一、题材多种多样。大约100个单词的短文分为 10行，内容一般为日常生活和学校生活。
二、体裁多为记叙文、说明文、应用文。应用文中以书信形式为主。
三、一般只有一行没有错。也就是说，考生在解题过程中，只打一个“√”。
四、近几年的试题布局结构一般是“10=6+3+1”，即10行中错词占6行，多词和缺词占3行，无错行占一行。在多词、缺词的3行中，有时多词占2行，有时占1行。

从表１看，只有1行是正确的，其余9行中，要么错词，要么多词或缺词。而错误类型中错词最多，占改错题的60%。这就提示我们：首先要问的就是句中“谓语动词是否用错词”，然后再考虑有无多词，缺词。对名词 ，非谓语动词，介词以及代词，形容词（副词），连词，冠词的错误也应如此来考虑问题。
动词常见错误1) 一般过去时与一般 现在时错用。
2) 第三人称单数形式错用。
3) And 前后动词时态不一致。
4) 主谓不一致。
5) 缺少谓语动词（尤其缺be动词）。
