In 1987, educational theorist Neil Fleming set out to help students adapt their practices to better help them keep new information. And so, he created the VARK learning styles: Visual,

)
Although the VARK learning styles have been widely regarded as helpful for students who have a better understanding of themselves and how to direct their studying, it has its
disadvantages. Despite one learning style making it easier for you to study, it can in some ways be a barrier (阻碍). What if you struggle to learn a particular subject using a specific learning style It can often lead you to feel as though you’ll never be able to understand the information — rather than thinking another method might work better. It’s common for learners to benefit from more
than one learning style; e.g. watching a video of someone putting together furniture (kinaesthetic) and then following the diagram themselves (visual).
So, although the VARK learning styles may be a great way to better understand how best you learn, it’s important to play around with different study methods to see which works best for you, especially when approaching different subjects. Kinaesthetic learning might be great for
helping you understand how gravity works, but it might not be so helpful for poetry analysis.
Trying a combination of different learning styles won’t only help you improve your
concentration and study motivation, but you’ll also become a more effective learner, spending time on the activities that are going to help you achieve the most effect.
1 .Why did Neil Fleming create the VARK learning styles
A .To help students learn better. B .To form a new educational theory.
C .To improve learners’ visual memory. D .To replace traditional learning methods.
2 .Which activity best fits the Auditory learning style

A .Build a 3D model of a cell structure. B .Write summaries of a science textbook.
C .Draw mindmaps for a history lesson. D .Listen to the radio and repeat key points.

American actor Marc Herrmann says he’s finally able to call himself a full-time working actor — thanks to Chinese micro dramas. He’s one of many Hollywood professionals finding
opportunity as China’s short drama platforms gain popularity in the U.S. and reshape the global streaming (流媒体) market.
Behind the boom is the fact that China’s mini-drama industry has developed a complete
ecosystem, reshaping the viewer market in film and TV with its “short, fast, and catchy” features. According to the 2024 White Paper on the Development of China’s Short Drama Industry, the
American micro-short drama market reached 50.4 billion yuan (about $7.03 billion) last year,
beating box office income for the first time. The success of Chinese short dramas overseas is not about spreading domestic (国内的) content, but about localized reinvention in themes and visual language for the overseas market.
Xu Wensong, an associate professor at the School of Cultural Industry Management at the Communication University of China, told us that Chinese short dramas are characterized by
appealing storylines, an ability to deliver high emotional value and instant entertainment. With
improving production quality, these short dramas hold a certain competitive edge in international markets. “Chinese platforms are good at adjusting content to local tastes”, Xu said.
Micro drama production has restructured the traditional logic of the film and television
industry. A Hollywood film editor said that an increasing number of micro dramas funded by
Chinese companies, developed by Chinese creative teams, and starring Hollywood actors are
being produced in Los Angeles. This, he said, has “rescued” many Hollywood professionals who were on the brink of unemployment.
Sun Jiashan, an associate researcher at the Central Academy of Culture and Tourism Administration, noted that the overseas development of Chinese micro dramas symbolizes a
significant practice of“cultural output in the digital age” . Sun believes that micro dramas may
become an important tool for China’s cultural soft power, carving out a different path in the global streaming competition.
4 .Why are Chinese short dramas successful overseas
A .Because they meet local tastes.
B .Because they display domestic content.
C .Because they reshape the global streaming market.
D .Because they have developed a complete ecosystem.
5.According to Xu Wensong, which of the following is the characteristic of Chinese short drama
A .Classic roles. B .Plain stories.
C .Emotional value. D .Localized settings.
6 .What does the underlined phrase “on the brink of” in paragraph 4 probably mean
A .Close to. B .Aware of. C .Confused about. D .Terrified of.
7 .What might Sun Jiashan probably agree with about Chinese short dramas
A .They have promoted economy in USA.
B .They can serve as a cultural messenger.
C .They have revived the Hollywood industry.
D .They can stand for the Chinese streaming soft power.

Sunscreen (防晒霜) is important for keeping skin safe from sun damage and preventing skin cancer. The chemicals in many sunscreens, however, can be harmful for sea life. This has inspired scientists to develop a new kind of sunscreen made from flower pollen (花粉).
Sunscreen works by using special chemicals that block ultraviolet (UV) light from the
Sun’s rays, and people often apply it to their skin before going into the ocean or other natural
waterways. But the chemicals are washed off by the water and spread into it, affecting the wildlife that lives there. This is especially harmful for coral reefs (珊瑚礁), which support a wide variety of fish, plants, and other underwater life.
To find an alternative, scientists from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore
turned to pollen, which is known to be resistant to UV light. The team prepared water-based gels
(凝胶) made from pollen of camellia flowers and sunflowers. Then they tested how well those
gels blocked UV light, including both UVA and UVB-wavelengths of UV light -produced by the Sun and tanning beds, that damage skin. Both gels took in UV rays, the team found, but the
camellia gel took in more UVB rays, shorter wavelength rays mainly responsible for causing
sunburn and skin cancers, than the sunflower gel did. When tested on mice, both gels prevented skin damage when the mice were put in UV light for a few minutes per day. Mice that didn’t
receive sunscreen had thinner skin after the same UV experience. The team also put samples of the gels in saltwater tanks containing coral, which still appeared healthy after two months.
“What they’re doing are first steps, but they’re really important first steps,” said Craig
Downs, the executive director of Haereticus Environmental Laboratory, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving ecosystems. Some of the next steps might be to assess whether the
pollen-based sunscreen is harmful to other wildlife in natural environments, then clear safety tests in humans. “But if they are successful,” Downs added, “in five to eight years, this might be a
marketable product.”
8 .Why did scientists develop pollen-based sunscreen
A .For low costs. B .For skin safety.
C .For sea reservation. D .For economic benefits.
9 .What can we infer from paragraph 3
A .Sunflower gel takes in most of the UVB rays.
B .Sunflower gel is responsible for causing skin damage.
C .Camellia gel left the mice with thinner skin than regular sunscreen.
D .Camellia gel is more effective in UV protection than sunflower one.
10 .What did Craig Downs think of the pollen-based sunscreen
A .Profitable. B .Dangerous. C .Demanding. D .Alarming.
11 .Which of the following can be a suitable title for the passage
A .The History of Sunscreen Development.
B .Pollen-Based Sunscreen: A Safe Choice.
C .UV Light: The Main Cause of Skin Damage.
D .The preservation of Coral Reefs from Sunscreen.

When plates are set on the table, phones, rather than forks, are at the ready. At this point in our social media entanglement (纠缠), the fact that the camera eats first is pretty much a given. Sure, some chefs, including Michelin rated star chefs, express their displeasure at this, but efforts to make the table a screen-free domain have mostly fallen flat.
New research from Aston University has found that people are indeed influenced by the
food photos that their friends post on social media. For example, for every serving of fruits and
vegetables that a person thinks their friends are eating, they’ll eat one-fifth of a serving more. This number makes more sense within the context of the recommended “five a day”, meaning someone who’s being influenced would make a point of eating six portions of fruits or vegetables.
Similarly, for every three portions of junk food that a person sees friends consuming on social media, they’ll eat an extra one.
The researchers have also suggested that social media can be very beneficial when it comes to people’s choices of food and their diets. Study supervisors Dr. Jason Thomas said, “The
implication is that we can use social media as a tool to encourage each other’s eating choice within friendship groups, and use this knowledge as a tool for public health interventions.”
Actually, the daily food situation is somewhat different from everything else posted on social media. People also desire to copy what they see but they need good social media literacy skills in order to grasp what’s realistic and what’s absurd. It is necessary to avoid the fake
perfection of social media.
It gets boring trying to figure out what to eat three times a day, week after week, so no
wonder people want to take the path of least resistance and eat what their friends are eating.
Unfortunately, most of what gets posted is the more time-consuming recipes or the attractively
styled restaurant meals. By all means, keep your antennae (触角) out for new ideas, but gather
them from food magazines, cookbooks, store flyers, reliable cooking websites, and recommended recipes from friends and family.
12 .What phenomenon is talked about in Para.1
A .The influence of social media on people’s diet.
B .People’s taking photos of food before eating.
C .Chefs’ efforts to make the table screen-free.

B .They’ll take junk food more seriously.
C .They’ll consume more than their friends.
D .They’ll care more about their friends’ eating habits.
14 .What’s Dr. Jason Thomas’s attitude towards social media
A .Positive. B .Doubtful. C .Concerned. D .Unclear.
15 .What does the author intend to do in the last paragraph
A .Point out the unreality of social media.
B .Call on people to enrich their knowledge in cooking.

Alex loved the school garden more than anything. Every day, Alex would rush to the garden right after class. The garden was usually filled with busy bees and butterflies.
But today, something was wrong. Alex noticed that the garden was quiet. There were no
bees buzzing (发出嗡嗡声) around the flowers. There were no butterflies dancing in the air either. “Where did everyone go ” Alex wondered. Ms. Green, the kind teacher who took care of the
garden, noticed Alex’s worried face. She gently asked, “What s wrong, Alex ”
Alex said, “The bees and butterflies are gone! The garden doesn t feel happy without their buzz.” Ms. Green nodded slowly and said, “You re right, Alex. The garden does feel a little empty without them. They help the flowers make fruits and seeds (种子). Without them, the garden
wouldn t be so colorful.” Alex listened carefully and wanted to do something to help the garden.
Ms. Green suggested finding out why the bees and butterflies were gone. Together, they went to the school library. They discovered that bees and butterflies need flowers with sweet
nectar (花蜜) and safe places to build nests (巢). With this in mind, they decided to plant more nectar-rich flowers and create a safe space where the insects could rest and make their homes.
The next day, Alex and Ms. Green started their project. Ms. Green showed Alex how to prepare the soil for the new flowers. Alex carefully dug small holes and gently placed the seeds and small plants in them. They planted bright sunflowers, sweet-smelling lavender and colorful zinnias. Bees and butterflies love those flowers!
Then, they started working on making a bee house and a butterfly house. Ms. Green
brought some pieces of wood and showed Alex how to build a small wooden house. They made small holes for the bees to get into and comfortable places for the butterflies to rest. The garden was starting to look like a welcoming place for the insects.

空格后“capital of the Song Dynasty” (宋朝的都城)是对“Bianjing(汴京)”的同位语,需用定冠词 the 修饰。故填 the。

故填 what。
serve as a window to...“作为通往 的窗口” 。故填 to。
