1. be likely to do sth 可能(发生某种情况)

1) possible, probable 与 likely 三者都表“可能”,但引导不同的句式。

2) possible 常用于固定结构中,如:
as … as possible, if possible
probable 则表示可能性很大,译为“很有可能地”
likely也表示可能性很大,但比probable弱;
当指某人或某事充当主语, 其后用to do时,只能用likely
2. take action to do sth. 采取措施做某事
(1) 警方不得不采取果断措施来对付罢工。
The police had to take firm action to deal with the strike.
