The concert started in the evening while the sun was going down. Although there were no seats and the audience had to stand all the time, they were all very excited. Before she started to play, Twain said to the large crowd: “Are you ready, Chicago?!”The performance The first song in the concert was one of Shania Twain’s big hit songs, Man, I Feel Like a Woman. The performance was excellent and really exciting. Twain proved that she is a true performer. Her singing, as well as the brilliant music of good rhythm, was full of strong feelings. Although the music was a little too loud, the audience could still hear the songs clearly. The lighting and special effects on the stage were also extraordinary.The audience reaction From the start, the fans were cheering and waving their arms as Twain appeared on the stage and they didn’t stop until the very end. The audience loved all the songs, and most of them could sing along to the songs. Every one agreed that they were greatly impressed by Twain’s brilliant music and singing.The end of the concert All the audience left the concert hall feeling excited. A small crowd of fans was waiting to get Twain’s signature after the concert had come to an end. Teaching procedure:
Step 1: Students’ presentation (5 mins.)
Step 2: Before you start (5 mins.)
Rewrite the sentences on Page 30, using “although”. Make it clear that “although” introduces a concession clause which is about the negative aspect, while the main clause, as well as the main idea of the sentences emphasizes the positive aspect.
Step 3: Watch the video of Shania Twain’s live concert (5 mins)
1.Introduce the background knowledge about Shania Twain on Page 67 in Language Power.
2. Play the video of Shania Twain’s live concert in Chicago in 2003.
Step 4: The first stage of writing: collect the information (3 mins.)
1. Basic information: What’s the type of the music? Rock “n” roll. Who was the singer? Shania Twain. Where was the live concert held? In Chicago, America. The time: on June 18, 2003
2. Use adjectives to describe the detail of the concert.
Step 5: The second stage: use the information to write paragraphs (20 mins.)
1. Present the content of the four paragraphs of the review: (1) the start of the concert (basic information of the concert, weather…); (2) the performance (performance, music, songs, sound quality, lighting, special effects…); (3) the audience reaction; (4) the end of the concert (people’s feelings, reviewer’s opinion…)
2. Group work: write the paragraphs. Ask the students to work in groups of four to write a concert review of Shania Twain’s live concert. Each member of the group writes only one part of the review. Use the information on Page 30 and the writing help 2 on Page 90, as well as the text in Lesson 1, to help with the writing.
3. Present student writings. Let several students to read their parts, and then for each part, give a sample written by the teacher.
Step 6: The third and the last stage (7 mins.)
1. Explain the third stage: write the review, put all the paragraphs together to form an entire composition, using some linking words.
2. The last stage: check the writing. Did you use a paragraph plan? Are paragraphs clearly marked? Does each paragraph have a clear topic? Are there any grammatical mistakes?
3. Let students finish Stage 3 and Stage 4 in groups.
4. Ask one group to read their concert review to the whole class.
Homework:
Continue to finish the concert review in groups, hand in their writings the next day.

开头用在句子讲解的时间稍长,应适当缩短,以保证后面的写作过程有充足的时间;在观看视频之前应布置相应的任务,让学生带着任务去看,做到有的放矢;写作之前可以先让学生进行讨论;写作过程中应加强师生互动,给予学生更多的指导;讲评学生习作时还应更加突出学生习作中的亮点,最好能用投影仪投影出来;在教师给出的参考作文中也可以勾画出精彩的句子。
