AI Threatens Entry-Level Jobs
The traditional company structure is a pyramid with many entry-level employees at the bottom. However, AI may change this. Some predict future organizations will be like an obelisk with fewer staff at each level. But the biggest concern is the diamond shape: if AI replaces more junior jobs, companies will have fewer workers at both the top and bottom but more in the middle.
Junior employees usually do much document-heavy work to gain experience. Now AI can do this work more efficiently and cheaply. Some managers wonder if they should skip training new graduates and hire experienced people directly.
Yet there are three good reasons for companies to keep entry-level jobs. First, the long-term impact of AI on work is still unknown. Second, without young talent, companies will face a serious shortage of future leaders. Third, young workers are more ready to accept and use AI. According to OpenAI, young people are more than twice as likely to use AI tools at work than those over 50.
In fact, entry-level jobs may improve. With AI doing the boring work, junior workers can focus on communicating with clients and developing higher-level skills. Instead of cutting entry-level jobs, companies should redesign these positions better.
What does the underlined word “obelisk” probably mean
A traditional company structure with many bottom workers
A tall, narrow stone pillar with a pointed top
A diamond shape with wider middle and narrower ends
D. A system without clear levels or positions
What may AI cause companies to do
Hire more experienced top managers.
Reduce the number of junior employees.
Pay higher salaries to entry-level workers.
D. Completely change their business goals.
3. Why should companies keep entry-level jobs
A. Young workers learn AI more easily.
B. Junior employees ask for lower pay.
C. AI cannot do any work independently.
D. Senior workers refuse to use new tools.
4. What is the main idea of the text
A. AI makes company structures flatter.
B. Entry-level jobs face challenges but are still necessary.
C. Young people worry about losing jobs to AI.
D. Managers should train workers to use AI skills.

二、阅读理解:
1. B
解析:obelisk 本义是方尖碑,文中用来比喻 “层级少、上窄下窄” 的组织形态。根据第一段第三句“Some predict future organizations will be like an obelisk with fewer staff at each level. ”可以推断出,每个水平的员工都比较少,符合上窄下窄的描述。干扰项 A 是传统金字塔,C 是钻石形,均不对。
2. B
解析:根据第二段最后一句话“Some managers wonder if they should skip training new graduates and hire experienced people directly.”可知,一些管理者在考虑是否应该直接雇佣有经验的人,而不培养毕业生。
3. A
解析:根据第三行倒数第二句“Third, young workers are more ready to accept and use AI. ”年轻人更容易接受使用 AI。
4. B
解析:本文首先介绍 AI 可能替代大量基础工作,使初级岗位面临挑战,随后用Yet转折,明确提出公司应保留初级岗位的三大理由,结尾还指出公司不应削减初级岗位,而应更好地重新设计这些岗位,全文围绕 “初级岗位虽受 AI 冲击但依然不可或缺” 展开,因此 B 选项Entry-level jobs face challenges but are still necessary最贴合文章主旨。
