Step 2 Reading 1. Have students read an article about a volunteer programme and complete a table. Have students read the article again and answer the following questions: What did Yang Yu volunteer to do How did he feel about his volunteer work What does he think of the programme Have students think further about what makes college students want to volunteer for the “Go West” Programme. Step 3 Listening and reading Have students go through the five questions on P87 before listening. Have students listen and choose the correct answers for Part B1. Have students predict possible answers for Part B2. Have students listen and complete Simon’s notes. Have students go through Simon’s notes and think further about what the students’ life is like and what Judy can bring to the students. Step 4 Writing Have students complete Simon’s article with the information in Parts B1 and B2. Have students analyze the structure of Simon’s article.
