第二部分 阅读(共两节,满分50分)

阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
A
Most passwords are still weak. A study by Specops found that 98.5% of real-world passwords are objectively weak. Only 1.5% of passwords made it into the “strong” zone, defined as being at least 15 characters long and using two or more character types. Only 3.3% of passwords were longer than 15 characters. This means that most passwords can be cracked quickly using inexpensive powerful computer tools.
The most common passwords were eight characters long with just two character types, such as “Summer22” or “Office99”. About 8% of all passwords fell into this dangerously basic zone. Close behind were eight-character passwords with only one character type, most often letters alone, and in many cases lowercase letters only. These accounted for another 7.6% of all passwords.
When password length is held constant, security depends largely on the variety of characters used. The table below illustrates this effect.
Character set Size of set Total combinations How long to crack
15 characters password of lowercase only (a-z) 26 2615~1. 68×1021 Easily cracked with powerful tools in days or weeks
15 characters password of lowercase + uppercase (a-z, A-Z) 52 5215~2. 53×1025 Much harder to crack, but still possible over time
15 characters password of alphanumeric (a-z, A-Z, 0-9) 62 6215~7. 70×1026 Very strong passwords for most practical use cases
15 characters password of all printable characters (a-z, A-Z, 0-9, symbols) 94 9415~2. 25×1029 Nearly impossible to crack
In addition to character variety, password length also plays an important role in security. Using passwords of 16 to 20 characters with at least two different character types-letters, numbers, or symbols-pushes the number of possible combinations into the trillions. Even high- end cracking farms would take years or centuries to break them. In reality, however, weak passwords are still very common. As Darren James, Senior Product Manager at Specops, notes, “Many users are still low-hanging fruit for online thieves, who can crack their passwords in seconds.”
21.What percentage of passwords are the most common type
A.1.5%. B.3.3%. C.7.6%. D.8%.
22.What is the main factor the table compares
A.The size of set. B.Use of letters.
C.The cracking method. D.Password length.
23.Why does the author quote Darren James
A.To introduce his company. B.To warn the online thieves.
C.To stress the worrying reality. D.To criticize users for poor choices.

In 1999, Giuliana Furci, founder and founding director of the Fungi (真菌) Foundation, developed a deep interest in fungi. They were everywhere, and the 20-year-old took particular joy in the variety of mushrooms: small and button-shaped; tall and umbrella-like; round with red caps topped with white flakes. Some were commonly found in people’s diets, for they were rich in nutrients such as vitamin, fiber, minerals and protein.
But Furci also quickly realized that these fungi went largely ignored in Chile, where there were few guidebooks and an almost total lack of policies and resources to protect them from over-harvesting and other human activities. Determined to correct this, Furci wrote a field guide and set up the Fungi Foundation—a nonprofit dedicated to fungi conservation. In her guide, special attention went to the role of fungi in the ecosystem.
“Life on the planet wouldn’t exist without fungi,” said Greg Mueller, a mushroom conservation expert. “Because of their relationship with forests and trees, we can’t survive without fungi. In terms of the health of the planet, they’re incredibly important to humans and the overall ecosystem.” Fungi can break down plants and animals, thus cycling nutrients and increasing their availability in the soil. They are also important contributors to the soil carbon stock through the same process. What’s more, fungi have been found to help degrade (降解) various pollutants, such as plastic. And mycelium (菌丝体), which is the root structure of mushrooms, is now being used to replace unsustainable materials, such as plastic and animal-based products.
Because of these, exploration of fungi was expanded at a faster pace. However, some were already listed as critically endangered. In 2010, Furci took an even bigger step—with other environmental nonprofits, she put forward a proposal for the government to systematically assess how large new developments such as housing, dams, and highways affect fungi. In 2012, a law was passed and Chile became the first country in the world to protect fungi by law.
24. What can we learn about Furci from the first two paragraphs
A. She enjoyed collecting mushrooms. B. She was fond of cooking mushrooms.
C. She worried about the situation of fungi. D. She had a habit of writing field guidebooks.
25. What is Paragraph 3 of the text mainly about
A. The life on earth without fungi. B. The importance of fungi on earth.
C. The relations between trees and fungi. D. The practical uses of fungi in the future.
26. How did Furci protect the ecosystem
A. By writing free instructions on plants.
B. By starting a non-profit ecotourism company.
C. By raising awareness of the importance of fungi.
D. By passing laws to ban over-harvesting mushrooms.
27. Which of the following best describes Furci’s work
A. Ground-breaking. B. Debatable.
C. Romantic. D. Unmatched.
C
Most educators know the basics of peer (同龄人) pressure. When peers are around, teenagers take more risks. For example, teenage males drive faster with other boys in the same car because the reward centers of teenagers’ brains are more active with peers than when alone.
However, risk taking in an educational context is an important skill that enables progress and creativity, which is just one of positive peer effects. People often talk about negative (消极的) peer effects but ignore many studies that show a lot of negative behavior of high school kids is discouraged by friends. There is a lot of very positive pressure that peers apply, like, “No, man, that’s stupid.” This prevention is one of the many underreported forms of peer effects.
In a 2018 study of college freshmen, researchers found that having friends with a higher willingness to study is predictive (预测的) of receiving higher freshman grades. Because the study looked at both assigned (指派的) roommate pairings and chosen friend groups, the researchers were able to show the effect wasn’t just a reflection of “selection bias”, with hard-working kids having already chosen to befriend each other. Hanging out with someone who’s hard-working, they concluded, caused teenagers to study for more hours and achieve higher grades. The findings prove previous research showing a connection between how a child views the importance of doing well in school and how their friends do. Similar effects have been proved for volunteer work and health-promotive behaviors, such as exercise.
What does all this mean for educators Effective students can definitely improve classroom situations. In one program, kids were trained to publicly encourage anti-conflict (反冲突) practice. Reports of student conflict dropped 30% over one year. To some extent, this success may lie in the fact that the program got kids’ help. Efforts that engage (使……参与) teens in actual, real-life tasks have been the most promising when it comes to changing the content of the values spread within teenager peer groups.
28. What can bring peer pressure to teenagers
A. Presence of their peers. B. Being cheated by their friends.
C. Encouragement from the elders. D. Stress response in difficult situations.
29. What is most people’s attitude to peer pressure
A. Appreciative. B. Unclear. C. Acceptable. D. Unsupportive.
30. What does paragraph 3 mainly talk about
A. Love me, love my dog. B. No competition, no progress.
C. Kids can be influenced by close association.
D. A true friend reaches for your hand and touches your heart.
31. How can peer pressure be applied to education
A. By sorting classroom activities.
B. By training students to keep away from conflict.
C. By discouraging students from choosing friends.
D. By leading students to positive social activities.
D
Fossilized (化石的) footprints found on a beach in southern Spain reveal what may have been a nursery for an extinct species of elephant.
The track-rich coastal site is typically covered by 1 1/2 meters of sand. Storm surges (风暴潮) in the spring of 2020 washed away much of that sand and exposed the preserved footprints of ancient elephants, cattle, deer, pigs, and so on. The sandy-clay sediments (沉淀物) hosting this treasure of tracks were probably laid down about 106,000 years ago, previous studies suggest.
Among the newly uncovered tracks are the first-of-their kind footprints of newborn straight-tusked elephants, an extinct species that probably died out during the last ice age. The teeny tracks — which measure 9.6 centimeters across, about the size of a drink coaster — suggest that the petite, possibly 2-month-old elephants stood about 66 centimeters tall at their shoulders and weighed around 70 kilograms, slightly heavier than a Newfoundland dog. Based on previous finds elsewhere of actual bones, adult straight-tusked elephants may have weighed 5.5 metric tons for females and 13 tons for males.
The mix of elephant tracks at the site suggests that family groups including newborns youngsters and adult females frequented the area and possibly used it as a nursery, the researchers say. Other fossils found at the site, including those preserving traces of ancient roots, indicate that the area was rich in vegetation and lakes and ponds.
The team’s findings “are a thrilling study,” says Anthony Martin, a trace fossil expert at Emory University in Atlanta, Series of footprints show how the ancient elephants were moving, offer insight into their social structure and even provide a sight of their reproductive ecology, he says, If newborns were part of the family group and “if they were acting anything like modern elephants, the mother had to be nearby,” Martin says.
What’s more, the presence of preserved Neandertal footprints at the site suggests that the ancient people hunted young elephants or other creatures, Martin says. The Neandertals “probably were not foolish enough to take on a full-sized elephant.”
32. What helped the discovery of elephants’ footprints in southern Spain
A. People’s farming. B. The researchers’ efforts.
C. The bad weather. D. Records about the place.
33. What does paragraph 3 mainly tell us
A. The extinction of the elephants. B. Inferrence about the elephants.
C. The course of the new discovery. D. Weigh of straight-tusked elephants.
34. What can we know about the mix of elephant tracks
A. The site was suitable for animals’ living.
B. Volcanoes must have happened in the site.
C. These tracks indicated the danger of the site.
D. Elephants’ enemies must have lived in the site.
35. What can the preserved Neandertal footprints show to us
A. The slow growth of the elephants. B. The movements of the elephants here.
C. The development of elephant species. D. The living style of the local people.

阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Sweating is often seen as a sign of effort in the gym. 36 According to experts like Adam Collins from the University of Bath, the answer is not that simple.
Sweating is primarily your body’s built-in cooling system. 37 The sweat on your skin then absorbs excess body heat as it evaporates (蒸发). This evaporation process is crucial for regulating your temperature.
Exercise is a common cause for this rise in temperature. The more intense your workout, the more heat your body generates 38 . “There are many other factors that influence how much you sweat,” Collins explains. The environmental temperature, humidity (湿度) and your clothing all play significant roles. For instance, in a hot yoga room, you might sweat heavily even in a relaxed pose. In high humidity, sweat evaporates poorly, making you feel sweatier regardless of your actual effort level.
39 This is why two people doing the same workout can sweat very differently. Your fitness level, age, sex, body size, and even how accustomed you are to the local climate affect your sweat rate. A well-trained athlete often starts sweating sooner and more efficiently than a beginner, as their body has adapted to cool itself better.
Therefore, using sweat alone to measure workout intensity is misleading. More accurate indicators include your breathing rate, perceived exertion, and heart rate. Anyway, sweat is not an accurate sign of exercise intensity. 40 .
A.Individual differences are also key.
B.But is it truly a reliable sign of a hard workout
C.This heat is, in fact, your body burning calories.
D.It is a key part of keeping you safe during exercise.
E.This increased heat typically makes you sweat more.
F.It is, however, a clear sign of water loss and a signal to drink water.
G.When your core temperature rises, your brain signals your body to sweat.

Mrs. Bobbin, the dressmaker, was tired and had a bad headache. but she still managed to sew the last stiches in the gown (礼服裙) she was making.
“It’s the most beautiful dress in the whole world!” said her daughter, Irene. “The duchess(公爵夫人)will love it.”
“It is nice,” her mother admitted. “But, darling, it’s for tonight’s ball(舞会), and I don’t have the strength to deliver it. I feel sick.”
“Poor Mama,” said Irene. “I can get it there!”
“No, honey, I can’t let you,” said Mrs. Bobbin. “Such a huge package, and it’s such a long way to the duchess’s house. Besides. it’s starting to snow.”
But Irene insisted. She coaxed her mother into bed, covered her with two quilts. Then with great care, Irene packed the splendid gown in a big box with plenty of tissue paper. She kissed her mother’s hot forehead and slipped out with the big box, shutting the door firmly behind her.
It really was cold outside, very cold. The wind whirled the falling snow-flakes about. It blew so rudely that she could hardly move ahead. Cold snow sifted into her boots and chilled her feet. She pushed out her lip and hurried on. This was an important task.
“Take it easy!” she told herself, leaning back hard against the wind.
“Go home!” the wind shouted. “Irene…go hooome…”
“I will do no such thing,” she snapped. “No such thing, you wicked wind! The gown had to get to the duchess!” She went shuffling through the snow.
“Go ho-o-ome,” the wind screamed.
“GO HO-WO-WOME,” it shrieked, “or else…”
The wind decided to put on a show. It wrestled her for the package—walloped it, twisted it, shook it, snatched at it.
But Irene wouldn’t give up. “It’s my mother’s work!” she screamed. She took hold of the box tightly.

W: I see. So Northerners are more independent
M: Right. How are things in Norway
W: Well, in cold winters people have to help each other. But mountains mean villagers have to rely on themselves, too.
M: So Norwegians are a mix of both That’s a good example for my paper!
W: Yeah, that’s it. Weather really influences how people farm.

【原文】Good evening, and welcome to News Spin. I'm Sarah. Tonight, we’re discussing lab-grown meat, a topic many of you requested. This isn’t science fiction - it’s already approved and served in several Australian restaurants. The technology could help reduce animal killing, feed more families worldwide, and most importantly, cut carbon emissions.
Let me explain how it works. Scientists take a tiny sample of animal cells, feed them nutrients in a controlled environment, and grow them into real muscle tissue in about two weeks, and the result looks and tastes like real meat.
To learn more, we’ve invited Dr. Lisa Park from the National Institute of Agriculture and Food Science. She’s been researching this technology for over eight years. We’ll discuss three key points: safety, cost, and public acceptance.
Before we finish, we’ll do a live taste test of lab-grown chicken and share our honest reviews. You can also vote online.
Stay with us. We’ll be right back after a short break.

第一节(满分15分)
Dear friends,
Do you know the earth is becoming warmer and warmer It is human activity that has caused global warming. A low - carbon lifestyle is the key to handling this big problem.
To fulfill it, we should do our part in our daily life. First, turn off the taps, the lights and so on when we are not using them. It is a good idea to recycle everything recyclable in our daily life. What’s more, motor vehicles use a lot of energy—so walk or ride a bike if we can. It also makes sense to stick to the habit of setting the temperature of our air conditioners at about 26℃ in summer.
Let’s take action now! If we can make small changes in our way of life, we can make a big difference to the earth.
The Student’s Union
第二节(满分25分)
Suddenly Irene stepped in a hole, fell over and her foot got injured. “Keep quiet!” She blamed it on the wind. “You’ve done enough damage already.” The wind swallowed up her words. She sat in the snow in great pain, afraid that she wouldn’t be able to go on. For a short second, Irene wondered if she should follow the wind’s warning. But it was her dear mother’s hard work, all those days of measuring, cutting, pinning, stitching ... And the poor duchess! She must be waiting for the gown anxiously. She managed to get to her feet and start moving again.
Eventually she was at the door of the duchess’s house. She knocked the door and was welcomed by cheering servants and the anxious duchess. They couldn’t believe she had come in such a snowstorm, all by herself. They were so deeply moved by her courage that they immediately served her with a good dinner by the fire. The duchess, meanwhile, got into her gown before the guests arrived. What a wonderful ball it was! The duchess was like a bright star in the sky. “Mama would enjoy hearing all about it.” A smile of relief appeared on Irene’s face.
