discover 发现 指发现某种自然界本来已存在,但以前未被人类发现或认识的事物,如煤、铁、石油或科学真理等 It’s exciting to discover traces of earlier civilizations.发现以前文明的遗迹,真令人兴奋。
invent 发明;创造 指创造出原来自然界不存在的东西,其对象往往是物质性的,尤指科技上的发明创造,如电灯、汽车、电视机等 Franklin invent the lighting rod.富兰克林发明了避雷针。
