The weather is getting hotter. You are thirsty after playing basketball or riding home from school. A cold drink may be just the thing. But be careful about what you are drinking. Something that looks cool may not be good for your health.
There are plenty of “energy drinks” on the market. Most of them have beautiful colours and cool names. The lists on them tell you they are helpful. Sounds great! But after a careful check , you may find that most energy drinks have lots of caffeine (咖啡因) in them. These drinks are especially sold to young people , busy people and sports players. Makers sometimes say their drinks make you better at sports and can keep you awake. But be careful not to drink too much.
Caffeine makes your heart beat fast. Because of this , the International Olympic Committee has limited its use. Caffeine in most energy drinks is at least as strong as that in a cup of coffee or tea . Possible health dangers have something to do with energy drinks. Just one box of energy drink can make you nervous , have difficulty in sleeping and can even cause heart problems. Scientists say that teenagers should be stopped from taking drinks with a lot of caffeine in them.
So we should stay away from the energy drinks to keep healthy.

When you make a mistake or say something wrong , it's easy to be hard on yourself. With self-compassion , you can be a friend to yourself instead.
What is self-compassion?
Compassion is a strong feeling of sympathy for people who are suffering and a desire to help them . Self-compassion is giving yourself that care and kindness . Sometimes being kind to yourself can help when you mess up or when you 're struggling to do something new. Dr Kristin Neff, author of several books on the subject , lists three elements(要素) of self-compassion: being kind to yourself, understanding that everyone struggles sometimes and noticing your feelings.
Why is self-compassion important?
Self-compassion can reduce stress , build confidence and ease pain . When you're kind to yourself, you relax , and you're able to think more clearly and see a way forward. Suzy Reading is a psychologist who says self-compassion helps you be your own friend and feel at peace. Self-compassion enables you to forgive yourself when you make mistakes , helping you learn and grow. Just as you would be kind to a friend who made a mistake , self-compassion helps you to be a friend to yourself.
How can you practise self-compassion?
There are many ways to be kind to yourself. Remind yourself that everyone messes up or struggles sometimes. Notice how you're speaking to yourself. Talk to yourself using kind words. “Try calling yourself a pet name and see how that helps you choose softer words ,” Suzy says. “This is important when you are having a hard time. Kind words help us find solutions and lighten our load.” Try to find out the feelings you 're experiencing. When you feel upset , you might feel angry , disappointed or anxious. Name the feeling and tell yourself it's OK for you to feel this way. Think about how to take care of yourself physically too. Give yourself a hug , go for a walk , take a few slow and deep breaths or draw a picture.

But after a careful check, you may find that most energy drinks have lots of caffeine(咖啡因) in them. These drinks are especially sold to young people, busy people and sports players. Makers sometimes say their drinks make you better at sports and can keep you awake. But be careful not to drink too much.
Caffeine makes your heart beat fast. Because of this, the International Olympic Committee has limited its use. Caffeine in most energy drinks is at least as strong as that in a cup of coffee or tea. Possible health dangers have something to do with energy drinks. Just one box of energy drink can make you nervous, have difficulty in sleeping and can even cause heart problems. Scientists say that teenagers should be stopped from taking drinks with a lot of caffeine in them.
So we should stay away from the energy drinks to keep healthy.

Last Saturday, I went to a coffee shop to meet a friend of mine. I got there ten minutes earlier. So I ordered a cup of coffee and sat by the window watching people. There were some boys playing football on the street, and a small boy was running after the ball as it rolled across the road.
Suddenly, there came a car. It was going very fast. When the driver saw the boy in his way, he braked hard. But it was too late. The small boy was lying on the street without moving. To everyone’s surprise, the car didn’t stop. It drove away quickly.
People ran to the boy. There was a cut on the boy’s head and he lost a lot of blood. The coffee shop owner called the police. Soon an ambulance arrived and took the boy to the hospital. At 6:30 p.m., the police arrived and started questioning people. About half an hour later, they asked me to go to the police station because I saw everything. I gave them all the information I knew because I really wanted them to catch the driver. I didn’t leave the police station until 8:00 p.m. After that I went home because I didn’t want to talk to anyone.

When you make a mistake or say something wrong, it’s easy to be hard on yourself. With self-compassion, you can be a friend to yourself instead.
Compassion is a strong feeling of sympathy for people who are suffering and a desire to help them. Self-compassion is giving yourself that care and kindness. Sometimes being kind to yourself can help when you mess up or when you’re struggling to do something new. Dr Kristin Neff, author of several books on the subject, lists three elements(要素) of self-compassion: being kind to yourself, understanding that everyone struggles sometimes and noticing your feelings.
What is self-compassion?
Why is self-compassion important?
Self-compassion can reduce stress, build confidence and ease pain. When you’re kind to yourself, you relax, and you’re able to think more clearly and see a way forward. Suzy Reading is a psychologist who says self-compassion helps you be your own friend and feel at peace. Self-compassion enables you to forgive yourself when you make mistakes, helping you learn and grow. Just as you would be kind to a friend who made a mistake, self-compassion helps you to be a friend to yourself.
How can you practise self-compassion?
There are many ways to be kind to yourself. Remind yourself that everyone messes up or struggles sometimes. Notice how you’re speaking to yourself. Talk to yourself using kind words. “Try calling yourself a pet name and see how that helps you choose softer words,” Suzy says. “This is important when you are having a hard time. Kind words help us find solutions and lighten our load.” Try to find out the feelings you’re experiencing. When you feel upset, you might feel angry, disappointed or anxious. Name the feeling and tell yourself it’s OK for you to feel this way. Think about how to take care of yourself physically too. Give yourself a hug, go for a walk, take a few slow and deep breaths or draw a picture.

Last Saturday , I went to a coffee shop to meet a friend of mine. I got there ten minutes earlier. So I ordered a cup of coffee and sat by the window watching people. There were some boys playing football on the street , and a small boy was running after the ball as it rolled across the road.
Suddenly , there came a car. It was going very fast. When the driver saw the boy in his way , he braked hard. But it was too late. The small boy was lying on the street without moving. To everyone 's surprise , the car didn 't stop. It drove away quickly.
People ran to the boy. There was a cut on the boy's head and he lost a lot of blood. The coffee shop owner called the police. Soon an ambulance arrived and took the boy to the hospital. At 6:30 p.m. , the police arrived and started questioning people. About half an hour later , they asked me to go to the police station because I saw everything. I gave them all the information I knew because I really wanted them to catch the driver. I didn't leave the police station until 8 :00 p.m. After that I went home because I didn't want to talk to anyone.
