To better understand how to support children and young people’s motivation to write in school, we asked them what would make them want to write. Their responses offer valuable
insight into the conditions and experiences that develop genuine engagement with writing (see Figure 1).
The findings indicate that cultivating (培养) environments that prioritise freedom of choice, personal and social relevance, and meaningful engagement may be instrumental in enhancing
young people’s motivation to write in school.
Figure 1: Key factors that would stimulate a desire to write in school.
试卷第 3 页,共 14 页
Figure 2: A word cloud of students topic preferences for writing.
When asked what they would most like to write about in school if they could choose, young writers suggested a wide range of topics. A word cloud visualizes their preferences, where the size of each word corresponds to its frequency in the responses (see Figure 2).
Our interviews with students also reveal that they are most motivated when writing allows them to explore both the world around them and the worlds they imagine.
Overall, our research highlights that writing in school is most meaningful when it is rooted in connection to self, to others and to the world, and experienced in its power to engage, bring
power, inspire thought and shape identity. As a result, it is suggested that school-based writing should not be only about producing perfect texts but about cultivating young writers who are invested, confident, curious and socially connected.
21 .What is most likely to motivate students to write
A .Rewards. B .Autonomy. C .Interest. D .Experiences.
22 .Which of the following would students probably prefer to write about
A.A famous song. B.A fashion trend. C.A past civilization. D.A personal interview.
23 .Who is the passage most probably intended for
A .Policy makers. B .Young writers . C .Lab researchers.
D .School educators.

Marianne North was an early female explorer, naturalist and painter. She traveled around the world, painting plants, people and places. She left an extraordinary legacy behind.
Marianne looked after and traveled with her father for much of her life. After his death
in1869, Marianne, financially independent at the age of forty, set off alone to explore and paint the world.
During her long artistic journey around the world, Marianne displayed impressive courage and determination. Faced with numerous challenges in her pursuits, Marianne proved unaffected and would laugh it off. In Italy, when her landlord pretended he had no rooms for them except
those on the fifth floor, Marianne fearlessly responded with “so to the fifth we went, and gained all the better view”.
Marianne’s most famous supporter was Charles Darwin. Darwin’s power of bringing out
other people’s best points extended to Marianne whom he advised to see and paint the Australian vegetation (植被) which was unlike that of any other country. Taking Darwin’s advice as a royal command, she went at once and eagerly returned in 1881 to sit with Darwin and his children under a shady tree to look closely at her paintings together.
Marianne’s paintings and writing give detailed information on the location, habitat and uses of many of the plants she painted. On her travels, she collected and discovered plants that were
new to botanical science at the time. A pitcher plant she painted in Borneo, for example, was unknown to science at the time she painted it. When botanists saw it, the painting caused great excitement. Through her art, she sought to inspire and educate people about the natural world.
24 .What made Marianne’s traveling around the world at forty possible
A .Personal fame. B .Family support.
C .Financial freedom. D .Darwin’s advice.
25 .What does the author show by mentioning the event in Italy
A .Marianne’s painting skills. B .Marianne’s sense of humor.
C .Marianne’s physical strength. D .Marianne’s positive attitude.
26 .How did Marianne react to Darwin’s suggestion
A .She followed it immediately. B .She considered it a great honor.
C .She discussed it with his children. D .She improved her techniques first.
27 .What can we infer about Marianne’s painting of the pitcher plant
试卷第 5 页,共 14 页
A .It was her most famous work. B .It helped identify a new species.
C .It was painted to attract botanists. D .It proved her exceptional painting skills.

Many people feel fear or disgust when seeing spiders, scorpions, and similar creatures.
However, these animals are vital for healthy ecosystems. As global biodiversity declines, two
scientists from the University of Massachusetts studied how insects and arachnids are faring in the United States. Their research revealed a shocking lack of data, highlighting an urgent need to
protect these creatures, which are essential for our planet’s health.
Laura Figueroa, the study’s senior author, explains that insects and arachnids are
fundamental to human society. They assist in pollination, control pests naturally, and even indicate air and water quality. While popular animals like lions and pandas receive significant conservation attention, these smaller creatures often do not. The researchers aimed to understand their current
status since they rarely get the same protection.
The study examined 99,312 known insect and arachnid species in North America. The
results were startling: nearly 90% of these species have no official conservation status. This means we simply do not know how most of them are doing. Existing information is uneven, focusing
mostly on aquatic insects used for monitoring water quality or visually appealing groups like
butterflies. Arachnids, in particular, are largely ignored, with most states protecting not a single species.
The research also found that conservation efforts vary by state. States relying heavily on industries like mining and oil extraction tend to offer fewer protections. In contrast, states with more environmentally conscious public attitudes are more likely to safeguard these species.
Figueroa suggests looking at bird conservation as a successful model, where diverse groups like hunters and bird watchers united for a common goal.
Ultimately, insects and arachnids are more than objects of fear. They deserve appreciation for their ecological importance. Protecting them begins with collecting more data and recognizing their value. As one researcher noted, changing our perspective is the first step toward ensuring
these critical species survive for future generations.

28 .What did the study by Figueroa and Walsh mainly reveal about insects and arachnids
A .They are disappearing faster than large animals.
B .Most species lack official protection and data.
C .They are only important for water quality monitoring.
D .People generally love them more than birds and lions.
29 .Why do some states offer fewer protections for these creatures according to the text
A .They have too many dangerous species living there.
B .Their economies depend on resource-extracting industries.
C .The public in those states dislikes all kinds of insects.
D .There are no scientists working in those specific areas.
30 .What can be inferred about the future of insect conservation from the bird example
A .Only professional biologists can save endangered species.
B .Success requires cooperation among different groups of people.
C .Birds and insects compete for the same limited resources.
D .Hunting should be completely banned to protect all wildlife.
31 .What is the author’s main purpose in writing this text

As more people turn to ChatGPT for mental health advice, new research warns that AI
chatbots are not yet ready to act as therapists. A study by Brown University found that even when instructed to follow professional methods, these systems often fail to meet ethical standards set by psychological associations. Researchers identified serious issues, such as mishandling crisis
situations, reinforcing harmful beliefs, and using language that fakes empathy without true understanding.
The study leader, Zainab Iftikhar, examined whether specific written instructions, known as
试卷第 7 页,共 14 页
prompts, could make AI behave more ethically. Many users share prompt strategies on social
media, hoping to guide AI to act like cognitive behavioral therapists. However, the research
showed that prompts alone cannot ensure safety. While AI can generate responses that look like therapy, it lacks the genuine comprehension and adaptability of a human professional.
To test the systems, researchers observed simulated counseling sessions involving AI
models prompted to act as therapists. Licensed psychologists then reviewed the conversations and uncovered 15 distinct ethical risks. These included offering generic advice instead of personalized help, steering conversations too forcefully, and displaying bias related to gender or culture. Most critically, the AI often failed to manage safety crises, such as refusing to address suicidal thoughts or failing to direct users to real help.
A major concern highlighted is the lack of accountability. Human therapists face strict rules and can be held responsible for mistakes, but no such regulatory frameworks exist for AI
counselors. The researchers emphasize that while AI tools could help expand access to care for
those facing high costs, strong safeguards are needed before relying on them in serious situations. Without proper oversight, there is a risk of causing more harm than good.
Experts argue that evaluating AI in sensitive areas like mental health requires rigorous
human involvement, not just automatic tests. Although AI holds promise for addressing the mental health crisis, it is vital to critique these systems carefully. For now, users are advised to remain
cautious when discussing personal mental health with chatbots, recognizing their limitations and potential dangers.
32 .What is a key limitation of AI chatbots when acting as therapists
A .They are too expensive for most users.
B .They lack genuine emotional comprehension.
C .They refuse to answer any personal questions.
D .They cannot understand user instructions clearly.
33 .Why did the researchers test specific “prompts” on the AI models
A .To retrain the AI with new medical data.
B .To prove that social media advice is always wrong.
C .To make the AI speak faster during conversations.
D .To see if instructions could improve ethical behavior.
试卷第 8 页,共 14 页
34 .What serious failure was noted regarding crisis management
A .The AI offered too many phone numbers for help.
B .The AI ignored signs of immediate danger to users.
C .The AI forced users to stop talking about feelings.
D .The AI charged money for emergency assistance.
35 .What can be inferred about the future use of AI in mental health
A .It should replace all human therapists immediately.
B .It requires strict rules before being widely trusted.
C .It is already perfect for treating severe depression.
D .It will soon be banned by all psychological groups.

At 91, Pete Bernard is still full of energy. He walks his dog for long distances, cuts the grass in his garden. Remarkably, he has lived longer than two of his own children. His story makes many people wonder: 36
Scientists have long studied this question by examining the lives of very old people.
Researchers agreed that two main factors greatly influence longevity: genetics and basic
healthcare. 37 Those with parents and grandparents who reached old age often inherit helpful genes that protect their health and slow the aging process. Basic healthcare is equally
important. Good nutrition, clean drinking water, vaccinations, and regular medical care help prevent serious illnesses and allow people to stay healthy for more years.
38 Scientists have identified four key qualities. First is a sense of purpose. In
Sardinia, Italy, a region known for its remarkable number of centenarians, people often follow the idea of “la buona vita” — living with joy, strong community ties, and a clear purpose. The second is staying active. Rather than extreme sports, it is steady, enjoyable activity — such as gardening, farming, or household tasks — that matters most. Third, helping others. While feeling loved
improves happiness, the act of caring for and supporting others is directly linked to increased
lifespan. Finally, conscientiousness — the habit of being responsible, organized, and dependable

— shows the strongest connection to long life. 39
Things like a good sense of humour or a positive attitude make life more enjoyable.
40 Unlike genetics or national healthcare systems, these personality qualities are largely within our control. By developing purpose, remaining active, helping others, and acting
responsibly, each person may take practical steps toward a longer, healthier life.
A .They do not seem to extend lifespan, though.
B .Why do some individuals live to a very old age while others do not
C .Do many environmental factors also act to reduce that upper age limit
D .However, recent studies show that character traits are also powerful influences.
E .Regularly attending religious services can add as much as two years to a person’s life.
F .Genetics play a significant role, explaining why about one-third of some people live longer.
G .Conscientious persons avoid unnecessary risks, plan carefully, and tend to make healthier choices.

I never thought a group of stray (流浪的) cats would turn our quiet community into a place of conflict until last month. As a senior high school student who loves animals, I had been feeding the three stray cats near the community gate for half a year. They were gentle — one black, one
orange, and one white with patches — and they’d greet me every afternoon after school, their tails waving softly.
But things started to go wrong. More neighbors noticed the cats and began bringing food:
some left bowls of rice, some threw leftover bones, and others put out milk. At first, I was glad the cats were getting more care. However, the situation soon spiraled (急剧恶化) out of control. Food bowls piled up by the gate, attracting flies and ants in the summer heat. The leftover food smelled terrible when it went bad, making the entrance to our community an unpleasant place. What’s
worse, a few more cats started wandering into residents’ yards, knocking over flower pots and leaving fur on cars.
Complaints flooded the community group chat. “These cats are a nuisance (麻烦)!” one
neighbor wrote. “Someone should drive them away!” another said angrily. A few animal lovers
argued back, insisting we shouldn’t abandon the poor creatures. Tensions rose, and even my
parents told me to stop feeding the cats, saying I was adding to the problem. I felt heartbroken — I didn’t want to give up on the cats, but I also hated seeing the community torn apart.
One evening, as I stood by the gate watching the cats eat quietly, Ms. Li, our community
manager, walked over. She didn’t scold me, but instead sighed and said, “We need a solution that works for everyone, not just the cats or the people who love them.” Her words gave me an idea. That night, I stayed up late, writing down a plan. The next morning, I went to see Ms. Li again,
holding my notebook tightly. I hoped my plan would put an end to the conflict and save the stray cats.

Good morning, students. I’m excited to announce that our new environmentally friendly
library will officially open this Sunday. This special building uses solar panels to provide
electricity and has a system to collect rainwater for daily use. The walls are made of recycled
materials, and all the lights are energy-saving. Besides, special glass is used to make the windows. Inside, you’ll find 50 computers, 25,000 books, and comfortable reading areas. What’s more, there is an environmental protection corner where students can learn about recycling and sustainable
living. The library will also hold monthly environmental workshops to teach students how to
protect our planet. We believe this green library will not only provide excellent learning resources but also help develop students’ awareness of environmental protection. Let’s work together to
make our school more eco-friendly while enjoying the wonderful world of books.

proud of what we’d achieved. It turned out that every problem could be solved with kindness and joint efforts.
