Possible Version 1
Dear Chris,
Glad to hear you’re participating in the World Earth Day poster contest! Between the two
versions, I highly recommend the first one, “There is no Planet B.”
I prefer this design for two main reasons. Visually, the poster features a crying and sweating
Earth, with factory chimneys emitting toxic smoke on its top. It vividly highlights the severe
environmental crises we are facing, such as global warming and air pollution. More importantly,
the slogan itself is brilliant. By cleverly playing on the phrase “Plan B”, it sends a powerful
warning to the public: our planet is irreplaceable, and we have no backup home to escape to.
Therefore, we must stop the destruction before it’s too late.
I believe this thought-provoking poster will surely leave a lasting impression on the judges.
Best of luck!
Yours,
Li Hua

Possible Version 2
Dear Chris,
Glad to hear you’re participating in the World Earth Day poster contest! Both versions are
fantastic, but I favor the second one, “OUR ACTIONS, OUR FUTURE.”
What makes this poster stand out is the perfect combination of its image and slogan. In
terms of the image, it presents a hopeful scene where a pair of hands gently holds the Earth. On
top of the globe, leafy trees and a bright sun vividly symbolize a green, sustainable future.
Moreover, the slogan perfectly matches the drawing. Written entirely in bold capitals, the words
create a strong impact, conveying a highly positive message that the destiny of our planet
literally lies in our own hands.
I’m sure this inspiring design will shine in the contest and motivate more people to take
concrete eco-friendly actions. Good luck!
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节(满分25分)
Possible Version
Inspired, Nate suggested they visit his Grandpa’s farm. Briana’s eyes lit up, and the two set
off right away. When they arrived, Briana gasped, “This is amazing!” Her wonder was infectious
– Nate looked around, feeling as if he were seeing the farm for the first time. Golden wheat
fields swayed in the breeze like a rolling ocean, fluffy sheep grazing peacefully in the sunlight.
He stood there, completely captivated. Then, Briana gently nudged him. “You should draw this,
Nate. It’s a perfect scene.” That was it. Nate pulled out his sketchpad immediately, his pencil
dancing across the paper. As his painting took shape, he wondered why he had never thought to
draw the farm before. Once he looked closely, it really was a fascinating place. By sunset, his
sketchpad was filled with lively drawings.
On the day of the award ceremony, the library was crowded. Local residents gathered
around, buzzing with anticipation. Nate stood nervously among them, his heart pounding. Ms.
Kim stepped onto the stage. “Every drawing captures the unique beauty of our town,” she said
warmly, “but one work truly stood out.” She paused, and then announced Nate’s name. He
walked up in disbelief, hands trembling as he accepted the award. The audience applauded
loudly, and Briana waved at him from the crowd, beaming with pride. Nate stepped back,
looking at his winning piece on the wall – a vivid scene of Grandpa’s farm bathed in golden
sunlight. A warm smile spread across his face – beauty had always been there, and sometimes all
it took was a pair of fresh eyes to see it.

Text 1
M: Why did you set the alarm so early
W: Dear, you said you have a meeting to attend at 9:00. Hurry up. Now you only get half an
hour before it starts.
M: Oh, I forgot that. I’m so dead.
Text 2
M: It’s so nice today. It’s a good time to go out and get relaxed.
W: Yes, I will go to the amusement park. What about you
M: My wife wants to go to the beach, but I have to go to the company to write a report.
Text 3
M: You arrived at school early today! Did your dad bring you by car
W: No. And I didn’t take a bus, either. Everything on the underground went smoothly! I was
lucky.
Text 4
W: It’s so annoying. I keep losing my files. Do you know what the problem is
M: Let me have a look. There’s a lot of stuff here. Why don’t you save the files onto a memory
stick
W: That’s a good idea.
Text 5
W: Why did Tom quit the job
M: He said his present job had no future.
W: If he does not change his attitude towards his work, I don’t think a new job can make any
difference.
Text 6
M: Mary, where is your mother
W: She is preparing breakfast in the kitchen. What are our plans for today
M: How about going on a boat tour I think your mother will also like this idea.
W: Yes! I don’t mind that the weather is a bit cloudy.
M: Uncle Pablo works in a tour company and he’s telling tourists about the history of the town
when they’re on the boat today!
W: I’d love to listen to him!
M: Me, too. I’ll book our tickets online.
Text 7
W: Tom, I’ve got a computer game called Green Space.
M: Where did you find out about it
W: I borrowed a magazine from a friend and there was an ad for it. I asked my mum and she
bought it for me from their website.
M: I really like that game. Who are you going to play it with
W: Well, my brother’s too busy, and my cousin Amy only likes board games. Only my granddad

has lots of time, so I want to play with him.
M: Which part do you like best
W: Crossing the river is really good, but what I enjoy most is finding something to eat. The part
about building a house is my least favourite.
Text 8
W: Hi, Bill. When did you get back
M: About an hour ago. What’s new Did anyone call
W: Yeah, someone called Dave made a phone call this afternoon. He’s at the Holiday Inn Hotel.
You can get in touch with him there.
M: Oh, that’s my old friend from college, Dave Johnson. I knew he was coming to town. I didn’t
expect him today, though.
W: Should we ask him to our party tonight
M: I’d like to. But we’ve already invited twenty people and the apartment is pretty small.
W: Don’t worry. We can always make room for one more. The more, the happier, you know.
M: That’s true. And the other guests will like Dave. He’s very friendly, and he always has funny
stories and jokes to tell.
W: Be sure to tell him not to dress up. It’s not formal, you know.
M: Okay. I’ll go to pick Dave up. He doesn’t know this town well. He might lose his way
coming alone.
W: Okay.
Text 9
W: Professor Smith.
M: Hi, Justine. How are you You don’t look very happy.
W: I’m OK, but I’m doing badly in your class. I wonder how to do better.
M: I think coming prepared to class may do something to improve your grades.
W: How can I prepare for class
M: Have you checked out my web page All my lecture notes are on my web page. You can read
them first.
W: Really Wow. That would be very helpful.
M: Another good idea is to read the book before class.
W: I usually don’t do that. I thought hearing the lecture first would be better than reading first.
M: Reading first is actually better. You should also write down ideas or notes while you’re
reading. That way you can come to class with some questions.
W: Yeah. Thank you very much, Professor Smith. I feel much better now.
Text 10
W: Good morning, everyone. Today we need to choose a new director for the marketing
department. There are two candidates for this position: Amy Coleman, and Sam Stewart. First,
let’s explore Amy’s qualifications for this position. On the positive side, she has excellent
communication skills and is experienced in running a marketing team. Additionally, she is really
popular among the other employees. On the other side, Amy is not receptive to new information

or viewpoints and she’s not creative enough. Now, let’s turn to Sam. In the first place, Sam
doesn’t have much experience or good communication abilities, compared to Amy. But he seems
to have much potential despite his lack of experience. He is very creative and I can see that
while working with him in the same team. He even attends a class on Sunday these days to learn
some marketing skills. I know it’s hard to find the ideal person to handle this job on a short
meeting. We’ll meet here again on next Friday at 9:00. We must have a clear decision before
Sunday.
