The third month of the school year has now arrived. Have you noticed how, when we talk about numbers, we naturally think of the number three
In some ways, “three” is a number that has magical powers. You can find that this number is all around us. Everything has a beginning, a middle and an end. We eat three meals a day. Traffic lights all over the world use three colors: red, yellow and green. And there is the rule of three. It is an old writing technique. According to this rule, things can always become more satisfying to readers if they come in threes. Have you ever noticed how powerful brands (品牌) use the rule of three to improve their marketing “Just do it.”“ I’m loving it.”“ Coke is it.” All of these famous slogans (标语) are three words long.
But what is it about the number three that makes it so magical Well, we know that the human brain is very complex (复杂的). However, it enjoys thinking in patterns (模式). It is always trying to find patterns in seemingly unconnected information. What’s more, if there are no patterns, our brains will create them. And three is the smallest number needed to form a pattern. As the old saying goes, “Once is luck, twice is coincidence (巧合) and three times is a pattern.” Moreover, our brains can remember only a little information at any given moment. An audience (观众) will usually only remember three things from a speech. Do you want your audience to remember your speech in their minds deeply Present it to them in groups of three.
If we properly use the rule of three in our daily lives, we can make many things easier. For example, many people like to add lots of tasks to their to-do lists. However, experts (专家) suggest they should limit themselves to just three tasks. These top three tasks should be hard enough to be challenging while still being achievable. And the next time you are making New Year’s tasks, consider listing only three things to work on. The longer your list is, ________.
6.The underlined word “technique” in paragraph 2 is closest in meaning to “________”.

A. three is a lucky number in many cultures
B. people probably trust shorter slogans more
C. patterns can only form when three items are used
D. three-word slogans are easier for people to remember
9.What advice is given in the article on making to-do lists
A. Care about tasks that are hard to reach.
B. Choose tasks that are easy to complete.
C. List as many tasks as possible to stay organized.
D. Limit the list to three difficult but achievable tasks.
10.Which of the following best fits the blank __________ in the last paragraph
A. the happier you will feel
B. the less possible it is to achieve it
C. the faster you will improve
D. the better you can manage your time

Too much CO2 (二氧化碳) in the air can make the earth warmer. The deep sea helps by keeping some carbon (碳) away from the air for a long time.
In the cold sea near Antarctica, many small sea plants live near the top of the water. They need sunlight to make food. When they make food, they take in CO2 and give out O2 (氧气). These plants use CO2 to make food, so carbon from CO2 stays in them. Very small sea animals called zooplankton (浮游动物) eat these plants. When zooplankton eat them, the carbon goes into their bodies.
In winter, quite a lot of zooplankton swim from the top of the water down into the deep sea. The deep sea is cold and dark, and the water moves slowly. When zooplankton are deep in the water, some CO2 comes out of their bodies. Some carbon also leaves their bodies and stays in the deep sea. It does not go back into the air quickly. This is like a natural machine under the water. It moves carbon from the top to the deep water area. In this way, zooplankton help the earth get warm more slowly.
Zooplankton are also part of the ocean food chain A food chain shows “who eats who”. For example, small fish eat zooplankton. Bigger sea animals, such as penguins and whales, eat the small fish. If zooplankton are in danger, many sea animals may have less food.
Today, warmer sea water, too much fishing, bottles and other waste in the sea may hurt their home. We should keep the sea clean and safe. To save the sea is to save our earth.

Once upon a time, there was a musician named Yu Boya. He was good at playing the guqin. However, he always felt that he didn’t have the highest level (水平), so he decided to take a boat trip to Penglai Island in the East China Sea. There, Yu Boya saw the waves (波浪) hitting the rocks, and the seabirds flying up and down and singing happily and loudly. At that moment, a creative idea went into his mind. He used his guqin to bring the beauty of nature and the touching sounds of the music together. Unluckily, no one could understand and enjoy what the music was about. He felt very lonely with a great pity.
One day, Yu Boya saw an old woodcutter listening to his music carefully on the seaside and then asked him to get in his boat. He played the music about the high mountain. The woodcutter described a picture of Mountain Tai in his mind. When Yu Boya played another piece of music to show the waves, the woodcutter seemed to watch a wild sea. Yu Boya shouted excitedly, “My dear friend, Zhong Ziqi, you are the confidant that understands me and my music!” A few years later, Zhong Ziqi passed away. Yu Boya cut off all the strings (琴弦) and stopped playing the guqin after he heard the news.

It means he preferred (宁可) to live alone if he couldn’t find any confidant. Being a confidant has nothing to do with age, distance as well as wealth (财富). Everyone has “down days” in life. On these days, people may feel low and unwilling to do anything. For teenagers, bad weather, failed exams, broken friendships or pressure from schoolwork can easily bring up such negative feelings. Usually, these bad feelings do not last long. Most teens can cheer themselves up by talking with friends, taking part in outdoor activities or focusing on new school tasks. Slowly, they will forget their troubles and return to their normal life. However, if a teenager keeps feeling sad, lonely and hopeless for more than two weeks, this is not a simple bad mood. It is a dangerous sign that needs careful attention from both parents and teachers.
Growing up is a process of seeking independence. As teens grow older, they start to challenge rules and fight for more freedom. They complain about parents’ strict requirements and hope to make their own decisions in life. This is a natural and necessary step of growth, which shows that teenagers are developing self-awareness and want to be treated as adults. Many teenagers refuse their parents’ control openly, yet they still rely on their parents in many ways. This strange mix of independence desire and real dependence often causes parent-child disagreements and inner confusion for teens.
In fact, teenage education is never a simple choice between strict rules and total freedom. The best family education lies in keeping a healthy balance between the two. Parents need to set clear and proper rules to guide their children’s behavior, helping them form good habits and sense of responsibility. At the same time, parents should be flexible and understanding. They must respect teens’ growing need for independence and personal space. It is common for teens to feel upset and angry when they have to ask for parents’ agreement to visit friends or join after-school activities, even though they wish to be fully independent. Parents should see such moods as normal growth pains instead of rude resistance.
The US Department of Education has offered useful advice on teenage family education. It points out that parents should respect and support their children’s personal choices as long as these choices will not cause long-term harm to their study, health and future. Many daily choices of teenagers are totally harmless. The music they listen to, the clothes they wear and their personal hobbies may not fit parents’ taste, but these small choices will not affect their school performance or physical and mental health. In such situations, too much prevention will only make teens feel stressed and distance themselves from their parents.
Still, freedom never means doing whatever one wants. When teenagers’ choices turn into risky or harmful behaviors, strict rules and proper punishment become necessary. For example, behaviors like drinking and driving, skipping school on purpose, staying out late or making friends with bad people will bring serious results. In such cases, parents must stop their children firmly and give clear punishment. This helps teens learn a basic life lesson: more freedom comes with more responsibilities, and wrong choices will lead to unavoidable bad results. This kind of boundary awareness plays a key role in teenagers’ long-term healthy development.

1.
第二段明确指出:“In the cold sea near Antarctica, many small sea plants live near the top of the water. They need sunlight to make food.”,说明小型海洋植物生活在海面附近是因为它们需要阳光来制造食物。
2. 根据第二段:“When they make food, they take in CO2 and give out O2 (氧气). These plants use CO2 to make food, so carbon from CO2 stays in them.”
3. 第三段中提到:“When zooplankton are deep in the water...It does not go back into the air quickly. This is like a natural machine under the water.”。“This”指代的是前一句描述的过程,即碳从表层水域移动到深水区的过程:碳随浮游动物从海洋表层转移到深海并留存下来,后一句也补充说明该过程将碳从表层转移到深水区,只有选项D符合“This”指代内容。
4. 根据第四段:“small fish eat zooplankton. Bigger sea animals, such as penguins and whales, eat the small fish.”,文中给出的食物链顺序为:小型海洋植物→浮游动物→小鱼→企鹅/鲸鱼,对应选项A的图示顺序,其余选项顺序均不符合原文描述。
5. 第四段指出:“If zooplankton are in danger, many sea animals may have less food.”,且最后一段提到warmer sea water等威胁。
31~35.【答案】C、D、A、B、B
