What do you think of a “talking kitchen”? The French Digital
Kitchen has been developed at Newcastle University in the UK. It teaches
students how to cook French food and speak French at the same time. For the
first time, students can learn the language by the following cooking steps.

All grammar and ▲ have been carefully chosen to make sure the
users can understand French well. After learning for some time, the users

back and repeats the recipe or information. At any time, the users can ask
the kitchen to repeat the recipe or any information.
The new kitchen can be used in schools and even people’s homes. The
researchers can also develop the European Digital Kitchen.

During the Jin Dynasty, there lived a man named Zhou Chu in Yixing.
In his youth, he liked fighting and was seen as a bad man in the county. At
that time, a dangerous dragon in the river and a bad tiger in the mountains
of Yixing often injured people.

People called them and Zhou Chu “the three evils”, with Zhou Chu
being the most harmful. Later, someone advised Zhou Chu to kill the tiger
in the mountains and the dragon in the river.
Zhou Chu went to the mountains alone and indeed killed the tiger. Then
he jumped into the river to fight the dragon. The dragon thrashed in the
water, swimming tens of li, with Zhou Chu following closely after it.

After three days and nights, people thought Zhou Chu was dead. They
were happy and cheered. Surprisingly, Zhou Chu killed the dragon, came
out of the water, and returned. Hearing the villagers celebrate his death,
he realized he was thought of as one of Yixing’s evils.
He made his decision to be a good man. And he asked a wise man for
help. He told Lu Yun, the wise man, the truth and showed his wish to
correct his mistakes and make a fresh start, but he was afraid that he was
too old to reach anything.

Lu Yun encouraged him by saying, “The ancients would be happy
even if they came to really understand the truth in the early morning but died
at night, let alone you with a promising future. Why do you worry that you
won’t achieve your dream?”
Then Zhou Chu quickly and completely corrected his mistakes and made

四、 任务型阅读。(共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分) ★★
Coping with school test stress
At this time of year, many kids are busy getting ready for exams. In
England, Year 6 students take important tests called SATs (which stand for
Standard Assessment Tests) in May. It’s common to feel stressed then—
almost everyone gets a little worried before a test, and that’s okay.

Why do we take tests? Tests help teachers see how much you’ve
learned and understood. For example, SATs are big for primary
schoolkids. They check your skills in English and maths. These tests show
how well you’re doing in your studies, and they also let the government
make sure schools are teaching properly.

Why do tests make you worried? Laura Gwilt, a child psychologist
(心理学家) who knows about how the brain works, says, “Feeling
stressed about exams is totally normal. It means you care about doing well
and your future. If you say ‘I’m worried because this matters’, those
feelings get easier to deal with. Naming them helps control them!” And
remember that you’re not alone. Most of your friends are probably feeling
nervous too.

Try to stay positive. Even if it’s hard, keeping a good attitude(态
度) helps. Instead of thinking “I’m going to fail”, tell yourself “I’ve
prepared as much as I can, and I’ll do my best”. Changing your thoughts
like this builds up confidence. Before the test, try to relax by taking deep
breaths or by tensing and then relaxing your muscles(肌肉).

Be kind to yourself when you’re stressed. Don’t compare yourself to
others. Write down all the good things you’ve done this year—it’ll improve
your confidence before the test. Tests are not easy, but with these steps,
you can deal with the stress.
根据短文内容,按要求完成下列各题。

1. 根据短文内容填空。
It’s common that before a test almost everyone .

Dear Li Hua,
How is everything going? My life is in a mess. At home, I’m having
trouble talking to my parents. I really want to take up a hobby in my free

  I understand how you feel!

First of all, why don’t you share
your feelings with your parents calmly? Tell them hobbies help you
relax so that you can study better. If you promise to finish homework
first, they might agree.

Yours,
Li Hua
As for math, whenever you find it difficult, ask your math
teacher or classmates. I find it helpful to review notes every day.
Besides, you could join a study group—not only can you learn from
others, but you can also make friends!
To sleep better, why not read a book instead of using phones?
Everything will be better if you try hard! Believe in yourself!

Coping with school test stress
At this time of year , many kids are busy getting ready for exams. In England , Year 6 students take important tests called SATs (which stand for Standard Assessment Tests) in May. It’s common to feel stressed then— almost everyone gets a little worried before a test , and that’s okay.
Why do we take tests? Tests help teachers see how much you’ve learned and understood. For example , SATs are big for primary schoolkids. They check your skills in English and maths. These tests show how well you’re doing in your studies , and they also let the government make sure schools are teaching properly.
Why do tests make you worried? Laura Gwilt , a child psychologist (心理学家) who knows about how the brain works , says , “Feeling stressed about exams is totally normal. It means you care about doing well and your future. If you say ‘I’m worried because this matters ’, those
feelings get easier to deal with. Naming them helps control them! ”And remember that you’re not alone. Most of your friends are probably feeling nervous too.
Try to stay positive. Even if it’s hard , keeping a good attitude(态度) helps. Instead of thinking “I’m going to fail ”, tell yourself “I’ve prepared as much as I can , and I’ll do my best ”. Changing your thoughts like this builds up confidence. Before the test , try to relax by taking deep breaths or by tensing and then relaxing your muscles(肌肉).
Be kind to yourself when you’re stressed. Don’t compare yourself to others. Write down all the good things you’ve done this year—it’ll improve your confidence before the test. Tests are not easy , but with these steps,
you can deal with the stress.

Dear Tom,
I understand how you feel! First of all , why don’t you share your feelings with your parents calmly? Tell them hobbies help you relax so that you can study better. If you promise to finish homework first , they might agree.
As for math , whenever you find it difficult , ask your math teacher or classmates. I find it helpful to review notes every day.
Besides , you could join a study group—not only can you learn from others , but you can also make friends!
To sleep better , why not read a book instead of using phones?
