being outdoors and close to plants
F .You can produce that kind of magical quality in your own garden, too
G .For each of those gardens, write down the strongest memory you have
Unfortunately, we've all been victims of betrayal. Whether we've been stolen from, lied to, misled, or cheated on, there are different levels of losing trust. Sometimes people simply can't
trust anymore. It's understandable, but if you're willing to build trust in a relationship again, we have some steps you can take to get you there.
...A .Learn to really trust yourself.
B .It is putting confidence in someone.
C .Stop regarding yourself as the victim.
D .Remember that you can expect the best in return.
E .They've been too badly hurt and they can't bear to let it happen again.
F .This knowledge carries over in their attitude toward their future relationships.
G .Seeing the positive side of things doesn't mean you're ignoring what happened.

One of the most common mistakes in communication is trying to do too much. 6 There’s no value in delivering any kind of communication, whether written, spoken, formal, or informal, if the message doesn’t come across clearly. Being clear
and brief — while maintaining interest and including everything your listeners need to know — is a high-level communication skill.
Here are some tips worth following in order to communicate more effectively.

If you’ve ever worked as an instructor, manager, trainer or coach, you’ll know that there are few better ways to learn new information than to teach it. Ask the
audience to contribute their ideas or to take a role in explaining new concepts and policies to others. Allow them to lead discussions and meetings to develop their communication skills.
Consider the best method to deliver your message.
If the information you’re communicating isn’t urgent, consider sending an

submit a perfect, professionally presented manuscript (原稿) 11 No editor is likely to tolerate a writer who does not take the trouble to spell words correctly.
I keep two reference books close-by on my desk: dictionary and thesaurus I don't trust my laptop's spellchecker 12 Of course, these days there are plenty of online dictionaries and thesauruses, but I'm old-fashioned enough to
prefer a hard cover and pages I can leaf through with my fingers. I use the Concise Oxford Dictionary and the Collins Thesaurus.
13 It should give you a precise definition of each word, thus
differentiating it from other words whose meanings are similar, but not identical. It will also usually show how the word is pronounced.
In addition, I have an old two-volume copy of the Shorter Oxford Dictionary, picked up a few years ago in a bookshop sale for just 99 pence. Of course, with its 2,672 pages, it's not exactly short. It contains around 163,000 words, plus word
combinations and idiomatic phrases. 14 However, if I need to check the origin of a word or to look up examples of its usage, there's nothing better.
For well over a hundred years the most influential English dictionary was
Samuel Johnson's Dictionary of the English Language published in 1755. "To make dictionaries is dull (乏味) work," wrote Johnson, illustrating one definition of "dull". 15 A few minutes spent casting your eye over a page or two can be a
rewarding experience.
A .I don't often use this dictionary.
B .It takes no account of the context.
C .But I still don't want to replace them.
D .But a dictionary can be a pleasure to read.
E .Of course, a dictionary is not only for spelling.
F .That means good grammar and no spelling mistakes.
G .Dictionaries don't always give you enough information.

Overtourism Is For Real: How Can You Help
Travel promotes understanding, expands our minds, makes us better people, and boosts local economies and communities, but the rapid growth of travel has led to
overtourism in certain regions and destinations. 16 Certainly not. The loss of what travel offers would be unacceptable in today’s world. Here are some tips on
making wise decisions to minimize pressure on the places we visit and improve our experience.
●Choose mindfully. Overvisited destinations are that way for a reason: they’re special. With so many online posts featuring the same places, it’s easy to feel like
you’re missing out. Go somewhere only when the landscape, culture or food deeply draws you. 17
●Get creative. The best way to ease pressure on over-touristed destinations is to go somewhere else. Though overtourism is described as a problem affecting the entire world, it’s actually concentrated to a small number of extremely popular spots. That
means you have tons of less-visited options to choose from. 18 Why not try a regional alternative or check out a popular destination’s lesser-known sights
● 19 Minimize impact and maximize experience by skipping major
holidays or rush hour. You’ll compete with fewer tourists, save money, experience a different side of a popular place, and boost the economy when tourism is traditionally slower.
Visiting a place that others call home is a privilege (荣幸). Do your part to preserve what makes a destination special in the first place. 20 You may be amazed how much closer you’ll feel to the people there.
A .Visit during off-peak times.
B .So, should we stop traveling
C .Travel for you and no one else.
D .Can overtourism be avoided then
E .You can still find relatively undiscovered places.
F .You’ll find yourself virtually alone, or close to it.
G .Consider giving back to the communities you’re visiting.

What is moderation (适度) Basically, it means eating only as much food as your body needs. You should feel satisfied at the end of a meal, but not too full.
21 But it doesn't mean saying goodbye to the foods you love.
Take your time. It's important to slow down and think about food as something nutritious rather than just something to eat in between meetings. 22 It actually takes a few minutes for your brain to tell your body that it has had enough food, so eat slowly and stop eating before you feel full.
Eat with others whenever possible. Eating alone, especially in front ofthe TV or computer, often leads to mindless overeating. And be careful about the foods you
keep at hand. It's more challenging to eat in moderation if you have unhealthy snacks at the ready, like cookies. 23
Control emotional (情绪的) eating 24 Many of us also turn to food to deal with unpleasant emotions such as sadness, loneliness, or boredom. But by
learning healthier ways to manage emotions, you can regain control over the food you eat and your feelings.
25 A healthy breakfast can start your metabolism (新陈代谢), while eating small, healthy meals keeps your energy up all day. Avoid eating late at night. Try to eat dinner earlier and fast for 14-16 hours until breakfast the next morning.
Studies suggest that eating only when you're most active and giving your digestive system a long break each day may help to regulate weight.
A .Eat properly throughout the day.
B .We don't always eat just to satisfy hunger.
C .Don't swallow a meal on the way to work.
D .Most of us need to double the amount we eat.
E .Instead, surround yourself with healthy choices.

If you want to develop maximum credibility (可信性), is it better to be a
hedgehog (刺猬) or a fox According to Isaiah Berlin, the hedgehog knows one thing very well, and the fox knows a lot of things.
Is there a clear advantage of one style over the other Hedgehog thinkers tend to answer yes. 26 And they are usually very credible in doing so. According to Jim Hart, the “hedgehog concept” is one of the factors that lead companies to greatness.
They focus on one thing and do it really well. They figure out what they are good at. 27 The hedgehog concept makes perfect sense for companies.
28 Philip Tate has studied the track records of those folks on the Sunday talk shows who make predictions about what will happen. He has found that
hedgehogs are not only wrong more often than foxes, but that they are less likely to recognise or admit that they are wrong when events do not match their predictions.
The advantage that foxes have is that they are more likely to seek out new
information from a broader range of sources, and are comfortable with uncertainty
and new information. 29 They try to include it in their viewpoint rather than to exclude it from their thinking. They also have a clearer estimation of what they know and don’t know.
So, which is better The question can be answered in a foxy hedgehog style.
30 The choice between being a hedgehog or a fox is a false trade-off. The most effective way to go through life is to try to be that rare mixture known as foxy
hedgehog.
A .In other words, there are clear advantages for each.
B .They are more likely to remember people’s mistakes.
C .Hence, they have the advantage of clarity and confidence.
D .But there can be a downside to concentration on one big thing.
E .However, hedgehogs remain open to others’ reactions and inputs.
F .When something is contradictory to their view, they don’t treat it as exceptional.

In the past few years, online learning has become a significant part of the
university and college experience. 31 But are all online courses created equal How can you be sure that digital learning is right for you 32 We interviewed students and professors to get their advice about online courses.
The most obvious advantage of online learning is that you can study anywhere and anytime. 33 “I think a point that many people lose sight ofis how easy it can be to fall behind schedule,” says graduate student Amanda Bindman. Before
choosing to study online, consider whether you’re a self-motivated learner and if the material seems interesting enough to keep you going.
The tip that comes up most often is simple: build online courses into your
weekly schedule, just like what you would do with in person courses. 34 He
noted that his online students usually end up with lower grades. It is so easy to let an online course slide, but your grades will suffer as a result. Be sure to schedule set
times to watch your lectures, read materials and contribute to online discussion boards.
35 A social connection is often a big part of learning. There are things
you can do to ease this problem. Jessica Pink, an undergraduate student, suggests
taking online courses with a friend, so you can motivate each other to stay on track. You can also find students on the class discussion board to organize a study group, or schedule in-person meeting s with your professor to discuss course concepts.
A .But that doesn’t mean there aren’t deadlines.
B .Your motivation should be your main concern.
C .Do you know that online courses are also part of your education
D .Professor Alex Davidson teaches the same course in person and online.
E .The chief complaint about online courses is that they lack human interaction.
F .If you take an online course, what can you do to ensure the best possible grade
G .A survey found that 29 percent of college students registered for online courses.

Challenging, fun and engaging hobbies have the power to make us happier and healthier. 36 Here is how you can start and discover things you don’t yet
know you’ll like.
Start small. Ease in to figure out if it’s right for you. For instance, sign up for a one-time dance class rather than a set of eight. 37 Say you enjoy learning to swim, but the next step is competing, and you don’t want to do that. Just stop there — you have spent enough of the day pushing yourself.
38 When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up The answer could lead you to an appealing hobby. Revisiting activities you loved
when you were young is a really helpful place to start. Those little things that once made you lose track of time often hold clues to what still excites you.
Ask yourself how you want to feel. 39 They can help you clear your
mind and relax. Consider how exactly you want an activity to make you feel. If you
long for a break from overthinking, knitting could be a good choice to relax you. If
you want to be socially connected, joining a book club can let you interact with others and build warm connections.
Keeping an open mind, even if it doesn’t seem your thing. We’re wired as
humans to be curious and open, but in a very burned-out world, we forget that. So
next time someone hands you a flier or invites you to tag along to an event, seize the opportunity. 40
A .Take a trip back in time.
B .Hobbies present an escape.
C .Think about your future career.
D .Plus, they often foster connections with others.
E .Your skills improve as you practise new hobbies.
F .It’s also smart to resist the pressure to overcommit.
G .It could be something you never imagined you’d love.

It has long been known that sleep also plays a significant role in physical and emotional health. Now, researchers from the University of South Australia have
published a new study in the Journal of Neuroscience. 41 This is good news for anyone who wants to study a foreign language.
According to a blog on Everywhere English, there are two phases that the brain cycles through when sleeping. 42 During this phase, which usually happens about an hour and a half after a person has fallen asleep, brain activity is high and shows
levels that are similar to when that person is awake. This is when dreams occur. In non-REM sleep, brain activity is low.
43 But in fact, the researchers from the University of South Australia found that just the opposite is true.
According to a University of South Australia press release, the researchers
conducted an experiment with 35 native English speakers. Half of the students learned the language in the morning and then went on with their days. 44 This way
the researchers could record their brainwaves. Both groups were tested on their
knowledge in the morning. The group that had slept soon after they studied performed significantly better than those who had not.
“ 45 It’s an active, transformative state for the brain,” Dr. Scott Cousins, a researcher at the University of South Australia, said in the press release.
A .Sleep is not just restful.
B .The first is called REM sleep.
C .Does sleep help you learn language
D .If you are active, you’ll have a good memory.
E .It investigates the way sleep helps people learn language.
F .But the other half studied in the evening and then slept at the lab.

Voice notes are a highly divisive medium of communication. There are
those, like me, who enjoy both leaving and listening to them; and then there are those who dislike them and feel very strongly about that. 46 A poll found that 62% of Americans have sent voice notes, and about 30% communicate this way on a
regular basis. But even the voice note lovers among us have our limits. All of us know a voice note bore. And it is time to establish some ground rules.
The first rule: only ever leave voice notes for someone that you are confident
likes you 47 It is also somewhat self-indulgent (我行我素) .While a spot of self-indulgence can be healthy, it is unreasonable to expect someone who dislikes you to indulge you.
Never give complicated instructions in a voice note. 48 If you end up leaving a long voice note that contains a mixture of key information and other bits, follow it up with a text that gives the other person the important stuff, so they're not forced to listen straight away.
49 Leaving a voice note that is under 10 seconds long-unless you are funny or the other person likes you-is annoying. Type it out instead.
Follow the other person's cues. If they are responding to your eight-minute
specials with one-minute voice messages, take the hint. Also, if your message is
longer than about four minutes, you should be open to the possibility that the other person is going to take a long time to listen and respond. If your message is upwards of 10 minutes, they might never listen to it. 50
All you need do, really, is remember to use a bit of common sense. Modern innovations need not negate good old-fashioned manners.
A .Be at peace with that.
B .Be responsive and informative.
C .You need not keep your messages too short.
D .It seems the haters are losing the battle, though.
E .A voice note is a demand on someone else's time.

Mental resilience (韧性) has become a vital skill in today’s fast-paced world.
51 Research indicates that individuals with high resilience levels are 35 % more likely to maintain mental health during long-term stress. Let’s explore scientific ally proven methods to strengthen this ability.
The Main Idea Explained
Resilience is not about reducing stress but managing it effectively. Emerging neurobiological evidence sheds light on this positively adaptive process. 52
Neuroscientists (神经学家) compare it to muscle training: facing proper challenged regularly improved mental ability to adjust. For instance, A 2023 Harvard study
showed that proper stress increased brain thickness in areas related to making decisions.
Physical Activity as a Foundation
Exercise is universally recognized as a key resilience-building tool. During
aerobic workouts, the body producers BDNF (脑源性神经营养因子), a protein
important for brain development. 53 Meanwhile, this chemical process not only improved mood but also strengthens mental abilities. To maximize benefits, experts
suggest combining 30 minutes of daily exercise with relaxation methods such as deep breathing.
The Power of Social Bonds
Human beings succeed through meaningful connections. Strong social networks act as psychological safety nets during c rises. 54 A Stanford University study over many years found that people with strong social support recovered 50 % faster
from emotional difficulties than those who were isolated. Surprisingly, online
communication through video calls was 80 % as effective as face-to-face meetings in recent tests.
Methods to Change Negative Thoughts
How we view difficulties shapes our mental resilience. Psychologists suggest
changing extreme negative ideas like “I can’t handle this” into positive views such as “This is hard but possible.” 2022 study found that daily gratitude practice lowers

B .Creative activities like painting unexpectedly better stress tolerance.
C .Workplace culture significantly impacts employees’ stress management.
D .This natural process helps maintain stable emotions and enhanced clear thinking.
E .Moreover, actively noticing small daily successes helps develop positive thinking.

Don’t Rush Through Books
I love books. I love reading. I do it as much as I can. I tell people they should do the same. But when I hear that people are using apps to try to read more in less time, I just shake my head. Guys, you’re doing it wrong! Reading is like eating, dating, and travelling. The whole point is that it’s pleasurable and meaningful. 56
Unfortunately, reading always falls victim to seeking productivity shortcuts.
People may rush through books over dinner table to save ten minutes but willingly fly across the country for a three-day conference where nothing gets accomplished.
Actually, such an act tends to be penny wise and pound foolish. 57 Simply put:
You don’t need to squeeze reading into the in-between moments of your life; you need to squeeze out the non-essentials and make reading, and reading well, the
priority.
Once on a flight, I was surrounded by businessmen — the type of people who would say things like “I’m too busy to read”. And what were they doing on this
flight Watching videos, texting, or chatting. I was the only one reading. In two and a half hours, I got all the way through the book. But it wasn’t finishing a book that
mattered. 58 The book was about a man’s attempt to retract Coronado’s
expedition on horseback. I was transported from that plane to the desert. I was fully

engaged.
We have to remember: we don’t get a prize at the end of life for having rushed through as many books as possible. Remember: quality over quantity. Always,
59 The time you spend reading them, the time you carved out and gave to the process — that’s what you’ll remember at the end of your life. That is the prize.
60 They don’t fit it in between other tasks they make it the priority. And from that, everything follows: the more you read, the better you get, and the more you want to read. They don’t rush. They savor. And so should you.
A .It was those quiet, reflective hours.
B .You’re not supposed to rush through it.
C .Never miss the chance to win the prize.
D .It doesn’t matter how much you end up reading.
E .All great readers share one rule: they value reading.
F .When I am reading, I feel like someone else understands me.
G .What really needs changing is not reading speed but daily priorities.

In our household, preparing dinner has always been a shared responsibility.
From the moment my siblings and I could safely handle a kitchen tool, we were given age-appropriate tasks. Younger children set the table, while older ones cut vegetables or mixed things in pots. I’ve benefited a lot from the experiences. 61
Cooking together wasn’t optional; it was how our family operated. 62 However, we never doubted its necessity. Each person’s role, whether small or large, kept our evenings running smoothly. Once, my brother forgot to check the rice
cooker, leaving us with half-cooked grains. That night, we all understood: skipping tasks meant delays or disappointment for everyone.
As a child, I saw cooking as just another duty. 63 When everyone
contributes, no one feels invisible. A missing fork reminded us that each person’s
effort — or lack of it — shaped our collective experience. I still remember my
grandmother’s smile when I surprised her by mastering her recipe. Her pride showed

me that cooking could silently say, “You matter.”
64 Laughter filled the kitchen as we shared school stories or debated music tastes while cutting onions. My father’s silly jokes during vegetable
preparations or my sister’s failed attempts at turning over pancakes turned cooking into precious moments. What felt like work transformed into a daily highlight,
combining responsibility with joy.
Beyond family unity, cooking taught life skills. 65 Handling kitchen
mistakes developed patience, and sharing tasks encouraged teamwork. These lessons extended beyond the kitchen, shaping how I approach challenges in school and
friendships. Truly, a simple meal can prepare one for life.
A .Cooking together became enjoyable in my family.
B .Homework must be done before the meal was ready.
C .These lessons were actually taught by my family members.
D .Here I’d like to share my understandings about cooking in my family.
E .Planning menus improved creativity, while timing dishes required focus.

A Community Garden Brings People Together
Tired of the dull gray of the city, some residents in our community decided to take action. They transformed an empty lot into a vibrant garden. 66 It is a place where people connect with nature and each other.
The garden is divided into small plots. Families and individuals can apply to
grow their own vegetables and flowers. 67 “I never thought I’d enjoy getting my hands dirty so much,” said Mr. Davis, a retired teacher. “Seeing the seeds I
planted grow into healthy plants gives me a great sense of achievement.”

Every day, we speak to and spend time with the people who mean the most to
us. However, think about how many people you interact with in a typical week are the ones you wouldn’t consider as close connections. 76 . In sociology, these are known as our “weak ties”, referred to as such to differentiate them from our strong
ties, like close friends and family members.
77 . For example, if you spoke about your job hunt to a group of close friends, they might only be aware of the same job opportunities as you because you move in the same circles. However, mentioning it to an acquaintance, like a regular waiter, connects you to people outside your own social circle, which can provide

unexpected job opportunities.
“Weak ties can serve special functions not served by close ties, including providing access to unique information and resources,” says Susan Sprecher,
distinguished professor at Illinois State University. “Additionally, many people interact with more weak ties throughout a day than they do with close ties.
78 ”
Indeed, weak ties can give us a real mental health boost. A recent study done by Sprecher indicated people with wider connections of weak ties tend to be happier.
79 . They reported feeling more happiness and greater feelings of belonging on days when they interacted with more classmates than usual.
Given they have such a strong impact on our lives, why not create weak ties 80 . Often, this will mean going outside and speaking to people, whether it’s those you pass in the street, who serve you in shops, or with whom you share a class.

release. In hot, damp conditions, sweating fails to cool the body, potentially causing heat exhaustion or a sudden serious illness, which can lead to nerve-related problems.
Extreme heat also worsens mental health: conditions like depression and anxiety become worse 83 Furthermore, the medicines used to treat the mental illness
and sleeplessness also appear to increase mental health weakness to heat.
84 Those with existing mental health disorders are weakest. Older adults face accelerated serious mental illness that affects memory. Homeless individuals and outdoor workers such as farmers are particularly at risk, as they often lack access to
cooling resources.
Action is urgent. Most heat health plans ignore mental health. 85 These can include public awareness campaigns, such as warning people about the mental
health risk of consuming alcohol or other drugs during heat waves. Other
interventions include establishing community cooling shelters for heat emergencies and increasing monitoring of mental health patients during heat waves. Only through comprehensive strategies can we reduce the mental health impacts of extreme heat.

C .How to identify those in danger during heat waves
D .It disturbs sleep, which further harms one’s ability to think.
E .So mental health steps must be added to these heat response plans.
F .Heat waves cause 1,300 U. S. deaths yearly from heat-related issues.
