Personal growth doesn’t necessarily only happen when the conditions are perfect. Seeds tend to develop only when
conditions are right. A seed will remain dormant (休眠) until moisture (湿) and temperature are favorable for growth.
Unfortunately, as humans, we don’t always have the luxury of growing when conditions are just right. Sometimes you
must cultivate (培育) personal growth and flower where you’re planted, often in spite of external circumstances.
For much of my life, I let external circumstances control my happiness. If things weren’t going well, then I wasn’t
well. I told myself that I would be happier if conditions were right. With this mindset, I gave myself permission to stay
emotionally dormant. I was waiting for things around me to change before I would do the work to become a better
version of myself. In other words, I made my personal growth conditional on external circumstances.
The problem with waiting for change outside of yourself is that you might have to wait a very long time, maybe
even forever. And if you stay dormant while waiting, you aren’t growing. You’re simply stuck in place. You certainly
aren’t becoming the better version of yourself that you want to be.
If you want to engage in personal growth, like planting seeds, you have to do some work to make it happen. You
can’t wait around for everything to fall into place. Start with pulling up your emotional weeds. Examine yourself and
remove the pessimistic thoughts and behaviors that are holding you back. Then, work on the foundation that you have.
Practice positive life habits that build your self-respect and happiness.
Personal growth is something you can fight for. It may not come naturally, but when you develop this mindset, you
will flower no matter where you’re planted.
24. What does the author intend to highlight in the first paragraph
A. The influence of external circumstances. B. The need to achieve personal growth in all cases.
C. The lack of perfect conditions for growth. D. The cost of waiting for the right conditions.
25. Which of the following affected the author’s growth most in the past
A. The positive life habits. B. The outside circumstances.
C. The personal experiences. D. The will to improve himself.
26. What does the author suggest to better yourself
A. Look for the right conditions. B. Get emotionally prepared for failures.
C. Stop waiting and take action. D. Keep yourself pure through gardening.
27. What is the best title for the text
A. Happiness: You Are Your Own Master
B. Life Journey: Carry on till Efforts Bear Fruits
C. Personal Growth: Flower Where You’re Planted
D. Life Changes: The Chance Is in Your Possession

Researchers in Switzerland have integrated chips and sensors into socks to help people who suffer from diabetes
symptoms (糖尿病症状)—long-term pain and a loss of feeling in the feet. About half of the world’s 560 million diabetes
patients experience nerve (神经) damage in the lower leg. This damage affects the nerves and prevents the brain from
receiving sensory signals from the feet. That not only makes walking difficult but also amplifies the risk of falling.
英语 总 8 页 第 3 页
The smart sock uses painless electrical signals to provide personalized treatment. It works by sending signals to
specific nerve pathways and restoring feeling in the feet. This could potentially remove the need for the strong
painkillers usually used for this condition, while also boosting users’ confidence when they move around.
A research team from ETH Zurich is behind this breakthrough. Over the past five years, they have developed this
solution using smart fabrics and AI. The sock has pressure sensors on the bottom to map how pressure is spread while
walking. A small computer in the upper part of the sock then turns this information into electrical signals. Electrodes (电
极) in the fabric send these signals directly to healthy parts of the wearer’s nerves, based on the pressure map. This
allows the wearer to feel the ground and reduces nerve pain.
This makes it easier for users to notice where pressure is applied with each step, helping them feel more stable as
they walk. The feedback from activating the nerves could also help prevent missteps and accidental falls.
The sock is not yet on the market. The team has scheduled a long-term study in the coming months. This study will
determine if the sock can significantly improve patients’ walking patterns and if it can partially restore nerve function.
Designed for daily use, the product will be thoroughly tested to see how well it lasts over time.
28. What does the underlined word “amplifies” in paragraph 1 mean
A.Removes. B. Shifts. C. Increases. D. Estimates.
29. What is a key advantage of the smart sock over traditional treatment methods
A. It uses stronger painkillers. B. It might replace strong painkillers.
C. It requires no battery to operate. D. It might focus on curing diabetes
30. Which is the correct order of the working process of the sock
A. Map→send→transform→feel. B. Map→transform→send→feel.
C. Send→map→transform→feel. D. Transform→map→send→feel.
31. What is the research team’s attitude to the sock
A. Careful. B. Subjective. C. Hesitant. D. Emotional

Just as damaged teeth can be replaced with gold crowns (齿冠), scientists are exploring how gold can be used to
repair damaged parts of the brain.
Scientists at Linkoping University in Sweden said that a “brain of gold”might just be what we need to fight nervous
system diseases. The plan is to put gold electrodes (电极) into the affected part of the brain. They will act as “telephone
operators” between nerve cells and electronic medical devices, enabling communication so that the nervous system can
function normally.
Treatment plans that involve connecting medical devices to the brain already exist. However, the electrodes used
are usually made of hard metals, while the brain is like a jelly that “shakes” at the body’s slightest movement.
“As the body is constantly in motion, achieving close contact between something that is hard and something that is
soft and breakable becomes a problem,”explained Klas Tybrandt, one of the scientists.
This is why the Swedish scientists are using a new material called “gold nanowires”(金纳米线). As the name suggests, these are long, extremely thin gold threads — 1,000 times thinner than human hair. By putting them into
rubber, the scientists have successfully created electrodes that are soft enough to connect comfortably with the human
brain.
Gold can be made into structures as small as nanowires. According to Live Science, gold can be stretched, pressed
or even rolled into all kinds of shapes without breaking. What’s more, gold doesn’t react with other chemicals in the
human brain, making it a safe choice. Once placed in the brain, gold nanowires can last for at least three years, which is
longer than many materials currently in use.
32. What role will gold electrodes play in treating nervous system diseases
A. Replacing damaged nerve cells. B. Activating different brain regions.
C. Serving as a communication link. D. Protecting the brain’s unaffected parts.
33. What can we learn about gold nanowires
A. They are harder than rubber. B. They can be placed into the brain.
C. They are as thin as human hair. D. They are in the final stage of development.
34. Why is gold a safe choice for use in the brain
A. It can be stretched by the brain. B. It can be made into various shapes.
英语 总 8 页 第 4 页
C. It is being used to create soft electrodes. D. It has no negative impact on the brain’s functions.
35. What is the main idea of the passage
A. The potential use of gold in nervous system treatment.
B. The history of gold use in the medical field.
C. The current applications of gold in the brain.
D.The unique properties of gold nanowires. 第二节 (共 5 小题;每小题 2.5 分,满分 12.5 分)

There is a peaceful moment that washes over you when you step into a forest. 36 Li and Gary Evans,
director of the Forest Bathing Institute in the U. K. , talk to Life Kit about the science behind forest bathing and how you
can obtain the health benefits.
The ideal place to forest bathe is in a natural forest. But if you live far away from one, any place that has a lot of
trees and quiet spaces will do. 37 A 2022 study found that walking in a forest had a greater impact on
cardiovascular (心血管的) function than doing so in an urban park.
“To gain the rewards of forest bathing, plan to spend two to six hours in the woods,” says Li. 38
If you can’t set aside a good part of your day to wander in a forest, you can also do shorter walks.
Your forest bathing session is a good time to walk or do some gentle activities such as yoga and tai chi.
39 “The difference between normal activities and forest bathing is that we’re going to move very slowly,” says
Evans. Forest bathing is about calming you down, reducing your heart rate and blood pressure.
When you get to the forest or the park, find a spot that could be a clearing in the woods surrounded by a bunch of
tall trees. 40 “Inhale (吸气) for a count of one, two and then exhale (呼气) for double the length of time. Then
keep that going.”This particular breathing exercise has been shown to have benefits outside of the forest environment.
A. You can do sports like hiking or jogging.
B. It’s not the time to do hard exercises like running or weight training.
C. But they won’t be as significant as walking in the deep woods.
D. Sit down and slow down your breathing.
E. Not only is “forest bathing” a way to explore nature, it’s good for your health.
F. It simply connects with our sense of sight, hearing, taste, smell and touch.
G. According to his research, forest bathing for that amount of time help promote the well-being.

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
I was a single mother in my thirties who lived down and out with my daughter Peggy in a small apartment,
struggling hard to make our ends meet.
One day I headed to the downtown for an interview. I sat down in the street car and there, against the seat, was a
beautiful silk umbrella with a silver handle decorated with gold scrolls, among which there was a name card. On
impulse(冲动), I determined to find the owner myself.
I got off the streetcar in the heavy rain and thankfully opened the umbrella to protect myself. Then I searched a
telephone book for the name. I found it immediately and called it, waiting patiently. Then a lady answered. “Yes,” she
said in surprise, with extreme excitement, “it was my umbrella which had been stolen a year ago.”
So appealing was her pleasure that I forgot I was looking for a job and went directly to her small house. She took
the umbrella with teary eyes, explaining in a choking voice that the umbrella was given by her parents, who were now
dead. Her happiness at retrieving(找回) this special possession was such that to have accepted her reward would have
spoiled something, so I refused her offer and left.
The following months were hard. I could only obtain temporary employment for a small salary. What was worse, I
had just lost my last job before Christmas, with only fifteen dollars left. Unless a miracle happened, I would be homeless
in January, foodless and jobless. I had prayed steadily for weeks, and there had been no answer but this coldness and
darkness.
The air was full of Christmas merriment, with the bells ringing and the children shouting. The bitter dark of evening
closed in, but there should be no Christmas for me, I knew—no gifts, no remembrance whatsoever. Thinking of this, I
couldn’t control my tears on my way home, but I managed a smile so I could greet my little daughter.
She opened the door for me and threw herself in my arms, screaming joyfully and desiring her Christmas gift. There
I stood, frozen overwhelmed by misery.

【写作第一节】
The Person I Admire Most
When it comes to the person I admire the most, I can’t help thinking of Fan Jinshi who is an archaeologist and a guard of
Dunhuang.
After graduating from Peking University, Fan Jinshi chose to work in Mogao Caves, Dunhuang, which lies deep in the
Gobi Desert. Although the living environment was terrible, she was deeply attracted by the works of art and desired to protect
them for the future generations. She and her team overcame difficulties, explored scientific concepts and built a “digital
Dunhuang”, which has balanced the relationship between cultural relics protection and tourism.
Fan Jinshi is called the daughter of Dunhuang. She deserves the respect of all at home and abroad.
【写作第二节】
Paragraph 1:
Suddenly the doorbell rang, and Peggy rushed to answer it, calling that it must be Santa Claus. Then I heard a man talking
heartily to her and went to the door. It was a delivery man, and his arms were full of parcels. “This is a mistake,” I said, but he
read the name on the parcels and they were for me. When he had gone, I didn’t know what to do. Later Peggy and I sat on the
floor looking at each other. What a surprise! I looked for the name of the sender.
Paragraph 2:
Suddenly a note attached to one package caught my eyes. I picked up the note, which read, “Thanks for returning the
umbrella. Merry Christmas.” It was sent by the lady. Holding the note tightly, I was on the verge of tears, with a warm stream
spreading through my body. On that cold Christmas, I forgot I had no money for the rent and only fifteen dollars in my pocket.
We just sat in our small apartment unwrapping the gifts one by one in happiness. A sweet peace flooded me like a blessing,
which made me hopeful again.

M: So, what happened Were they the wrong size or you don’t like the color
W: Not this time. When I got home and I took them out of the box, I saw one of them had a big black mark on the side.
M: That’s awful. I hope you took them back to the shop.
W: Of course, I did. But the sales refused to return my money. So I found the manager and told him about what had happened.
He told me that as a rule, they would always return someone’s money or change another pair, but that wasn’t possible this time
because they were on sale. M: Oh, I can’t believe it.

【原文】M: Hello, Gloria! You’ re not looking happy. What’s the matter Have you been studying too much
W: Oh, no, that’s not it. The problem is that I was planning to go home over spring break, but the travel agent told me all the
airlines are fully booked. M: Why not go by car
W: It’s too long a trip to take by myself, and gas is so expensive.
M: Have you checked the ride board Maybe you can get a rider to go with you.
W: The ride board What’s that
M: It’s a notice board that has a map of the United States on it. The map is divided into different districts, and each district has a different number. Say you want to go to New England — that would be Box Number One. There are boxes for each number.
You can put a white card or a blue card in one of the boxes.
W: What’s the difference between a blue card and a white one
M: Blue means you have a car and need riders to share the driving. White means that you’ re looking for a ride.
W: Sounds good. So where is the ride board
M: It’s on the second floor of the Student Union building, right by the cinema of the college.

【原文】Do you get angry when your friends sing loudly while you are trying to study Or when your best friend does not wait for you after school If you do, you need to take control of your feelings and stop getting angry so easily. Getting angry with
people can cause you to lose friends.
Allen Ribet, an American high school teacher, has written a book to help you control your feelings. It tells you how to
keep cool when bad things happen to you. The book says that getting angry only makes problems worse. It can never make
them better. Getting angry is not a natural way to show your feelings. The book says, “All you have to do is to tell yourself not
to be angry.” When a baby falls over, it only cries if people are watching it. Like a baby, you should get angry only if you are
sure it is the right thing to do.
