Unit 3 Could you please tell me where the restrooms are
I was scared at first, but shouting did help.
e.g. I do believe. She does like dogs. Do tell him about it.
e.g. I got the star’s autograph last night.
→ It was I who / that got the star’s autograph last night.
→ It was the star’s autograph that I got last night.
→ It was last night that I got the star’s autograph.
I suggest Jenny’s Clothes Store in Century Shopping Mall. It’s convenient to get to.
(1) suggest (sb/ one’s) doing sth,注意区别搭配的不同:advise doing sth和advise sb to do sth
e.g. Can you suggest a good dictionary I suggest (his/ him) going in my car.
(2) suggest + that从句,此句型中that从句的谓语部分为:should + do sth,should也可以省略。
e.g. I suggest that he (should) go in my car. I suggest you call him first.
We requested that he (should) leave the room as soon as possible.
His expression suggested that he was angry.
My suggestion is that she (should) give up the job.
e.g. Let me give you some suggestions and advice about Chinese customs.
Polite questions include expressions such as “Could you please… ” or “May I ask… ”
e.g. You should include some examples in your composition. (include sth)
Your job includes printing papers and answering the phone. (include doing sth)
在including sth = sth included的结构中,including和included是介词
e.g. Six people were killed in the accident, including a policewoman / a policewoman included.
I’ll be coming to your school for the concert.
e.g. We’ll have finished in June next year.
If I took his advice then, I wouldn’t have made the trouble.
The expressions they use might depend on whom they are speaking to or how well they know each other.
e.g. Who / Whom did you talk with just now
= With whom did you talk just now
He is a helpful person who / whom we should learn from.
= He is a helpful person from whom we should learn.

Margaret Steiff, a German woman, created the first teddy bear over 100 years ago. 31 She was a seamstress(女裁缝) who fell into toy making by chance.
Margarita had polio(小儿麻痹症) as a kid and she was never able to walk. So when she became a young woman, she needed to find work she could do while sitting in a wheelchair. She decided to become a seamstress. 32
One Day Margaret was looking through a fashion magazine and spotted a pattern for a toy elephant made of cloth. She made several elephants and gave them friends as gifts. 33 She began making little bears, dogs, and donkeys and selling them, in addition to selling dresses.
By 1897 Margaret was selling more toys than dresses. 34 The most popular toys were the cloth bears. In the United States, the bears were an instant hit(瞬间流行). They were called “teddy bears” after President Theodore Roosevelt, whose nickname was Teddy.
The Steiff Company is still in business in Germany. 35 It is the old teddy bears, however, the ones that Margaret Steiff and her forty employees made really valuable. This Steiff teddy bear, which was made in 1905, is in almost perfect condition.
