二、阅读理解
Lisa walked into the chorus room with a smile on her face. The class was auditioning (试演) for parts in the holiday musical. Lisa loved to sing and this was her chance to get one of the lead roles.
Mr. Beckman passed out lyrics for the auditions. Lisa could hardly wait to sing quietly to
herself. Mr. Beckman tapped his baton on the music stand at the front of the room. “I know you’re all excited to audition, but before we do I have an announcement. This year will witness a very
special performance by a select number of students,” Mr. Beckman said. Lisa squeezed the sheet music in her hands. Maybe it was a chance to be featured as one of the best singers.
“These individuals will be dressed in distinctive costumes and will set the stage for the rest
of the show,” Mr. Beckman continued. “Brandon, Adriana, Tina, and Lisa, would you come up front please?” “Yes!” Lisa yelled, rushing to the front ofthe room.
Mr. Beckman removed a costume from the supply closet, “You four will be our wooden soldiers!” Lisa stared at the strange clothes. “No one is going to recognize us wearing those!” “Don’t worry, Lisa. Your names will be listed in the program under Wooden Soldiers.” Mr.
Beckman said.
“But even my own parents won’t be able to tell which soldier is me!” “This is a very special honor,” Mr. Beckman said, “Lisa, I selected the top students in the class to open the show for us.
You’ll need to learn a special march and dance, but ifyou don’t want to be a soldier, I can assign the part to someone else.” Lisa saw a few of her classmates’ eyes widen at the thought of taking her place. Maybe being a soldier was a good thing since Mr. Beckman had chosen her, and she

He says what changed his perception of beauty was a chance encounter with an albino (患白化病的) girl. “I was just tired of people telling me who was beautiful. Every season that face
would change but I was always told who was beautiful. As an artist, I don’t see beauty just on
covers of magazines. I see it everywhere. So that was my original intention—that opened my eyes a little wider and wider.”
Guidotti has created Positive Exposure, a not-for-profit organization that uses photography and video to transform public perceptions and promote a world where differences are celebrated. Guidotti and Positive Exposure are featured in a new documentary called “On Beauty”.
One of the women featured in the film is Jayne Waithera. “I never thought I was beautiful because nobody said that to me, but meeting him was my profound moment. I remember that
particular day he took my picture and I felt so good like l felt there’s somebody who, like, really loves me and sees me for who I am and who sees me more than my condition.”
Guidotti is traveling from city to city to promote “On Beauty”. He says his tour is not about money; it’s about the message. “As I travel from community to community, I’m taking
photographs band I’m empowering individuals with a positive sense of who they are. They’re
seeing beauty in their reflection but I’m also empowering their families and they in turn are
empowering their communities as well. All is based on the philosophy of change—how you see, how you change.”

Today, roller skating is easy and fun. But a long time ago, it wasn’t easy at all. Before 1750, the idea of skating didn’t exist. That changed because of a man named Joseph Merlin. Merlin’s work was making musical instruments. In his spare time he liked to play the violin. Joseph Merlin was a man of ideas and dreams. People called him a dreamer.
One day Merlin received an invitation to attend a fancy dress ball. He was very pleased and a little excited. As the day of the party came near, Merlin began to think how to make a grand
entrance at the party. He had an idea. He thought he would get a lot of attention if he could skate into the room.
Merlin tried different ways to make himself roll. Finally, he decided to put two wheels under each shoe. These were the first roller skates. Merlin was very proud of his invention and dreamed of arriving at the party on wheels while playing the violin.
On the night of the party Merlin rolled into the room playing his violin. Everyone was
greatly surprised to see him. There was just one problem. Merlin had no way to stop his roller
skates. He rolled on and on. Suddenly, he ran into a huge mirror that was hanging on the wall.
Down fell the mirror, breaking to pieces. Nobody forgot Merlin’s grand entrance for a long time!

A vertical smart farm was established in a Seoul subway station. Opened on September 23, it's Korean's first urban, underground smart farm.
Sterilized(无菌的) outerwear is put on before entering the vertical farm. Vegetables are being cultivated(培育) under LED lighting, in trays of hydroponic(溶液栽培) that take the place of soil, “We are not pulling in dirty air from outside or from the subway. Thanks to this sealed
sterile environment, the vertical farm has no need for pesticides( 杀虫剂 ) . Moreover, the vegetables grown possess slightly higher amounts of vitamins and minerals than regular
vegetables, "said Kim Sung-un, a senior manager at a commercial smart farm company.
Still, Kim admits that smart farms are not suited to every kind of vegetable. “We can
produce potatoes or tomatoes, but they are not cost effective,” Kim said. However, they are
appropriate for lettuce-widely used in Korean cuisine as wraps for barbecued meat and fish-and
herbs-widely used in Korean cuisine and medicine. Unlike traditional farming work, with its
requirement for hard work and heavy machinery, smart farming labor is light. With all processes, —except for seeding and harvesting—fully automated or using robots, the main job is
monitoring(监控), and disabled people were hired for the job. “The good thing about smart
farming is that we can include those who are socially excluded,” Kim said. “And these systems are something woman can work on, there is no hard labor.” The farms are also applicable in
environments where traditional farming is not feasible---such as deserts and arctic climate zones.

If you listen to some self-improvement lectures about success, you’ll hear a familiar saying: Hustle (拼命干) harder. It sounds like success is just a matter of willpower and that the life of
your dreams is within reach. 15 They are following this mindset, spending every waking hour working toward ambitious goals, only to find themselves worn out and unfulfilled.
Hustle culture promises success, but it often leads to burnout and disappointment. 16 They come from something deeper and more sustainable: persistence (坚持).
17 But what the experts won’t tell you is that most of those goals require a mix of timing, luck, and sometimes even genetics. No matter how hard you hustle, success isn’t always
within your control. Persistence culture, on the other hand, takes a different approach. Instead of focusing on massive, high-risk goals, it emphasizes consistent effort over time, it encourages
growth, learning, and steady improvement — factors that are within your control.
Hustle culture focuses on goals, ignoring the process. It tells you to chase success at all costs, even if that means doing things you hate along the way. 18 You enjoy the
connection with your audience, but if you follow hustle culture, your focus shifts to profit, audience growth, and social media engagement. To “succeed”, you have to learn marketing strategies that you don’t actually enjoy.
Persistence culture, in contrast, prioritizes the process itself. It asks: Do you enjoy what
you’re doing? When you love the process, you don’t need external approval to keep going.
19 Instead of measuring success by external factors, it asks: How can I improve? Maybe your podcast isn’t getting millions of downloads, but are you becoming a better interviewer? Are you developing new skills? These are the measures that matter because they’re within your
control.
A .Hustle culture praises big goals.
B .Hustle culture ignores the value of goals.
C .For example, you love podcasting (制作播客).
D .This is where many young people go wrong.
E .Success becomes a byproduct of consistency and passion.
F .They fail to realize that rest is just as important as hard work.
G .The truth is that success and fulfillment don’t come from constant struggle.

When I entered high school, our teacher told us that we were supposed to do some
volunteer work to enrich our high school life and prepare ourselves for university. Upon hearing this, I got excited and decided that I would take part in this valuable activity. I applied to be a
volunteer at Yeda Hospital, one of the biggest and busiest hospitals in our city. Fortunately, I was accepted! Joy flooded over me.
I woke up early in the morning and couldn’t wait to head for the hospital, hoping to serve people in need with a big smile. At around 7:30 a.m., all the volunteers gathered as planned. I was overwhelmed with excitement as I entered the hospital. We were warmly greeted by the hospital staff. Then volunteers were arranged different tasks—cleaning rooms, guiding patients to their
destinations, helping old people fill in forms and so on. Because I was good at operating
computers, I was sent to be in charge of the self-service payment machines, which are designed for people to buy medicine and instantly pay their hospital bills.
Volunteering from 7:30 a.m. until 8:30 a.m. in the hospital made me very happy. Everyone I offered help to thanked me over and over again. However, most of the people in the hospital had
worried faces, and I seldom spotted a smile. It was a little disappointing, but I tried to understand. They might have been tired out taking care of patients. I continued to concentrate on my assigned task, helping plenty of people—especially the older ones who couldn’t use advanced technology. As time went by, I felt tired and bored.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为 150 左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

44 .One possible version:
Suddenly, I noticed a foreigner standing beside the machine with a confused look. I
approached him with a smile, asking if he needed any assistance. He looked relieved and
explained that he was trying to pay for his wife’s medication but couldn’t understand the
instructions on the screen. I guided him through each step, translating the Chinese prompts into
English and ensuring he understood how to complete the transaction. His gratitude was evident as he thanked me profusely, and for the first time that day, I saw a genuine smile on someone’s face in the hospital.
That moment really touched my heart. It made me realize that even small acts of kindness
can make a significant difference in someone’s day. As the day progressed, I continued to assist
more people, each interaction adding a bit more warmth to the otherwise clinical environment. By the end of my shift, I felt a profound sense of satisfaction. Volunteering at Yeda Hospital not only enriched my high school life but also taught me valuable lessons about compassion and the impact of simple gestures. I knew that these experiences would stay with me as I prepared for university
and beyond, shaping me into a more understanding and caring individual.
