Do all sharks swim fast Meet the Greenland shark! It’s the slowest shark in the
ocean. This amazing animal swims slower than you walk to school.
The Greenland shark lives in the cold waters of the Arctic Ocean and the North
Atlantic Ocean (北大西洋 ). During the summer, it likes to hang out close to land.
When winter comes, it moves to the deeper (更深的) sea. The Greenland shark swims
about 2 kilometers per hour. That means you can have a race with it and win easily!
So, why does the Greenland shark swim so slowly One reason is that its home is
cold. That makes its body move very slowly. When other sharks rush around, the
Greenland shark just enjoys the sweet time.
There is another amazing fact about the Greenland shark. It lives longer than any
other vertebrate (脊椎动物). It can live up to 500 years. Why One reason is that it
has slow metabolism (新陈代谢 ). It doesn’t need much food because it uses its
energy very slowly. Just like other animals with slow metabolism, its slow
metabolism helps it live much longer.
