Between Shenzhen and Hong Kong, there is a special mangrove wetland. It is very important for birds that travel long distances. Many waterbirds fly from East Asia to Australia every year, and these wetlands are an important place for them to rest and find food.
Mangroves are trees that grow in salt water. They are like natural protectors for the city and the birds. Their roots can make water clean. They also help stop strong storms from hurting the coast. The thick mangrove forests also give birds a safe home. Birds build nests and raise their babies there, even in storms, the little birds are safe. That’s why mangroves are important. Nearby, Shenzhen also has a Nature Reserve. It is home to over 1,200 wild monkeys and about 100,000 migratory birds come every year.
To save and keep the valuable home for birds, Shenzhen and Hong Kong work closely together. In November 2024, the Shenzhen International Mangrove Center opened. It teaches people about mangroves and helps Shenzhen and Hong Kong work better together. It uses technology to help protect birds, and this hard work is helpful! For example, the number of black-faced spoonbills, an endangered bird, is getting bigger. Thirty years ago, there were only about 300 of these birds. Now, there are nearly 7,000! The Wetland Education Center in Shenzhen Bay Park also lets people learn about nature through fun activities like workshops and bird watching.

What memories do you have of your grandparents How do you keep the memories of your loved ones
On my 56th birthday, my daughter Beth gave me two beautiful wooden butterflies. I hung them on the wall so that I could admire (钦佩) them all day. They carried our memories.
My mum passed away when I was 25, and Beth was just a baby. She never got to meet her grandma, which made it hard for me to keep my mum's memory alive for Beth. One day, when Beth was 7, we were playing outside, and she suddenly said how much she missed her grandma.
I told her that her grandma loved her very much and that she was watching over her from heaven (天堂). I even said that maybe she was taking a ride on the back of a butterfly to get a closer look. At that moment, a butterfly just showed up out of nowhere, flew around Beth’s face, and then flew away. We both laughed happily.
Since then, it seems like butterflies follow us wherever we go. Whenever we are outside, they come down, circle us, take a good look and fly away. It feels like my mum’s love is still watching over us through the butterflies. Even in winter, I can take comfort in looking at the wooden butterflies that Beth gave me and think of my mum’s love.
The wooden butterflies have become a symbol of our bond (纽带). They remind us of the moment when a butterfly brought us together and filled our hearts with happiness. And even now, they continue (继续) bringing us closer to the woman who holds a special place in our hearts.
12.Why does the writer ask two questions in paragraph 1

C.To see if her feelings are the same as the reader’s. D.To show she has no memories of her grandparents.

A. B. C. D.
