Four top picks for the best ocean videos for kids
A Plastic Ocean
Plastic Ocean documents what happens to plastic products after they’re thrown “away”. As the film-makers discover, there is no away. Plastic breaks up into smaller and smaller pieces that end up on beaches, or mistakenly eaten by animals. Craig Leeson, an award-winning journalist,
teams up with Tanya Streeter, a world champion freediver. Together, they create a film that
combines adventure, travel and science. Kids get to learn how everyday choices affect the health of our oceans
Run time: 1 hour, 42 minutes
Deep Sea
Shot by legendary videographers Howard and Michelle Hall, Deep Sea features the greatest hits of the underwater world. These include turtles, sharks and whales. Kids learn about
interdependence among marine (海洋的) life, and why humans need healthy oceans. One reviewer said, “This video features a wide variety of sea life, my three-year-old never gets tired of watching it. As an adult, I am amazed at how many different species they show... and it is very
informative... great for family time, educating children/students, etc.”
Run time: 40 minutes
The Blue Planet and Blue Planet Ⅱ
It’s a bit of a cheat to pick both Blue Planet programs, but they’re both outstandingly good. Each hour-long episode features incredible underwater footage (片段) and a key message about the importance of conservation. Some episodes featuring otherworldly-looking creatures are often a favorite with older kids However, some of these may be a little too frightening for little ones.

The groundhog (土拨鼠) has been considered a weather prophet (预言家) for many years in north America. According to legend, all winter long the furry brown groundhog sleeps in his comfortable underground home, or hole. On February 2, he wakes up. The groundhog is very
hungry and comes out to search for food. If the sun is shinning, the groundhog will see his own shadow. The sight of his shadow gives him such a fright that he quickly returns to his hole. This event means that spring will not come for six more weeks. If the sun is not shining, there will be no shadow. The groundhog will not be scared and he will stay outside his hole. Spring will come very soon.
试卷第 2 页,共 12 页
The idea that animals could foretell the weather probably began in ancient Europe. At the
time, most of the people were farmers and the weather was very important to them. If spring came early they could begin the planting season early and have an early harvest. They found some
animals were good weather prophets. On February 2, when they celebrated Candlemas Day, a
religious holiday around the time winter ends, all the people watched for an animal leaving its
hole. In Germany, farmers watched for a badge. In England farmers looked for a hedgehog (刺猬). They believed the animals could foretell the weather for the next six weeks.
When the early settlers came to North America there no badgers or hedgehogs near their
homes. The farmers did not know when to plant their crops. In time they discovered an animal that left its hole at the end of winter. That animal was the groundhog, also called a woodchuck or a
marmot. Every February 2 they watched for a groundhog. Finally, the day came to be called
“Groundhog Day”. Many groundhog-watching clubs were formed. The members sometimes
dressed in nightshirts and top hats made of silk. They would go to the hills in the dark morning
and wait near a groundhog hole. Sometimes the groundhog-watching clubs would have other types of celebrations

In many cities, shared bikes have transformed how people travel short distances. They are convenient, affordable, and eco-friendly. Yet in recent years, studies have shown that not only has the utilization rate of each bike dropped, but complaints about blocked walkways have also risen sharply. Walkways have become piled with abandoned and broken bikes. Residents in some
neighborhoods say bike piles make it hard for parents with strollers or older people to move around safely.
The rise and fall of bike-sharing enthusiasm is not without precedent (先例) . In the early days, bright-colored bikes appeared everywhere, and ridership rose sharply. However, without
proper regulations, many companies flooded the streets with more bikes than they could panies like Ofo poured far more bikes onto the streets than they can maintain. Many sat
unrepaired for months, turning walkways into messy storage yards. By 2018, the company was in financial trouble, leaving hundreds of thousands of abandoned bikes to rust (生锈) in public
spaces.
Some countries have taken action to address the situation. For example, Singapore
established designated (指定的) bike parking zones and fines for improper parking. The Paris city government began introducing a licensing system for bike-sharing operators in 2018 to regulate
the number of operators and control their fleets. However, in April 2023, Paris residents voted
against renewing the operator’s licenses, resulting in an interruption of bike-sharing services in the city.
Despite challenges, bike-sharing remains popular, and cities are experimenting with
solutions, trying to balance convenience, safety, and public space. While some residents complain about abandoned bikes, others value the flexibility these services provide. Urban planners should recognize that success depends on the responsibility of both providers and riders. The key may lie not in abandoning shared bikes, but in thoughtful planning, responsible use, and cooperation
between operators, governments, and citizens. How they adapt together will determine whether

The British countryside, long recognized for its natural beauty, has seen a growing trend — people are picking up forgotten crafts. Many rural communities have begun to embrace old
techniques and skills that were once on the verge of extinction. Artisans (工艺匠人) are turning to handcrafted goods as a response to mass production and the over-reliance on modern technology.
In recent years, the British government has shown support for cultural preservation through various initiatives. Programs designed to promote traditional crafts, like pottery, weaving, and
woodworking, have gained popularity. One notable initiative is the Heritage Crafts Association, which aims to recognize the best of British craftsmanship and provide funding for full-time
artisans. This support ignited a spark, inspiring a new generation of young artisans eager to learn
试卷第 5 页,共 12 页
the crafts their grandparents once practiced.
A key factor driving the revival is the increasing demand for sustainable, locally made
products. In contrast to mass-produced items, handcrafted goods are viewed as a response to
disposable consumer culture and a mark of sustainable quality, offering a personal touch that is hard to imitate. Dr. Emily Carter, a researcher at the University ofthe Arts London, explains, “Consumers are more conscious than ever about where their products come from. There’s a
growing appreciation for items that are not only handmade but also tell a story.”
However, the road to revival is not without challenges. As a carpenter from Yorkshire
points out, “We often face the challenge of being recognized on a larger scale. Our work is slow, precise, and on a small scale, which can be hard for people to appreciate in an age of instant
gratification (即时满足).” Many artisans struggle to find a steady customer base, as the market for handcrafted goods is still niche (小众的). Despite these challenges, many remain committed to
preserving their craft. For many artisans, the revival of their craft is more than just a business — it’s a way to reconnect with their traditions and ensure that the rich cultural heritage of Britain is passed down to future generations.
12 .What trend is described in the first paragraph
A .The revival of traditional crafts. B .The decline of rural communities.
C .The shift towards mass production. D .The growing dependence on technology.
13 .How does the Heritage Crafts Association help preserve traditional crafts
A .By training young craftsmen. B .By funding consumer purchases.
C .By advertising handcrafted goods. D .By supporting artisans’ livelihoods.
14 .Which aspect of products are consumers more concerned about today
A .Their practical value. B .Their brand popularity.
C .Their cultural significance. D .Their environmental impact.
15 .What can be inferred about the artisans according to the last paragraph
A .They focus on innovating the old techniques.
B .They fail to meet current consumer preferences.
C .They view their craft as a meaningful link to heritage.
D .They face the inevitable extinction of their traditional skills.

I was once a psychologist at a children’s institution. One day, an adolescent boy turned up in the waiting room. I showed him into my office and pointed to a chair.
“Please sit down,” I said.
The boy, who I later learned was named David, wore a black raincoat that was buttoned up to his neck. Looking pale, he stared at his feet while wringing his hands nervously. He lost his father as an infant, and then lived with his mother and grandfather. But the year before David turned 13, his grandfather died and his mother’s life was taken away in a car accident. Now he was 14 and in foster care.
His head teacher had referred him to me. “This boy,” he wrote, “is understandably depressed. He refuses to talk to others. Can you reach him ”
I stared at the note, feeling a heavy weight in my chest. I knew well that some pains run too deep for simple words of comfort. Psychology doesn’t have a magic cure for all human sorrows.
The first two times we met, without a word, David sat hunched up in the chair and only looked at the wall behind me. As he was about to leave after the second visit, I put my hand on his

shoulder. He didn’t shrink back, but he didn’t look at me either.
“Come back next week, if you like,” I said. I hesitated a bit. Then I said, “I know it hurts — more than anyone can say.”
He came, and I suggested we play a game of chess. He nodded. After that, we played chess every Wednesday afternoon — in complete silence and without any eye contact.
Usually, he arrived earlier than agreed, took the chessboard and pieces from the shelf and began setting them up before I even got a chance to sit down. It seemed as if he enjoyed my company. But why did he never look at me
“Perhaps he simply needs someone to share his pain with,” I thought.
One afternoon, David took off his raincoat and put it on the back of the chair. While setting up the chess pieces, his face seemed more alive.
Another afternoon, with David beside the chessboard, I thought about how little we know about therapy-about the mysterious process associated with healing. Suddenly, he looked up at me.
“It’s your turn,” he said his voice hoarse and rusty, as if he hadn’t used it in months.注意:1.续写词数应为 150 左右;

Dear fellow students,
As we all know, books play a vital role in our lives. Not only do they offer us a wealth of knowledge and profound wisdom, but they are also a crucial means of broadening our horizons.
However, nowadays reading is facing some challenges. Some students are addicted to
mobile games and short videos, spending little time on reading. Therefore, it is high time that
some effective measures should be taken immediately. Schools are expected to organize more reading activities, which is bound to arouse students’ interest in reading. On the other hand, it is essential for us to set aside specific time for reading every day and form a good reading habit.
In conclusion, I advocate every student to do our utmost to love reading. Growing Up with Good BooksPossible answer 2
Dear fellow students,
Reading plays an important role in our life because it can not only open our minds but also make us cleverer and happier. Reading is the lighthouse in our life, through which we can get
knowledge and power, as well as enrich our life.
However, it’s a pity to see that some students spend too much time listening to music,
watching TV or going online to play games instead of reading books, which is surely bad for their growth. As a result of this, I would like to suggest that everyone should read more books,
especially those classical ones. Meanwhile, we can spread our Chinese traditional culture to the
world. So let’s start reading now and let it become a part of our life!

Paragraph 1:
I was totally surprised, and the chess piece in my hand stopped halfway. For a long moment, I just stared at David, unable to say a word. His eyes were still fixed on mine, dark and tired, but
no longer empty — there was a tiny glimmer of something like hope in them. I slowly put the
chess piece down, my voice softer than usual, “Thank you. It’s my turn.” David nodded slightly, his lips twitching into a faint, almost unnoticeable smile. The quiet office, once filled with only the click of chess pieces, now felt warm and bright, as if the sun had suddenly shone through the window.
Paragraph 2:
He began to open up to people around him. He no longer wore his black raincoat buttoned tightly to his neck, even on cloudy days; instead, he hung it neatly on the back of the chair as soon as he walked in. His pale face gradually gained a hint of color, and sometimes he would glance up at me when I placed a chess piece on the board. He even started to share small things — like how he made delicious cookies last weekend, or how he saw a cat near the institution. The once silent chess games were now filled with soft, short sentences, and the click of chess pieces sounded
