Unit 4 I used to be afraid of the dark.
I used to be afraid of the dark.
(1). used to do sth
(2). be used to doing sth
(3). be used to do sth被用来做某事(其实是use sth to do sth的被动语态形式)
e.g. I used to take the bus to work, but now I am used to going to work on foot.
Camels are used to carry heavy things by people in desert.
It’s been three years since we last saw our primary school classmates.
错误句子“非延续动词与for, since, how long连用”的四种修改方法:
e.g. 错句:They have got married for ten years.
修改:They got married ten years ago.
They have been married for ten years.
It is / has been ten years since they got married. (It is / has been + 时间段 + since…)
Ten years has passed since they got married. (时间段 has passed + since…)
As she got better, she dared to sing in front of her class, and then for the whole school.
e.g. As time goes by, some friendship disappear.
A message arrived just as the two men were leaving.
e.g. Do it as I told you. I’ll treat him as I would like to be treated.
e.g. As you were out, I left a message. She may need help as she’s new.
e.g. As you know, Julia is leaving soon. As a saying goes, Each coin has two sides.
As I explained on the phone, your request will be considered at the next meeting.
4.课文原句:..., she dared to sing in front of her class, and then for the whole school.
e.g. She dared to sing in front of her class.
Only he of all the students dared to question his teacher.
He didn’t dare (to) say what he thought.
e.g. The bad guy daren’t ask me for any more money after the big fight.
How dare you talk to me like that
Only a very small of people make it to the top.
make it还有两个意思:
e.g. You will make it until you really try.
When shall we meet again
— Make it any day you like.
He found life there difficult.
e.g. We made him our group leader. Who made you cry
I smell something burning in the kitchen.
I want her to leave. I saw him killed / playing soccer on the street.
I’m much happier now, and I work even harder than I used to.
e.g. — Would you like to come — Sure, I’d love to.
Could you help me carry the box to my office — I’m glad to.
The boy wanted to ride his new bike to school, but mom didn’t allow him to.
I do remember one bad thing about primary school though.
e.g. I like him, though he makes me annoyed sometimes.
It sounds like a lot of fun. Isn’t it quite risky though
