Patience is a virtue because it cultivates inner strength and sound judgment. In a world that often feels rushed and demanding, the ability to wait calmly and tolerate delays really empowers us to make clear-headed decisions. 19(2分) Thus it can prevent us from making choices in a hurry that could have negative consequences.
With patience, we’re able to handle challenges with a level head. It helps us to focus on long-term goals rather than short-term setbacks. Things can’t always go according to plan. 20(2分) It gives us the strength and determination to remain optimistic. Cultivating patience allows us to appreciate the process of growth and helps us handle difficulties with grace.
21(2分) But we can remain calm, peaceful, and happy regardless. Patience plays its most important role in our interactions with people. With patience, we don’t explode at people easily. We work on gathering more information and looking for a solution instead.
Another important key to patience is gratitude. Instead of focusing on what we want right now, we focus on being grateful for what we already have. When we are grateful for what we have, we improve our ability to be patient. 22(2分) If you resist this, you suffer. That suffering creates more impatience. But if you accept that one of the guarantees of life is change, you will relax.
Patience is being present, examining your options, and working to move forward. If things work out, then great. But if they don’t, then we try something else. It’s just that simple. There is so much good in developing the virtue of patience. It takes work, it takes effort, but there are so many benefits of developing patience.
A.It’s necessary to make early plans.
B.However, we must realize that life changes.
C.This promotes a great sense of achievement.
D.Patience may not always give us what we want.
E.Being patient helps us avoid acting out of anger.
F.Patience improves our ability to deal with frustration.
G.With patience, you will find life flows more beautifully.
[6分]Top Sites for Meteor (流星) Shower Watching
For astronomy enthusiasts, meteor showers are a breathtaking sight. Choosing the right observation site is key to a successful experience. Here are four recommended locations across China for watching meteor showers.
Mohe County, Heilongjiang
Known as “China’s Arctic Town,” Mohe offers extremely dark skies due to its remote northern location and low population density. The cold, clear nights and minimal light pollution provide exceptional viewing conditions. Advance booking for accommodation in peak seasons is essential.
Ngari Prefecture, Xizang
Located on the Xizang Plateau at an average altitude of over 4,500 meters, Ngari is an ideal spot for watching the Geminid meteor shower in December. The high altitude and absence of city lights make stars and meteors appear remarkably bright. Adaptation to the high altitude for a couple of days before observing is strongly advised.
Sahara Desert Camp, Inner Mongolia
This area features vast open spaces and dry weather, which is particularly recommended for viewing the Quadrantid meteor shower in early January. The desert environment ensures wide, unobstructed horizons. The camps provide heated circular tents to ensure comfort against the freezing desert night temperatures.
Mountaintop in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, Hunan
While more humid, the high peaks here often rise above low clouds and mist. This site is suitable for observing the Lyrid meteor shower in April, when the moon is less bright. The unique karst landscape adds a magical backdrop to the night sky. Access to the prime viewing spots after sunset requires special park permission.
Each location has its own advantages based on seasons, meteor shower types, and geographical conditions. Planning ahead for weather and moon phases is always advised.
What makes Mohe County an ideal place to watch the meteor shower
A.Its name as “China’s Arctic Town”.
B.Its dark skies with little light pollution.
C.Its faraway location and small population.
D.Its convenient booking for accommodation.
Which site offers special facilities to address the challenge of its environment
A.Mohe County, Heilongjiang. B.Ngari Prefecture, Xizang.
C.Sahara Desert Camp, Inner Mongolia. D.Mountaintop in Zhangjiajie, Hunan.
What is a common suggestion for all meteor shower watching plans
A.Choosing places with high peaks.
B.Avoiding seasons with cold or hot weather.
C.Looking for sites with bright city lights nearby.
D.Checking weather and moon phases in advance.
[8分]Mindful eating doesn’t come naturally to me. I’d developed the habit of doing several things at once, like eating and reading. It felt like dead time not to use the opportunity to kill two birds with one stone. I’ve been guilty of eating a really healthy diet - while barely noticing it.
It took an 11-year-old to truly show me what eating mindfully looks like. Many years ago, when my daughter came home after her first day at secondary school, I fired a flow of questions at her: “Did I you make new friends ”, “Were the teachers nice ” Entirely focusing on a cheese sandwich, she looked at me pointedly, “Mummy, I’ll tell you all about it in a bit. I just want to enjoy eating this sandwich quietly.” So I bit my lip and watched her close her eyes, smile and “Mmmm” as she chewed. It was a sharp contrast to how I ate my lunch.
We’re so used to reducing time that we’ve downgraded eating to something to be squeezed (挤压) in while we’re doing something else. Our grab-and-go culture encourages eating in a rush — the quicker the better. All too often, we end up wolfing down a few biscuits between calls as something to keep us going. But there’s a huge downside to our disconnected eating. When you don’t fully experience your food, you don’t pay attention to whether you’re hungry or not — or full or not.
Our social media feeds are flooded with healthy recipes and there’s no end of focus on the quality of our food. But there’s comparatively little focus on how we eat it — and actually that makes all the difference. So, let’s turn our attention to eating slowly, mindfully and with enjoyment. Here’s a challenge for you: Can you practice eating at least one meal a day without any distractions (分心) No smartphone, no TV, no radio, no newspaper, no magazines You might well feel a lot of resistance to it at first ... but keep trying!
What was the author’s initial opinion about multitasking while eating
A.It was a waste of time. B.It worked people to death.
C.It was an efficient time-using way. D.It dragged people from food enjoyment.
What did the author learn from her daughter
A.To fully enjoy simple eating pleasure. B.To maintain independence in growth.
C.To effectively balance work and relaxation. D.To prioritize family over personal activities.
What does disconnected eating lead to
A.Forgetting being on a diet. B.Being particular about food.
C.Addiction to multitask lifestyle. D.Unawareness of hunger and fullness.
What message does the author mainly convey
A.Modern lifestyles need big changes.
B.Technology has bad impacts on dining habits.
C.Enjoying meals attentively enhances well-being.
D.Healthy recipes are more important than eating style.

Floating pieces of Arctic sea ice rolled into complicated patterns as ocean currents carried them south along Greenland’s east coast in spring 2024.The MODIS (中分辨率成像光谱仪) on NASA’s Terra satellite seized a moment of this dizzying journey on June 4, 2024.
Much of the ice has likely drifted a great distance to get to this point. The Fram Strait, connecting the Arctic Ocean with the Greenland Sea, serves as the primary route for sea ice out of the Arctic.
Along the way, it breaks into smaller pieces and starts to melt in warmer ocean waters.“The smaller the floating ice, the more ‘wispy’ the patterns,” said Walt Meier, a sea ice scientist. The small ice pieces may only be meters across—too small to distinguish in MODIS imagery.Their gathering forms the smoke like clouds rising from the water surface.
As the summer wears on, ice will continue to drift out of the Arctic. But in recent years, more of the Arctic Ocean’s sea ice has become too young and thin to make the journey south, noted Angela Bliss, a sea ice scientist at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center.“Historically, when more of the Arctic sea ice survived the summer melt season, growing thicker and older, a larger volume of sea ice would be transported through the Fram Strait,” she said.
Some climate scientists are watching this decreased flow closely. The movement of sea ice and fresh water out of the Arctic is a component of ocean circulation (环流) patterns that distribute heat around the planet. The “global ocean conveyor belt” transports cold water south and warm water north, contributing to climate conditions worldwide.“Less ice and fresh water transport have big impacts on ocean productivity, as well as warming upper ocean temperatures, in the region,” said Bliss.
A 2023 study looking at two decades of related observations found that the East Greenland Current is moving less sea ice through the Fram Strait, primarily due to sea ice thinning. The researchers observed that summertime surface water temperatures off Greenland have risen, in part due to the increased presence of heat absorbing open water.
What does the NASA image mainly show
A.The length of the coastline.
B.The journey to the Arctic.
C.A scene of sea ice movement.
D.A pattern of the Arctic ice.
What does the underlined “wispy” possibly mean
A.Typical. B.Delicate.
C.Evident. D.Similar.
Why are climate scientists monitoring the reduced flow
A.It affects the balance of global heat.
B.It encourages the Arctic Ocean diversity.
C.It leads to the pollution of fresh water.
D.It speeds up the “global ocean conveyor belt”.
What can we know about the changing sea ice in the last paragraph
A.Its theoretical basis.
B.Its economic promise.
C.Its impact on the Fram Strait.
D.Its link with the climate system.
[8分]Any person who’s ever flown a kite has learned the lesson: Once you can get the kite off the ground and high into the air, you’ re more likely to find a steady breeze to keep it high up in the sky. A fledgling wind power industry is taking that lesson to heart.
Flying massive kites 200 meters or more above the ground, companies are using the wind they find there to generate electricity. “It’s cheaper to manufacture, cheaper to transport and also has higher efficiency,” says Florian Bauer, co-CEO and chief technology officer of Kitekraft, a Munich-based company developing a kite power system. The carbon footprint is also much smaller, he says. “If you have all those advantages, why would anyone build a conventional wind turbine (涡轮机) ”
But to become a widespread source of electricity, airborne wind energy, as it’s also called, needs to overcome a number of technological and commercial hurdles. And it will need to demonstrate that it is safe, won’t harm wildlife and won’t create intolerable noise and visual disturbances for neighbors. At the moment, kite power is in its infancy But small versions are already on the market.
In 2025, Hamburg-based SkySails Power became the first company to offer a commercial product. Its production model consists of a soft, steerable kite up to 180 square meters in area. The kite is attached by an 800-meter chain to a ground station contained in a shipping container.
In operation, the kite makes large, graceful figure eights in the sky and powers a ground-based generator capable of an average output of 80 kilowatts — enough to supply electricity to about 60 average US households. That’s small compared with a typical 2.75-megawatt (兆瓦) wind turbine but is similar in scale to many portable industrial diesel generators. The unit is designed for use in remote locations away from the power network.
Eventually, companies want to build larger kites capable of generating megawatts of power. They envision hundreds of kites grouped together on wind farms, providing electricity to the grid.
However, it remains unclear how widely used kite-based wind power will become. Advocates like Bauer are confident that they can solve the engineering and computing problems to make the kites cost-effective.
How does the author present the topic in the first paragraph
A.By defining the concept of kite-based wind power.
B.By contrasting the differences between kite flying and wind power.
C.By explaining how wind power works.
D.By linking a common experience to a new industry.
Why does the author argue that kite power is in its infancy
A.It has not been widely recognized by the public.
B.It is accompanied by limitations in terms of safety.
C.It lacks sufficient promotion to enter the market.
D.It is still under experimentation before wide use.
We can infer that the product of SkySails Power ________.
A.has an output of 2.75 megawatts
B.is equipped with a hard and unsteerable kite
C.is mainly used in areas without power network
D.can supply electricity to hundreds of households
Which of the following is the most suitable title for the text
A.Kite Power: A Promising yet Challenging Energy
B.Advantages of Kite-based Wind Power
C.A Major Breakthrough of Airborne Wind Energy
D.Traditional Wind Turbines: An Outdated Choice

An urgent call came into Ryan’s bar this past March. A newly married woman who had spent the afternoon at the dive beach bar in Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina, couldn’t find her wallet. She didn’t care about her ID, credit cards, or $150 in cash—but her wedding ring was put inside.
Ryan, 42, didn’t like the idea that a theft could have occurred at his place, Ryan’s at Red Dogs. The bar had long served as a sanctuary for the homeless, offering not only hot meals but also job opportunities. In fact, half of his current staff were former homeless individuals to whom he had given a second chance. So he set out to find the wallet.
He spent hours checking recordings from 16 different security cameras, watching the woman’s every step in the bar until she went to sit on a bench outside and left when her ride arrived. Within minutes, a young man in a jacket approached the bench, touched something in his pocket, and walked off. That night Ryan posted a video clip on the bar’s Facebook page.
Instead of exposing the young man’s face to shame him, Ryan chose to post with a question: “Does anyone know this person ”
Within hours, Ryan got a text from 17-year-old Jimmy, who’d heard about the post from his sister. Jimmy admitted having taken the wallet and told Ryan he’d done it because he hadn’t eaten in two days. He said he saw the ring but thought it was fake, so he took the money and threw the wallet off the docks into the ocean. Then he bought a sandwich.
During their phone conversation, Jimmy opened up about his family conflicts and confessed to living in the woods for the past week. Though unable to see the young man directly, Ryan—a father of two with a third child on the way—pieced together Jimmy’s situation from his trembling voice and fragmented explanations.
“This isn’t some hardened criminal,” he insisted. But with the missing ring involved, the situation had become serious: the police investigation could lead to criminal accusations. Determined to help, Ryan vowed to protect the young man who seemed more of a kid than a lawbreaker.

M: Exactly! We really need to balance efficiency with accuracy.
W: Plus, we need to improve ourselves during the process. That’s what matters most in learning.

W: Welcome to Student Life! Today we’re going to talk about setting up a project of student jobs in your school.Having students do different jobs around the school is a great way to prepare them for life in the real world. It encourages them to be responsible and also helps them learn new tasks and gain experience. However, it’s important to get students excited about the project, so the first thing you should do is let students know this project. Get the headmaster to make an announcement explaining the project. OK Then decide on the jobs you want and write out the descriptions of the skills and responsibilities needed for each position. Some typical jobs are Classroom Assistants,Recycling Officers and Computer Assistants. Next, ask students to apply for the jobs. Students should be encouraged to write letters of application for the job they are interested in. This is a great way to practice letter writing skills! And don’t forget, you should make sure that students are guided by a teacher so that they take their responsibilities seriously. A committee then reviews all the applications and gives jobs to the most suitable applicants. Finally, it’s important to get opinions from the students about the project, to find out which jobs are successful and which don’t go so well.
【答案】19.E 20.F 21.D 22.B 23.G
19.上文“In a world that often feels rushed and demanding, the ability to wait calmly and tolerate delays really empowers us to make clear-headed decisions.(在一个常常让人感到匆忙和要求苛刻的世界里,能够冷静等待并容忍延迟的能力,真的赋予了我们做出明智决策的力量。)”
20.前文“With patience, we’re able to handle challenges with a level head. It helps us to focus on long-term goals rather than short-term setbacks. Things can’t always go according to plan.(有了耐心,我们能够以冷静的头脑应对挑战。
21.由下文的转折“But we can remain calm, peaceful, and happy regardless. Patience plays its most important role in our interactions with people. With patience, we don’t explode at people easily. We work on gathering more information and looking for a solution instead.(但我们仍然可以保持冷静、平和和快乐。耐心在我们与他人的互动中发挥着最重要的作用。有了耐心,我们不会轻易对别人发火。我们会努力收集更多信息,寻找解决方案。)”可推断,空处总结上文提到的耐心在面对挑战时的作用,即帮助我们更好地应对挫折和困难,因此推断D项“耐心可能并不总能给我们想要的东西。”与下文是转折关系。故选D。
22.前文“Another important key to patience is gratitude. Instead of focusing on what we want right now, we focus on being grateful for what we already have. When we are grateful for what we have, we improve our ability to be patient.(耐心的另一个关键是感恩。而不是专注于我们现在想要什么,我们专注于感激我们已经拥有的。当我们感激我们所拥有的,我们提高了耐心的能力。)”此句引出耐心与接受生活变化之间的关系,因此推断B项“然而,我们必须认识到生活是变化的。”与下文“But if you accept that one of the guarantees of life is change, you will relax.(但如果你接受生活的保证之一就是变化,你就会放松下来。)”
23.此句为最后一句,总结全文,呼应开头“Patience is a virtue because it cultivates inner strength and sound judgment.(耐心是一种美德,因为它能培养内心的力量和健全的判断力。)”
根据第二段中的“Known as “China’s Arctic Town,” Mohe offers extremely dark skies due to its remote northern location and low population density. The cold, clear nights and minimal light pollution provide exceptional viewing conditions.(被称为“中国北极镇”的漠河,因其偏远的北部地理位置和低人口密度,拥有极其黑暗的天空。
【答案】27.C 28.A 29.D 30.C
根据第一段“It felt like dead time not to use the opportunity to kill two birds with one stone.(不利用这个机会一举两得,感觉就像停机时间了)”可推知,作者最初认为吃饭的同时进行多项任务的处理是一种有效利用时间的方式。故选C。
根据第二段“It took an 11-year-old to truly show me what eating mindfully looks like.(一个11岁的孩子才真正向我展示了正念饮食是什么样子)”以及“So I bit my lip and watched her close her eyes, smile and “Mmmm” as she chewed. It was a sharp contrast to how I ate my lunch.(所以我咬着嘴唇,看着她闭上眼睛,微笑着,一边咀嚼着,一边发出“嗯”的声音。这和我吃午饭的方式形成了鲜明的对比)”可知,作者向女儿学到专注于享受饮食的过程,充分体验和享受饮食带来的纯粹的快乐。故选A。
根据第三段“But there’s a huge downside to our disconnected eating. When you don’t fully experience your food, you don’t pay attention to whether you’re hungry or not — or full or not.(但这种不连贯的饮食方式有一个巨大的缺点。当你没有充分体验你的食物时,你不会注意到你是否饿了——或者饱了还是没饱)”可知,当人们不完全体验食物时,他们不会注意到自己是否饿或饱。故选D。
30.推理判断题。根据最后一段“But there’s comparatively little focus on how we eat it — and actually that makes all the difference. So, let’s turn our attention to eating slowly, mindfully and with enjoyment.(但相对而言,很少有人关注我们如何吃饭——而实际上,这才是最重要的。

分析画线词所在句“The smaller the floating ice, the more ‘wispy’ the patterns”可知,这是一个比较级句式,结合画线词下文“The small ice pieces may only be meters across—too small to distinguish in MODIS imagery.”
根据倒数第二段中的“The movement of sea ice and fresh water out of the Arctic… distribute heat around the planet.” 故选A项。
根据最后一段中的“the East Greenland Current is moving less sea ice through the Fram Strait, primarily due to sea ice thinning”和summertime surface water temperatures off Greenland have risen可知,海冰减少使得格陵兰岛夏季地表水的温度上升,这说明海冰的变化与气候系统有关。故选D项。
【答案】35.D 36.D 37.C 38.A
根据第一段“Any person who’s ever flown a kite has learned the lesson: Once you can get the kite off the ground and high into the air, you’re more likely to find a steady breeze to keep it high up in the sky. A fledgling wind power industry is taking that lesson to heart. (任何放过风筝的人都知道这个道理:一旦你能把风筝从地面放飞到高空,你就更有可能找到稳定的风来让它在天空中保持高飞。一个新兴的风力发电产业正在牢记这个道理)”可知,作者通过将常见的放风筝经历与新兴的风力发电产业联系起来来引出主题。故选D项。
36.细节理解题。根据第三段“But to become a widespread source of electricity, airborne wind energy, as it’s also called, needs to overcome a number of technological and commercial hurdles. And it will need to demonstrate that it is safe, won’t harm wildlife and won’t create intolerable noise and visual disturbances for neighbors. At the moment, kite power is in its infancy (发展初期). But small versions are already on the market.(不过,这种所谓的空中风能想要广泛应用,还需要克服一系列技术和商业难题。同时,企业还需要证明它安全性高、不会伤害野生动物,也不会给周边居民带来难以忍受的噪音和视觉困扰。目前,风筝发电还处于发展初期,但小型设备已经投放市场。)”可知,作者认为风筝发电还处于发展初期是因为它在广泛使用前仍处于试验阶段。故选D项。
37.推理判断题。根据第五段“The unit is designed for use in remote locations away from the power network.
故选A项。

The next morning, Ryan told the teen to meet him at the docks. Jimmy arrived, shoulders hunched and eyes fixed on the ground, avoiding Ryan’s gaze. To his surprise, the man handed him a wrapped sandwich. “Eat first,” Ryan said, his tone softer than expected. As Jimmy nibbled silently, Ryan introduced a local dive team, and declared his plan to recover that ring. Jimmy’s eyes widened — he hadn’t expected this effort. For hours, the team combed the dark waters near the docks. Each time a diver emerged with nothing but handfuls of seaweed, Jimmy’s fists clenched tighter. He mumbled apologies, words dissolving into the crash of waves, but Ryan silenced him, “We won’t stop until we find it”, his voice firm yet calm.
Then one of the divers emerged from the depths of the water. In his hand was the wallet, the ring glinting faintly under the noon sun. Jimmy rubbed his eyes as if to confirm it wasn’t a dream. When Ryan informed the owner her ring was found and he would pay the $150 on Jimmy’s behalf, she was overcome with emotion. Moved by his gesture, she immediately agreed to drop the theft charges against Jimmy. Yet the matter didn’t end there. Troubled about Jimmy’s predicament, Ryan even offered the kid a job at his bar. By sunset, Jimmy was mopping floors there, his first wage set aside to repay the stolen $150. The wedding ring sat behind the counter, awaiting its owner — a small circle of gold, gleaming not with wealth, but with the quiet light of grace, proof that even in the shadow of a mistake, kindness can lead the way home.

Dear Peter,
I’m writing to express my choice for the campus cultural festival. After careful consideration, I prefer the Traditional Chinese Art Workshop to the International Food Fair.
As foreign students, most of us are eager to learn about Chinese culture but have few chances to experience it closely. The workshop, such as paper-cutting or calligraphy, can let us get hands-on experience and feel the charm of traditional Chinese art directly.
It’s also a good way to promote cultural exchange between us. I believe it will be more meaningful and popular among students.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
