Teaching Methods:

Teaching Objectives:
1. To know the new words and expressions in this lesson, like prefer, lyrics, gentle, sing along with, dance to.
2. To learn to use attributive clause with “that”.
3. To train the students to talk about different kinds of music and their own preferences by using the key sentence “I like/prefer music that…”.
4. To enable students to enjoy kinds of music.
Teaching difficult points:
1. Attributive clause with “that”.
2. Target language: I like music that I can sing along with; I love music that I can dance to; I prefer music that has great lyrics. etc.
Teaching Procedures:
Step 1. Revision .
1. Show some groups of pictures to review the attributive clauses with “that” and “who”. Set off a chain drill.
2. Play a guessing game. Ask students to write 2 clues for a thing and a person by using attributive clause with “that” and “who”. Then have them say the clues for the class. Let the students guess the things and the people.
Step 2. Warming-up and Lead-in.
1. Play a short piece of music for the students to listen. Ask students “Would you like to dance with the music ” Invite 2 girls to lead the dance in front of the class. The whole class dance together.
2. Ask a student “What do you think of this piece of music”, “Why do you like it ” When the student answers “I like it because I can dance to it”, then introduce the new lesson “Unit 6 I like music that I can dance to”.
Step 3. Revision.
Ask some students to answer “What music do you like” in a simple way, like “beautiful music”, “light music” etc. Then review some other kinds of music they know like “pop music”, “classical music” etc.
Step 4. Presentation.
Play different kinds of music for the students, only a short piece of each one. Give students some examples to talk about the music by using attributive clause with “that”. Provide some sentences describing music such as the following: I like music that’s quiet and gentle. I love music that I can sing along with. I prefer music that has great lyrics. etc.
Step 5. Performing and oral practice.
Give the students a chance to show themselves by having a talent show. Let them express preferences about music by making sentences with attributive clause before or after the show.
Step 6. Listening and checking(1b: P44).
Ask the students to listen to the conversation between Tony and Betty. Tell them to tick the right statements to find what kinds of music Tony and Betty like while they’re listening. Check the answers.
Step 7. Oral practice.
Get the students to work in pairs to talk about the music they like. 3 minutes later, pick up 3 pairs to show their performance for the class. Have some fun.
Step 8. Summary.
Say, In this lesson, first we’ve learned three new key words: prefer, lyrics and gentle. Then we’ve learned how to express preferences by talking about different kinds of music, using attributive clause with “that”.
Step 9. Homework
Ask the students to write six sentences with “I like music that…, I love music that…, I prefer music that…, I don’t like music that …, I hate music that…, I can’t stand music that…”.
