For many, especially teenage girls, change can be terrifying. It often takes weeks, months, or even longer to adjust to new experiences. This is true for a significant milestone that so many students fear: the beginning of high school.
When I started high school, it felt like my entire world had turned upside down. Since I
试卷第 4 页,共 14 页
came from a small middle school, the leap to a larger all-girls school was stressful. I worried about fitting in this new environment. To make matters even more daunting, my best friend chose a
different school, leaving me to brave this new chapter (篇章) on my own.
Luckily, our school worked hard to ensure freshmen felt comfortable during their first year of high school. On the very first day, we took part in Tiger Camp, a camp designed to ease us into high school life. We played team-building games, met our small group leaders, and got to know
our classmates better. By the end of the camp, I already felt a sense of belonging.
Once the school year started, one of the first major events I attended was the Club Carnival,
which introduced us high school freshmen to a wide variety of extracurricular activities here. I joined the Friendly Fashion Club and a book club, both of which gave me a chance to meet
like-minded students.
After I adapted (适应) to the new school, there were still more challenges waiting for me. The workload was heavy, and I quickly realized that keeping up with the numerous subjects and constant assignments would be challenging: Not only did the subjects become more difficult, but the expectations were higher, and the exams seemed much. However, as time went on, I began to develop better time management skills and learned how to deal with my studies better.
With time, I learned to accept the challenges, knowing that every difficulty was an
opportunity to get better. As I discovered, even the worst storms pass, and just as clouds give way to blue skies, my fears eventually disappeared.

A .fearful heart B .easy adaptation C .peer pressure D .academic stress
7 .What can be concluded from the last paragraph
A .The writer found high school painful. B .The writer achieved personal growth.

试卷第 5 页,共 14 页
C
Humans spend approximately one-third of their lives sleeping, which means that by the
time you reach 15 years old, you will have slept for about 5 years! However, the question remains:
why do we do it Sleep has long been a puzzle for people, leading scientists to explore its
mysteries. They have found that during sleep, our brains and bodies do not simply shut down; instead, complex processes unfold.
What causes sleepiness It’s caused by our biological clock releasing a special chemical signal at the same time daily, signaling it’’s time to wind down. The feeling of heaviness comes from the buildup of old nerve messenger chemicals. When the message gets too much, the brain senses that it’s time to sleep. During sleep, the body breaks down and clears away these old
messengers, preparing for a fresh start.
As you slip into sleep, your heart and breathing slow down, and your brain ignores the most sounds and surroundings around you. Despite appearances, your brain remains active during sleep, performing essential tasks. Throughout the night, you cycle through light, deep, and REM (rapid
eye movement) sleep stages every 90 minutes. Early on, slow-wave sleep is the primary stage,
aiding in brain cleaning, while towards morning,REM sleep increases, leading to vivid dreams.
During sleep, your body repairs and grows, creating new skin, muscle, and other tissues with
released chemicals. It’s also a time for hormone (荷尔蒙) production, aiding growth, and boosting the immune (免疫) system to fight infections.
Scientists still have many questions about sleep, such as why some people need more sleep than others and how certain animals can function with less sleep. They aim to find ways to
improve sleep quality. However, one thing is clear: getting enough sleep is vital for health and
intelligence. Think of sleep as a free magic potion that strengthens you, aids growth, boosts
immunity, and enhances intelligence, happiness, and creativity. Simply lie down and rest to enjoy these benefits.
8 .What inference can be drawn from scientists’ findings about sleep
A .Sleep serves no purpose. B .Sleep has fundamental processes.
C .Sleep involves complex processes. D .Sleep has minimal impact on brain function.
9 .What is the primary function of the body’s “biological clock“
A .Determining the best time for sleep.
试卷第 6 页,共 14 页

C .Managing eating and digestion patterns.
D .Regulating daytime and nighttime activities.
10 .What is the main focus of the third paragraph
A .Describing the different stages and functions of sleep.
B .Discussing the benefits of daytime activities for overall health.
C .Exploring the effects of inadequate sleep on the body and mind.
D .Analyzing the impact of stress on the immune system during sleep.
11 .Which of the following best describes the structure of the passage
A .Narrative of personal sleep experiences.
B .Comparison of human and animal sleep patterns.

First impressions can be harsh. One mistake, and you might feel like you’ll forever be seen as an idiot (笨蛋) in someone’s eyes. However, I believe reality is kinder than that.
Making a first impression is like trying to keep a door open with your foot. Many
encounters with strangers are brief and may never happen again. Sometimes that can be a blessing:
If the person you meet doesn’t care to remember you, you’ll quickly fade into the crowd of
strangers in their mind, avoiding any negative or lasting impression. Other times, it can be
disappointing — imagine striking up a conversation with someone interesting only to part ways before exchanging contact information.
To avoid being forgotten, you need to do something memorable — but not something
foolish. Make an impression by asking an insightful question or making someone laugh. This
means taking risks and avoiding bland (乏味的) small talk; if that’s all you offer, you’ll likely be pushed to the back of their memory, unlikely to be remembered again.
But what if you messed up your first impression And one day you see them looking at you, recalling the time you embarrassed yourself, and they’re walking toward you thinking, “I know
you from somewhere...”
试卷第 7 页,共 14 页
In that case, your second impression needs to be better. In my 19 years of making first
impressions — some not so great — I’ve found that people will give you a second chance if you give them something to care about. Just because you messed up the first time doesn’t mean you should withdraw and stop being interesting. If anything, you should try harder: Listen well, ask relevant questions, smile often, tell a joke, and share what you care about.
None of this is a guaranteed “How to Make People Like You” guide, by the way. I’m not even sure if any of this works. But people seem to like talking to me, so maybe some of it does work.
Anyway, if this is your first impression of me, I hope it’s been a good one.
12 .What does paragraph 2 focus on about first impressions
A .They are brief and temporary. B .They are casual and interesting.
C .They are important and lasting. D .They are negative and dynamic.
13 .How can you make a memorable first impression, according to the author
A .By engaging in small talk. B .By avoiding risky behavior.
C .By demonstrating insight or humor. D .By sharing your personal experiences.
14 .What tone does the author take when discussing the effectiveness of his advice
A .Playful. B .Uncertain. C .Serious. D .Convincing.
15 .What can be the best title for the passage
A .Making a Good First Impression B .The True Art of First Impression
C .Why Second Impression More D .The Lasting Impact of First Impression

When we are faced with a crisis, or if we have an important decision to make,
many of us fall into the trap of over-thinking. We may keep thinking about something constantly and too long. 16 How can we stop ourselves from over-thinking
Doing something to distract yourself is a good idea. You can find working with your hands is especially good. 17 Your brain simply doesn’t have the
试卷第 8 页,共 14 页
resources to split itself into a third activity, for example over-thinking.
18 Studies have shown that when someone views something in
excitement and anxiety, the brain is forced to become stuck in the present because all of your senses are completely engaged. You do not have time to focus on something different, which can cause over-thinking.
Constant wishing, hoping and praying do not give you any relief. They just keep you stuck in one place. But taking the smallest step off the crisis really matters. It will set things in motion, making you like a snowball. 19
The traps are things that cause your natural ability to react without you realizing that there is a connection between the two. Thus, avoiding relevant traps is also a
good idea. 20 For example, if one of your colleagues is so negative that she always drags you down, stop hanging out with her by having lunch alone at a nearby restaurant.
A .This mindset tends to ruin our day.
B .Put simply, out of sight, out of mind.
C .Just as a saying goes, once bitten, twice shy.
D .You are really getting your brain working for you.
E .Other activities are the ones that arouse your curiosity.
F .It engages your movement skills and thinking process.
G .Thus, you will gradually move yourself out of the feeling.

reception station 37 (consist) of a few wooden houses. I could see the thick
forest just steps away from our house, 38 a white waterfall hung in the middle of the forest. At midnight, it was 39 freezing cold that I was awakened

In a little town, there lived a boy named Leo. Leo was a dreamer with a passion for art. He spent most of his days painting the landscapes around him, capturing the beauty of nature in his drawings. However, Leo was shy and often hesitated to share his work with others. He feared criticism and doubted his talent.
One day, the town announced an art competition, inviting artists of all ages to submit their work. The winner would have their artwork displayed in the town hall and receive a scholarship for art classes. The announcement ignited (点燃) Leo’s
interest. This could be his chance to show his art to the world!

people laugh at my work ” he thought carefully.
On the day of submission, Leo hesitated at the door of the gallery, holding his painting tightly. He took a deep breath and reminded himself of his mother’s words:
“Art is about expressing yourself, not about pleasing others.” Gathering his courage, he stepped inside and handed over his painting.
