第一节(共 15 小题;每小题 2.5 分,满分 37.5 分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的 A、B、C 和 D 四个选项中,选出最佳答案。
A
Anti-inflammatory (抗炎的) foods to eat to reduce pain
Foods you eat can play a powerful role in reducing inflammation. Research shows that daily foods are loaded
with natural compounds (化合物) that help ease pain, protect against disease, and keep your body running
smoothly. Here are some of the inflammation-fighting foods worth adding to your plate.
Dark chocolate
Yes, you read that correctly. Dark chocolate contains chemicals and anti-oxidants (抗氧化物) that help fight
inflammation. According to a large Italian study, people who ate about one square of dark chocolate every three
days had significantly lower measures of a protein associated with inflammation than those who ate no chocolate at
all.
Green and black tea
Tea is rich in anti-oxidants called flavonoids, which may help protect cells from damage that can worsen
conditions like arthritis (关节炎). It also contains compounds that fight inflammation, making green tea a great
choice to your morning coffee. Both green and black teas come from the same plant — the differences are in
where they’re grown and how they’ re processed.
Soy protein
Research has shown that people with arthritis, especially men, who consumed 40 grams of soy protein per day
for three months experienced less pain and improved mobility compared with those who didn’t. While it’s difficult
to get that much soy protein from food alone, adding a serving of soybeans, tofu, or soy milk is still worthwhile.
Avocados
Although the window for perfect ripeness is small, avocados are highly recommended — they’re packed with
pounds such as carotenoids and tocopherols help fight inflammation and may even lower cancer risk.
第 3页/共 17页
Interestingly, research suggests that the healthiest part of an avocado is often the part that gets deserted.
1. What will be the result of eating dark chocolate
A. It makes you get fatter and fatter.
B. The more you eat it, the better.
C. It can help build bones and muscles.
D. A certain regular amount is beneficial.
2. If you feel less mobile, which food is advisable
A. Dark chocolate. B. Green and black tea. C. Soy protein. D. Avocados.
3. What do green tea and avocados have in common
A. Both are difficult to grow and ripen in gardens.
B. Both contain chemicals that can fight inflammation.
C. Without them, people would get sick more easily.
D. Both of their best part is unwisely thrown away.
B
When my husband Paul persuaded me to adopt a dog, I was full of doubts. At 65, I thought we should be
planning trips, not picking up dog hair. I never believed I could love a dog, especially not the scruffy mutt with a
torn ear from the shelter. I agreed only for Paul’s sake.
Casey burst into our lives like a storm. Our morning walks became a daily struggle. His powerful nose guided
him, pulling me toward every piece of forgotten pizza or chicken nugget on the ground. The sight of a squirrel
turned him into a frantic creature, leaping and howling, while I tried desperately to hold him back. I felt exhausted
and defeated, often hearing the mocking question, “Who’s walking who ”
Hope arrived with Laurie, a young dog trainer. She explained that Casey was a hound — born to hunt. Laurie
taught us not to yell in panic, but to use a firm, confident voice to break his focus. I practiced shouting, “Casey!”
with authority, something that had always been hard for me. When he listened, he would get a treat and a “Good
boy”. It was a new language we were learning together.
Slowly, the chaos began to abate. We started walking together not as enemies, but as a team. I learned his
habits, and he began to respond to my voice. The constant pulling turned into a gentle rhythm except for an
occasional excited one, the clinking of his tags keeping time with my steps. My frustration softened into
understanding, and then, into love.
The greatest gift, however, was peace. I had always been a restless sleeper. One sleepless night, I found Casey
第 4页/共 17页
sound asleep on the couch, breathing deeply and calmly. I lay my head on his warm chest, and for the first time, felt
my worries melt away with his steady breath.
This unexpected companion, once a source of anxiety, had quietly taught me how to find rest and acceptance.
He was no longer just Paul’s dog; he had become the heart of our home.
4. How did the author initially feel about walking the dog
A. Scared. B. Doubtful. C. Indifferent. D. Frustrated.
5 Why did Casey behave badly during walks at the beginning
A. He couldn’t resist his nature to explore. B. He wasn’t familiar with the routes well.
C. He couldn’t concentrate without a trainer. D. He didn’t like the author’s initial approach.
6. What does the underlined word “abate” in paragraph 4 mean
A Cease. B. Unfold. C. Fade. D. Develop.
7. What was the greatest gift the author received from Casey
A. A positive attitude. B. A close friendship.
C. A sense of belonging. D. A cure for restlessness.
C
In a world overflowing with information, it may seem odd that people often go out of their way not to learn
something. Whether it’s skipping a follow-up doctor’s visit or refusing to read a disturbing news article, this
tendency (倾向) has a name: the “Ostrich Effect.” Like the bird burying its head in the sand, we sometimes choose
ignorance over knowledge when the truth feels uncomfortable.
But when does this habit begin According to a study led by scholar Radhika, it begins earlier than many
might expect. The research found that while 5-and 6-year-olds are still eager seekers of information, children
between ages 7 and 10 begin showing clear signs of avoidance.
In one experiment, children were asked to imagine their favorite and least favorite candy. Then came the
choice: Would they like to watch a video about why eating that candy was bad for their teeth Younger children
wanted to know — good or bad, the information itself was exciting. Older children, however, hesitated. They
were much less interested in hearing about the disadvantages of their favorite treat, though they had no problem
learning why their least favorite candy was bad.
This transformation suggests something deep: children begin to manage their emotions by controlling the
information they let in. Where curiosity once dominated, self-protection begins to take root. So why do children
第 5页/共 17页
transform from fearless learners into strategic avoiders The answer lies in emotions. Information often carries
consequences for how we feel. News about our health, abilities, or beliefs can generate anxiety, depression or
shame. By avoiding knowledge, people protect themselves, at least in the short term, from negative emotions.
Yet when people purposely ignore perspectives that challenge their worldview, they lose opportunities for
growth and connection. This is why researchers stress the importance of teaching children not only to value
curiosity but also to develop resilience (韧性) when facing uncomfortable truths. Learning to tolerate uncertainty
and to value difficult information could help prevent avoidance from hardening into adulthood.
8. Which of the following tendencies illustrates the “Ostrich Effect”
A. Reading disturbing news daily.
B. Skipping a routine physical examination.
C. Scheduling a follow-up meeting with a doctor.
D. Ignoring the presence of others when buried in books.
9. What can be learned about the older children in the experiment
A. They readily watched the video about sweets.
B. They wondered about the harm of the candies.
C. They denied the negative effects of their favourite treat.
D. They tended to avoid bad news about their desired candy.
10. What is paragraph 4 mainly about
A. The impact of negative emotions on children’s curiosity.
B. The supporting evidence for children’s habitual avoidance.
C. The explanation for children’s change into information avoiders.
D. The reason for children’s doubt about uncomfortable information.
11. What should be taught to children according to the research
A. To choose growth over comfort. B. To commit themselves to finding the truth.
C. To prioritize knowledge over safety. D. To tolerate uncertainty and misinformation.
D
Does the silencing of our soundscapes (声音美景) matter to us The short answer is yes. There is growing
evidence about the health benefits of spending time in nature, including reducing risks of heart disease, diabetes
and anxiety. Yet while the general benefits of being outside in nature may seem natural, the contributions of natural
sounds to this are less understood.
第 6页/共 17页
So as part of our research, we explored the experience of 186 wine-tour participants across three vineyards (葡
萄园) with varying soundscapes. We also increased some vineyard soundscapes with hidden speakers, which
played the songs of five additional bird species. This was designed to see how participants’ engagement with nature
would be affected by increasing the diversity of birds and songs, as well as the overall volume (音量).
The results were fascinating. Paul Harrison, the manager at Saffron Grange, summarized: “What was
surprising was the significant impact that birdsong has on people.” Visitors who experienced louder and more
complex sounds reported that they had enjoyed the sounds more. They also felt more connected to nature and more
satisfied with their tour. With richer soundscapes, they felt more mindful and positive during the tours, reporting
that they felt freer from work, routine and responsibility.
We enjoy nature’s benefits subconsciously, which means, as Harrison pointed out, that it’s easy to take them
for granted: “We all benefit from the soundscape of the vineyard daily and maybe when it is so frequent we don’t
fully realize how that positively impacts well-being compared to other work settings.”
Our study is a clear demonstration of the direct effect that birdsong has on our well-being. It shows that bird
conservation could increase our experience of spending time in nature and bring positive emotions. The world we
experience today is unlike what our grandparents experienced. We are increasingly disconnected from nature, and
nature’s benefits on our well-being are lessening as a result.
Our study presents a strong argument for protecting natural soundscapes. We showed that even an hour’s
exposure to diverse and loud birdsong can lead to feelings of optimism and relaxation. So, we hope businesses and
people will be inspired to invest in conservation and promote nature engagement in creative settings.
12. What’s the result of the research
A. The louder sounds the participants heard, the more stressed they felt.
B. The richer sounds the participants heard, the less pleasant the tour was.
C. The louder sounds the participants heard, the more enjoyable the tour was.
D. The more complex sounds the participants heard, the less connected they felt with nature.
13. Why did the author list many benefits of natural soundscapes
A. To silence natural soundscapes.
B. To display natural soundscapes.
C. To overlook natural soundscapes.
D. To highlight natural soundscapes.
14. What does the author hope the study will achieve
第 7页/共 17页
A. More awareness of vineyard tourism among the public.
B. Standardization of soundscape measurement techniques.
C. An increase in the number of bird species in urban areas.
D. Greater investment in bird conservation and natural soundscapes.
15. What’s the text mainly about
A. Why we should protect wildlife.
B. How we can benefit from society.
C. Why birdsong matters more than we think.
D. How we promote nature engagement in creative settings.

Have you noticed how deeply AI is integrating into kids’ lives Last month, I watched my 8-year-old niece
learn math from an AI tutor one minute and laugh at AI-generated cartoons the next. My nephew, too, is obsessed
with his smart, chatty doll and can’t tear himself away from it. Honestly, AI has made kids’ learning and play more
dynamic and fun. ____16____. It’s time to pause and think about how kids can safely navigate growth in this
digital era.
Direct risks aren’t theoretical — they come from the misuse or malfunction of AI. Kids sometimes use AI to
copy homework, or create “deepfake” videos to bully classmates. ____17____. Some chatbots even encourage
self-harming behaviour among children. Let’s be real, most little ones lack the ability to use AI responsibly or
distinguish fact from falsehood, which put them at a higher risk.
Beyond these obvious risks, more hidden ones arise even when AI works as designed. My niece told me that
after she watched a recommended video, her tablet would show her similar content over and over again.
____18____. These are what people called “information bubbles” — trapping people in a narrow cycle of content.
For kids who are still developing thinking skills, this kind of controlled information flow may limit their
perspectives and affect cognitive growth
____19____. My nephew, for instance, prefers talking to his AI companion over his classmates. Unlike
humans, the AI toy rarely argues or criticizes. What’s worrying is that if kids overly rely on this one-sided way of
communication, they might lose the ability to handle disagreements or reach compromises when they grow up.
To address these issues, we need both immediate actions and long-term strategies. Governments should set age
limits on certain AI apps, while parents should evaluate AI tools for their kids carefully. ____20____. As a place
第 8页/共 17页
where much of childhood plays out, they should take advantage of the educational setting to teach things that AI
can’t: how to debate, how to cooperate, and perhaps even how to appreciate different viewpoints.
A. Beyond these efforts, schools play a key role
B. AI tutors occasionally supply inaccurate content
C. AI has undoubtedly made learning more engaging for students
D. One-sided relationships with AI chatbots present a similar danger
E. Consequently, strict parental control over screen time is crucially important
F. The technology can quickly learn users’ preferences and created “echo chambers”
G. However, these benefits come with significant risks that demand our shared attention

In our cozy little house nestled at the end of a quiet street, my sister Oscar and I were bustling (忙碌的) about,
filled with anticipation for Mother’s Day. Our mother Clare was the heart of our family. She was the type of mom
who always put our needs first, sacrificing her own desires for our happiness.
Growing up, we established a beautiful tradition that each year, we would surprise her with a special gift to
show our gratitude and love. This year, Oscar came up with a brilliant idea: “What if we made her a long and
beautiful dress ” she exclaimed, her voice filled with excitement. As I recalled, since the day we were born, Mom
hadn’t bought herself a beautiful new dress, so I knew we had to make this year’s surprise truly special.
With that thought in mind, we set to work. I grabbed my drawing book and began to design, my pencil
dancing across the page; while Oscar with her perfect sense of measurement and love for sewing. she got down to
handling the cloth. Her eyes shone with concentration, while I focused on the beautiful patterns on the dress. Soon,
the dress began to take shape — it was such a magnificent long dress, and we carefully wrapped it in gift paper.
But then came the question: where to hide it for the surprise to be revealed at dinner We put our heads

together, brainstorming the perfect hiding spot. “Nobody would think to look in my bedroom closet.” I suggested
Oscar giggled, nodding in agreement, but we both neglected the fact that our two playful cats could be a problem.
Finally, the moment arrived. After dessert, I exchanged a knowing look with Oscar. It was time to unveil our
creation! We dashed to our bedroom together, my heart pounding in my chest as I flung open the closet door.

【答案】 “NO!” I yelled, seeing our cats dashed out of the closet. My eyes widened in horror as I saw the
gift-wrapped dress on the floor, torn and tattered. Oscar’s face paled as we both stared at the ruined surprise. Tears
welled up in my eyes. How could this have happened But there was no time to wallow in disappointment. We had
to think fast.
“Where did you get such a beautiful scarf ” Mom asked. I looked at Oscar, panic-stricken. Then, on the spur
of the moment, I grabbed the torn pieces of fabric and held them up. “Mom, this was supposed to be a dress for you.
We made it with all our love. But the cats got to it.” Mom’s eyes filled with emotion. She took the pieces from me
and hugged us both. “This is the most beautiful ‘scarf’ I’ve ever seen. It’s filled with your love and that’s all that
matters.”
