Step 1. Lead-in
1. Watch the movie of Beijing applying for 2008 Olympic Games. Ask students how many sports there are in the movie and what they are.
(running, swimming, gymnastics, hurdle race, boating, bicycle racing, roller-skating, judo, kickboxing, badminton, kicking shuttlecock, martial arts)
2. Encourage students to list more sports.
Step 2. Vocabulary Focus
Introduce more words about sports to students according to different categories.
Track and Field: running (100-meter race, 200-meter race…), hurdle race, race walking, relay race, high jump, long jump, shot, discus, javelin,…
Ball Games: soccer, football, volleyball, basketball, tennis, table-tennis, hockey, ice hockey, badminton, baseball, softball, squash, golf, bowling, snooker,…
Gymnastics: Men---rings, double bars, high bar, jumping over, side horse, floor exercises; Women---high-and-low bars, beam, jumping over, floor exercises,…
Water Sports: swimming, water ballet, diving, sailing, surfing,…
Other indoor and outdoor sports:
sumo, boxing, karate, fencing, aerobics, weightlifting; shooting, skating, yoga; car racing, archery, skiing, push-and-pull, bungee jumping, triathlon,…
Step 3. Practice

Invite 3 pairs to perform the guessing activities to review the words about sports again.
