When counting down the days until homecoming, some women choose to track paydays, school days, or Mondays. Me I always counted trash days. Each time I rolled the green, heavy bin down the driveway, I considered it one of the most intolerable jobs of a Navy wife.
Occasionally, a neighbor would take pity on me and replace my trashcan back to the side of the house after the garbage men were done with it. And once, when I had maggots in the bottom
of the bin, a few men from the neighborhood were nice enough to dispose of them and Clorox, the
trashman, did not tell me about the whole incident until a year later.
“It takes a village to do Sarah’s trash,” one neighbor, Stanford, joked. “And sometimes it
also takes a village to change Sarah’s flat tire, to kill big bugs in her living room, and to fetch her son’s toy airplane that landed on the roof.” Hearing his words, I wondered if I wasn’t being strong enough and if I shouldn’t take my title of“Navy dependent” so literally as to mean I was, well,
dependent.
“Don’t be silly,” my neighbors would say. “We’re glad to help.” More than hanging a flag from their doors, they said helping a Navy family made them feel like they were doing their part.
Surprisingly to me, despite doing my lawn every week and occasionally my trash and home repairs, these neighbors often told me I was far from “dependent”. Instead of focusing on the
things I was not doing myself, my neighbors were in awe at the things I had done alone. And most of these things (caring for sick babies in the middle of the night, dealing with emergencies), I had done without my realizing it or giving myself credit.
I learned that being strong and independent doesn’t necessarily mean doing it all. There are few people who can do everything themselves. Most people are eager to offer help, which they
think rewarding. So don’t decline help.
24 .How did the author feel at Stanford’s words
A .Proud. B .Lighthearted. C .Annoyed. D .Ashamed.
25 .Why were the neighbors willing to help the author
A .The author was easy to get along with.
B .They felt like they were doing something for Navy.
C .The author was incapable of doing any housework.
D .The housework in the author’s house was easy to do.
26 .What kind of a person was the author in her neighbours’ eyes
A .Respectable. B .Dull. C .Generous. D .Dependent.
27 .What does the author convey in the last paragraph
A .Every man has his hobbyhorse. B .A constant guest is never welcome.
C .Accepting help brings happiness to helpers. D .Being strong and independent contributes to
success.

Every year, over 14 million tons of plastic waste end up in the world’s oceans, according to the UN Environment Programme. This waste kills millions of marine animals each year, pollutes fragile coastal ecosystems, and breaks down into microplastics that enter the food chain and reach the human body. Most of this plastic comes from single-use packaging, designed for days of use but able to persist in oceans for hundreds of years. Now, scientists and startups worldwide are
turning to an unlikely solution to this global crisis: fungi.
At the heart of this innovation is mycelium (菌丝体), the root-like structure of fungi. Made of tiny thread-like filaments, mycelium grows by feeding on organic matter, binding into a strong, flexible, fully biodegradable material. To make fungal packaging, manufacturers use agricultural waste (wheat straw, rice husks, sawdust) as a growth medium, mix it with mycelium spores, place it into molds, and let it grow in a controlled environment for 5-7 days. It is then heat-treated to
stop growth, forming a lightweight, durable packaging made without harmful chemicals, high temperatures or massive energy input.
Unlike plastic that never fully breaks down, fungal packaging is 100% biodegradable. It
decomposes in soil in 30 days, and most importantly, fully breaks down in seawater within 3-6
months, leaving no microplastics or toxic residues. This makes it an ideal replacement for plastic packaging used to transport seafood, cosmetics and electronics, major contributors to marine
plastic pollution.
Major companies worldwide are adopting the technology. A Dutch startup FungiPack uses it for seafood shipping, while Chinese firm MycoGreen produces it for electronics, reporting a
70% reduction in carbon emissions compared to plastic production. It still faces challenges: higher cost than mass-produced plastic, and poor water resistance. But with ongoing optimization, it will soon become a viable alternative to most ocean-bound plastic.
“Plastic was a miracle invention, but we forgot to design materials for the end of their life,” says Dr. Jane Zhao, a Tsinghua University materials scientist. “Mycelium works with nature, not against it. That’s the future of sustainable packaging.”
28 .What is the biggest advantage of fungal packaging over traditional plastic
A .It is cheaper to mass-produce B .It can be reused many times

How do we come to make sense of our daily lives How can we gain a strong grasp of who we really are and how we fit in the world And how can we naturally connect to important ones in our lives “Life stories are one of the prime tools we have for understanding ourselves and the
world around us.” says Robyn Fivush, a professor at Emory University.
Humans are natural storytellers. We use stories to understand our present, draw insights
from our past, and anticipate the future. Thus, storytelling is basic to our lives. As a form of rich
engagement between family members, family storytelling should be valued more. Sharing bedtime stories and talks after school, or walking through an event that left a young child crying—these are all opportunities for parents and children to become closer through warmth, understanding and
support. Fivush and her colleagues have underscored the value of storytelling in parenting. The ways parents support children’s emotions and help them retell more vivid, richly detailed stories have lasting impacts on children’s cognitive(认知的)and emotional development.
Children and teenagers learn how to talk about their lives from family stories. An early example is learning how to present a detailed story with a beginning, a middle, and an end—to give it a clear structure. Further, they learn what is appropriate to talk about or avoid and what feelings are appropriate to share over dinner or out with others.
When growing up, we use our life stories to build complex and stable views of ourselves.
Through stories about the traditions maintained over the years, we make connections between past

successes and failures, our relationships, and the activities that hold meaning to us to develop our new identities. These identities reflect our roles as family members, community members,
co-workers and so on, thus helping us have a more complete view of ourselves.
Having a lasting impact on ourselves and those around us, life stories are filled with
meaning, insight, and value. By the way, what’s the story that stands out to you from a recent meal or chat
32 .Why does the writer ask three questions in the beginning
A .To explain a general idea.

33 .What does the underlined word “underscored” in Paragraph 2 mean
A .Cast doubt on. B .Attached importance to.
C .Shown concern for. D .Thought poorly of.
34 .How can life stories help form a complete view of ourselves according to the writer
A .By maintaining social ties.
B .By rebuilding our identities.
C .By connecting our past and future.
D .By learning from family members.
35 .Where is the text most probably taken from
A .A review on a storybook.

One Saturday morning, Grandma and I drove to Mrs. Henderson’s Bakery — the oldest one in our small town. Grandma had been wanting their maple nut bread for weeks, and she’d
promised to buy me a giant cinnamon (肉桂) roll if I helped her carry the groceries later. The
bakery smelled like warm butter and cinnamon as we pushed open the wooden door and the bell above the entrance rang softly.
As I leaned against the glass case to look at the giant cinnamon rolls, I noticed a boy
standing a few feet away. He was about 10, two or three years younger than I. He had messy blond hair and wore an old bluejacket that was too small for him. His fingers were pressed lightly
against the window and his eyes were fixed on a giant cinnamon roll. Every time he breathed, a small cloud of fog formed on the glass.
Just then, Mrs. Henderson said to the boy sharply, “Kid, window-shopping is not allowed — we’re busy with orders.”
The boy jumped back like he’d been burned, and his face turned red. However, he still glanced at the giant cinnamon roll from time to time.

Driven by something in my heart, I walked to the boy. He looked a little frightened at first, but when I asked him if he liked cinnamon rolls, too, he nodded shyly.
“Actually, it’s for my little sister,” he said almost in a whisper. “Today is her birthday... and she talked about cinnamon rolls when we walked past the bakery last month. I have saved my
pocket money for a month, but I only have $1.25 but a cinnamon roll costs $3.”
Seeing Grandma examining freshly baked bread, I thought about the cinnamon roll I had been promised, the one I could almost taste. Then I looked at the boy’s hopeful and worried face.注意:1. 续写词数应为 150 个左右;

However, after I got my pilot license, there were not many jobs going. To make ends meet, I

crew asked if anyone had pilot experience. I immediately volunteered, landing the plane safely at a nearby airport. For the brief time, I was in charge; I was aware that I was responsible for all the people on board. It was a great responsibility. The airline said I showed great bravery and offered me a new job flying passenger planes, which I happily accepted.

It takes a village to do Sarah’s trash,” one neighbor, Stanford,
joked. “And sometimes it also takes a village to change Sarah’s flat tire, to kill big bugs in her
living room, and to fetch her son’s toy airplane that landed on the roof.” Hearing his words, I
wondered if I wasn’t being strong enough and if I shouldn’t take my title of “Navy dependent” so literally as to mean I was, well, dependent.( “清理莎拉的垃圾需要全村的人,”一位名叫斯坦福的邻居开玩笑说。“有时候,给莎拉换爆胎,杀死客厅里的大虫子,把落在屋顶上的她儿子的玩具飞机拿回来,也需要全村人的努力。”听到他的话,我想知道我是否不够坚强,我是否应该把我的头衔“海军依赖”字面上理解为我是,嗯,依赖)”可知,作者对斯坦福的话感到羞愧。故选 D。
25 .细节理解题。根据第四段““Don’t be silly,” my neighbors would say. “We’re glad to help.” More than hanging a flag from their doors, they said helping a Navy family made them feel like
they were doing their part.(“别傻了,”我的邻居们会说。“我们很乐意帮忙。”他们说,帮助一个海军家庭让他们觉得自己尽了自己的一份力量,而不仅仅是在门上挂一面国旗)”可知,邻居们愿意帮助作者因为他们觉得自己是在为海军做点什么。故选 B。
26.细节理解题。根据倒数第二段“Instead of focusing on the things I was not doing myself, my neighbors were in awe at the things I had done alone. And most of these things (caring for sick

故选 A。
根据最后一段“I learned that being strong and independent doesn’t necessarily mean doing it all. There are few people who can do everything themselves. Most people are eager to offer help, which they think rewarding. So don’t decline help.(我明白了坚强和独立并不一定意味着什么都要做。很少有人什么事都能自己做。大多数人都渴望提供帮助,他们认为这是值得的。所以不要拒绝帮助)”可推知,作者在最后一段表达的意思是:接受帮助会给帮助者带来快乐。故选 C。

28.细节理解题。根据文章第三段“Unlike plastic that never fully breaks down, fungal packaging is 100% biodegradable. It decomposes in soil in 30 days, and most importantly, fully breaks down in seawater within 3-6 months, leaving no microplastics or toxic residues.(与塑料不同,塑料永远不会完全分解,而真菌包装则是 100%可生物降解的。它在土壤中 30 天内就会分解,更重要的是,在海水中 3 至 6 个月内就能完全分解,不会留下微塑料或有毒残留物)”可知,与传统的塑料包装相比,真菌包装的最大优势是它在海水中能够完全分解。故选 C。
29.推理判断题。根据文章第四段“A Dutch startup FungiPack uses it for seafood shipping, while Chinese firm MycoGreen produces it for electronics, reporting a 70% reduction in carbon
故选 A。
It still faces challenges: higher cost than mass-produced
plastic, and poor water resistance. But with ongoing optimization(它仍面临一些挑战:成本高于批量生产的塑料,且防水性能不佳。

选项 A“Treat others well.(善待他人。)” 故选 A 项。
