A good story contains different feelings.
Language points
1. After our ship crashed against the rocks, I swam as far as I could. (page 50, lines 1–2)
(1) Here “crash” means “to hit sth hard while moving, causing noise and/or damage”.
e.g. 门猛地打开,撞在墙上。
(2) Here “as far as” means “to the distance, extent or degree”.
e.g. 他们不如其他人走得远。
The door swung open and crashed against the wall.
They didn’t go as far as the others.
2. My arms, legs and hair were tied to the ground! (page 50, line 6)
Here “tie” means “attach (someone or something) to something with a
string, rope, etc.”.
e.g. 她把狗绑在柱子上,然后走进商店。
She tied the dog to a post and went into the shop.

3. He was just the same size as my middle finger! (page 50, lines 9–10)
“The same size as” is typically used to compare two objects or entities in terms of size. Here it means “as small as”.
e.g. 这个星球和地球差不多大。
This planet is basically the same size as Earth.

4. However, they soon got up again and continued moving across my body. (page 50, lines 13–14)
Here “continue” means “go on without stopping or start again something
that one has begun”.
e.g. 她生完小孩后,又继续回到工作岗位。
She continued working after she had her baby.

Here “either” means “something like ‘likewise’ or ‘also’, used in negative
sentences”.
e.g. 你不来,她也不会来。
If you don’t come, she won’t come either.

I have not read this book, and my brother has not either.

6. I looked down and saw a huge army of tiny people. (page 51, lines 19–20)
Here “army” means “a large group of people who are involved in a particular
activity”.
