I’m James. Burned out from work, I found life had become flat and that I desperately needed something to shift my focus. One night I came across a website recommending scuba (水肺) diving lessons. I hadn’t ever thought much about the idea of diving before; but its complete unfamiliarity fueled my interest; I decided to give it a shot! I had my training lessons at an indoor swimming pool. After completing the courses, I felt a sense of great satisfaction and achievement for overcoming the initial fear and discomfort of breathing underwater.
Knowing I hadn’t yet experienced what real scuba diving is all about, I spent hours researching where the best places to dive were. But before I knew it, I had been on an airplane to Belize. Less than 24 hours after my arrival, and minutes into my first ocean dive, I was literally diving head first into the deep end, finding myself 80 feet underwater. It’s the kind of extraordinary water having such great visibility that you can see clearly for hundreds of feet around you.
Within minutes our 4-person dive group was surrounded by numerous nurse sharks, a moray eel (海鳗), large groupers and sea turtles. I was madly in love with scuba diving. As we reached the bottom a lone nurse shark swam right under me. More started to arrive. Just as I was shooting pictures of the action and not paying attention to anything or anyone else around, I looked up to see a bright green threatening face headed straight for me. He wasn’t the least bit shy. He has apparently never heard of personal space. After he decided to swim by me without causing any bodily harm, I was both relieved and excited.
This will always be that one special dive that changed everything and I get to watch it any time I find myself missing the water.
24.What pushed James to try scuba diving
A.Online low-price campaigns.
B.Love for underwater events.
C.Cut- throat career challenges.
D.Thirst for fresh experiences.
25.What do we know about James’s first ocean dive
A.He didn’t adopt a gradual strategy.
B.He didn’t use former diving skills.
C.He found the best diving location.
D.He made friends with other divers.
26.Why did James mention sea animals
A.To underline their diversity.
B.To introduce their wildness.
C.To demonstrate diving appeal.
D.To promote ocean exploration.
27.What is the suitable title for the text
A.When to chase novelty
B.What underwater thrill
C.Why swim deep down

As a librarian, I am often asked: Does listening to audiobooks qualify as reading Many people don’t think so. There is a snobbishness to reading a physical book. Telling someone that you have only listened to a certain book usually comes out sounding like an apology.
Sure, audiobooks don’t count as reading in an extremely literal linguistic sense. You, the listener, are hearing someone else read a book, instead of looking at the words. But when we talk about “reading a book”, I don’t think anyone cares about how you’re taking it in.
Audiobooks can offer a vastly different experience from reading yourself, and that’s because narrators (主播) can add so much to a story. I recently listened to Woodworking, which had three narrators at three extremely different points in their lives. The three audiobook performers brought extra depth and humor to the reading that I couldn’t have gotten just reading alone.
There’s also something extra convenient about audiobooks. When I travel on public transport and can’t get a seat, holding a physical book in my hands is hard; but I can listen to an audiobook anywhere. They’re always wonderful for multitasking, whether that’s listening while doing the dishes, cleaning the bathroom or, my personal favorite, doing a craft.
In 2022, the National Endowment for the Arts reported that 48.5 percent of adults said they had read at least one book in the past year, down from 52.7 percent five years earlier. At a time when fewer people are reading books, this audiobook debate can feel like a silly distraction from what really matters: Keeping books in the hands that need them, in any format at all.
I read because I love stories. And, yes, that connection to the story, or essay or memoir might feel a little different depending on whether I read the words on the page or hear them performed by an audiobook narrator. But both are worth celebrating — and neither is better than the other.
28.What does the underlined word “snobbishness” in paragraph 1 probably mean
A.A lack of interest.
B.A habit of apologizing.
C.A feeling of superiority.
D.A desire to read more books.
29.What benefit of audiobooks is stressed in paragraph 3
A.They simplify complicated plots.
B.They make listeners more focused.
C.They allow access to more authors.
D.They bring greater richness to stories.
30.According to the author, what matters more
A.Improving the quality of books,
B.Encouraging more people to read.
C.Exploring more formats of reading.
D.Keeping books accessible to readers.
31.What is the best title for the text
A.Audiobooks: A New Reading Trend
B.Audiobooks: A Bridge Connecting Readers
C.Audiobooks: Narrators Bring Stories to Life
D.Audiobooks: Every Form of Reading Counts
Around Christmas, 50-year-old New Yorker Holly Jespersen felt unwell but hesitated to see a doctor. She turned to ChatGPT, which advised her against visiting. Days later, with a high fever and headaches, again using the chatbot to decide when, she finally went to urgent care and was diagnosed with influenza A.
Holly is far from alone. According to OpenAI, over 40 million daily health-related enquiries, with 230 million weekly. In January, it announced ChatGPT Health, allowing users to upload medical records for customized (定制的) support. The company stresses it is meant to “support, not replace” medical care, not for diagnosis or treatment, but to help with everyday questions and pattern recognition.
Yet concerns arise. Family physician Dr. Alexa Mieses Malchuk warns that ChatGPT, like WebMD, prioritizes being helpful over accurate. A 2023 study found ChatGPT’s cancer treatment plans contained many errors, some hard even for experts to detect. However, newer research on colon cancer showed its answers on symptoms and prevention were highly accurate, suggesting LLMs (大型语言模型) may assist patient education but not clinical decisions.
Beyond accuracy, psychologists highlight anxiety risks. A 2013 study confirmed that online symptom searches can intensify health anxiety, especially for those intolerant of uncertainty. Clinical psychologist Elizabeth Sadock notes that ChatGPT, always available and affirming, fuels reassurance-seeking (寻求慰藉) behavior, trapping users in a cycle of anxiety. For some patients, limiting ChatGPT use may now be part of treatment.
Privacy is another puzzle. Biomedical informatics professor Bradley Malin acknowledges OpenAI’s security efforts, but stresses ChatGPT Health falls outside HIPAA regulation. Patients may unknowingly lose legal protections when their data flows from secured medical records to an unregulated third party.
Yet some see value. Dermatologist Kumar views ChatGPT Health as educational, clarifying terms like sunscreen types, not diagnostic. He distinguishes it from WebMD’s curated, reviewed content, while ChatGPT’s AI may mislead.
Thus, ChatGPT Health enters America’s broken system as a double-edged sword: a round-the-clock assistant that may empower (赋权) patients, yet risks misinforming, over-reassuring, and exposing them to unregulated data practices.
32.Why does OpenAI launch ChatGPT Health
A.To replace medical care totally. B.To provide consultation timely.
C.To treat the patients early. D.To diagnose diseases quickly.
33.What can we learn from paragraphs 3-5
A.ChatGPT may lead to more risks than benefits.
B.ChatGPT is always available, helpful and accurate.
C.Psychologists advise people not to use ChatGPT.
D.People will have no privacy when using ChatGPT.
34.How does Kumar find ChatGPT
A.It teaches patients some medical terms.
B.It can be used as an assistant to patients.
C.It can help more patients cure diseases.
D.It has more advantages than disadvantages.
35.What is the author’s attitude toward ChatGPT Health
A.Enthusiastic and supportive. B.Cautious and optimistic.
C.Disapproving and negative. D.Critical and loyal.
We’ve all been there after a long trip — staring blankly at emails, counting the hours until bed. Yet when 2 a. m. hits, you’re still wide awake, mindlessly looking through social media, trapped in the control of jet lag. 36
Our internal clock governs everything from sleep to digestion to hormones (激素分泌) and uses light to maintain its natural 24-hour cycle. But when we land in a new time zone and day suddenly turns to night, this rhythm is thrown off balance. 37 But scientists have found ways to help our bodies keep up. Even reducing jet lag by a day can improve the productivity and well-being of so many people.
The best strategy 38 For example, Timeshifter, an app developed by a neuroscientist and his team, suggests a personalized schedule for light exposure and sleep based on flight arrangements.
39 While the brain is our master clock, other tissues like the liver and muscles have their own clocks that regulate metabolism (新陈代谢), the body’s process of turning food into energy. That is, meal timing and composition could also be key to reducing jet lag.
In reality, there are lots of things that come into effect. 40 While we don’t yet have a way to comprehensively avoid jet lag, researchers and airlines aren’t asleep on the job in their hunt for a cure.
A.A complete cure for jet lag is unlikely to find.
B.Jet lag can affect people’s eating habits and sleep patterns.
C.That’s the price for crossing time zones too fast.
D.There are some tools to help with this, of course.
E.Different people have different rhythms.
F.The most important step is to control when you get sunlight.
G.However, jet lag isn’t just about light exposure and sleep.

Jeremy likes to help his family with chores (家务). He spends time playing with his baby sister while Mom cooks dinner. After supper, he dries the dishes for Dad. But Jeremy’s favorite job is feeding Fletch.
Fletch is the family cat. He is brown and black, with tiger stripes across his back. Fletch lets Jeremy know he’s hungry by bumping his head on Jeremy’s legs.
One night after supper, Mom asked Jeremy to find Baby Suzy’s doll. “I think she dropped it in the back yard this afternoon. She won’t be able to sleep without it. Can you take a look before it gets dark ”
Jeremy opened the kitchen door and ran outside. The bright red doll was easy to find in the grass. Jeremy grabbed it and ran inside.
Later that night, Jeremy was ready for bed. He always said goodnight to Fletch before turning out the light, but Fletch wasn’t in his room. Jeremy looked in the bathroom and hallway. Then he went downstairs.
Jeremy looked in the living room and dining room, but Fletch was not there.
With almost every corner of the house searched, Jeremy could barely see Fletch’s figure, a wave of anxiety sweeping over Jeremy. When he got to the kitchen with butterflies in his stomach, Jeremy began to cry.
Mom looked up from her tea. “Jeremy, you should be in bed! What’s wrong ”
Jeremy gasped (喘息) for breath. “The back door is open!” he cried. “And I can’t find Fletch anywhere!”
Mom frowned. “I think you’re right to be worried,” she said slowly. “Fletch may have slipped out the door.”

【原文】 W: Hi my name’s Britt Foxton, and I’m the founder of a website devoted to women’s basketball, and I’ve also just written a book on the same subject. But first up, let me tell you how I got started with the site.
Although it really got going once I was at university, it actually started out as a high-school project — you know a “design a website” kind of thing — but it wasn’t like anyone expected it to become real or anything. I designed a site about girls’ basketball, which I was passionate about, and called it . I knew the name wasn’t right, and before it got really successful I changed it to and that was a really good move.
And although it started with basketball, the site’s grown to include other games as well. It features a variety of articles and reviews on everything ranging from basketball to computer games, plus some more traditionally “girly” material as well. But the coverage of team sports is at the heart of it, anything about make-up or fashion is just secondary to that.

Strive for Dreams, Sweat for FitnessDear fellow students,
Recently, many of us have been so occupied with exam preparation, shoulders stiff, eyes dry, even depression and inefficiency dragging us back. Buried in endless papers, I still urge all of us to work out regularly, for health is the foundation of academic progress.
Skipping rope is what I strongly recommend. It takes little space, and just 15-20 minutes a day can improve our heart function, build up endurance, and refresh our minds, ultimately refueling our study. Even if the weather is unpleasant or time is tight, we can break it into short indoor sessions that may still help us stay active.
Let’s put down our books for a while and move our bodies. Sweat today, shine tomorrow!

Jeremy had trouble falling asleep. Wide awake, he imagined all the ways Fletch could get hurt outside in the dark, a wave of anxiety sweeping over him once more. With Mum’s comforting words ringing again in his ears, Jeremy sighed with relief and hoped for the best, saying to himself, “Fletch will be all right.” After what seemed a century, Jeremy closed his eyes and finally drifted off to sleep. Then all of a sudden, the sun shone in his eyes, and it was morning.
Jeremy jumped out of the bed, ran straight to the back door and opened it wide. There was Fletch, licking his paws to wash his face. Looking at Jeremy with guilty eyes, Fletch meowed and meowed. Then he slipped inside the door and walked straight to his food bowl. Jeremy called excitedly, “Mum, Fletch is back!” “Thank goodness! Take good care of Fletch, Jeremy!” Mom responded. Jeremy felt extremely relieved that Fletch was safe and sound, promising to close the door nice and tight later on. This time he gave Fletch an extra scoop of cat food, Fletch meowing happily in response.
