They drink up huge amounts of fuel and throw out huge amounts of pollutants. Traffic accidents kill thousands and thousands of people each year and cripple more. Jams waste our precious time. Therefore I am against developing private cars.

what I saw at the gate of Dong Hua Market.
At the rush hour there are a lot of cars
and trucks at the crossing of Dong Hua
Market and the main road. However, nobody
controls the traffic, so traffic jam often
happens. I suggest that the government
should build a crossover to reduce the
traffic accidents. I hope the government
pays great attention to the safety of the
public.

5 minutes onlyReadingTip: Try to find out the topic sentences. Traffic problems are easy to be reminded when talking about private cars. As the economy develops so fast, the quality of life has been greatly improved. More and more people, especially white-collars, can afford private cars and also have the desire to have a car of their own. So the amount of private cars increases in a great increasing rate.
Nowadays, in big cities, such as Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen, there may be traffic jam at anywhere and anytime, especially in the center of the city. On some roads, the average speed a car can reach is no more than walking speed. Of course, the cars that are jammed are not only private cars, but also public buses. So both the private car owners and the bus passengers complain about the traffic condition wasting their time. The private car owners argue that the highway should be broadened and a lot more crossroads should be built, which also benefit the bus passengers; a higher voice, however, coming from the bus passengers, suggests that the private cars should be banned at the city center, which upsets the private car owners. Both of the two solutions can solve the traffic problem to some extend, but the former is limited by the finance of the government, while the latter is held up by the car industry and the people already have private cars. The passage points out that traffic problems are always related to the increasing private cars. Two solutions have been put forward to solve them, but there are a lot of difficulties.
