These wires are called sensors. She places one sensor in his mouth and one on his chest. She puts another one around his wrist and one on his forehead. Then she plugs the sensors into a wall outlet. She says the code “TCP”. This means “telephone call placed.” A little light flashes on the wall. The Greens’ wireless telephone is ready for a call.
Mrs Green says “6666”, the doctor’s telephone number. From a speaker on the wall comes the doctor’s voice: “Good morning.”
“Good morning, Dr Scott,” answers Mrs Green. “Charlie is not feeling too well this morning. I’ve put the sensors on him. I wonder if you can examine him now.”
“Sure,” the doctor’s voice says. “Well, he doesn’t have a fever. And his pulse is fine. Now, breathe deeply, Charlie. ”
Charlie does so .

The U.S. Department of Labor statistics (统计) show that there is an oversupply of college-trained workers and that this oversupply is increasing. Already there have been more than enough teachers, engineers, physicists, aerospace experts, and other specialists. Yet colleges and graduate schools continue every year to turn out highly trained people to compete for jobs that aren't there. The result is that graduates cannot enter the professions for which they were trained and must take temporary(暂时的) jobs which do not require a college degree.
On the other hand, there is a great need for skilled workers of all sorts: carpenters, electricians, mechanics, plumbers, TV repairmen.
These people have more work than they can deal with, and their annual incomes are often higher than those of college graduates. The old gap that white-collar(白领) workers make a better living than blue-collar workers no longer holds true. The law of supply and demand now favors the skilled workmen.
The reason for this situation is the traditional myth(a false idea) that college degree is a passport to a prosperous future. A large part of American society matches success in life equally with a college degree. Parents begin indoctrinating (灌输) their children with this myth before they are out of grade school. High school teachers play their part by acting as if high school education were a preparation for college rather than for life. Under this pressure the kids fall in line. Whether they want to go to college or not doesn't matter. Everybody should go to college, so of course they must go. And every year college enrollments (入学) go up and up, and more and more graduates are overeducated for the kinds of jobs available to them.
One result of this emphasis on a college education is that many people go to college who do not belong there. Of the sixty percent of high school graduates who enter college, half of them do not graduate with their class. Many of them drop out within the first year. Some struggle on for two or three years and then give up.
64. It’s implied but not stated in the passage that__________ .
A. many other countries are facing the same problem
B. white-collar workers in the US used to make more money than blue-collar workers
C. fewer students will prefer to go to college in the future
D. the law of supply and demand has a strong effect on American higher education
65. Which of the following is NOT a reason why college enrollments go up every year?
A. Many people believe that the only way to success is a college education.
B. Many parents want their children to go to college.
C. High school teachers urge their students to go to college.
D. Every young man and woman wants to go to college.
66. By saying that “many people go to college who do not belong there,” the author means that__________.
A. many people who are not fit for college education go to college
B. many people who do not have enough money go to college
C. many people who go to college drop out within the first year
D. many people who go to college have their hopes destroyed
67. We can infer from the passage that the author believes that________ .
A. every young man and woman should go to college
B. college education is a bad thing
C. people with a college education should receive higher pay
D. fewer people should go to college while more should be trained for skilled jobs
D

Why do men die earlier than women? The latest research makes it known that the reason could be that men's hearts go into rapid decline(下降) when they reach middle age.
The largest study of the effects of ageing on the heart has found that women's longevity may be linked to the fact that their hearts do not lose their pumping power with age.
"We have found that the power of the male heart falls by 20-25 percent between 18 and 70 years of age," said the head of the study, David Goldspink of Liverpool John Moores University in the UK.
"Within the heart there are millions of cells that enable it to beat. Between the age of 20 and 70, one-third of those cells die and are not replaced in men," said Goldspink. "This is part of the ageing process. "What surprises scientists is that the female heart sees very little loss of these cells. A healthy 70-year-old woman's heart could perform almost as well as a 20-year-old one's.
"This gender(性别) difference might just explain why women live longer than men," said Goldspink.
They studied more than 250 healthy men and women between the ages of 18 and 80, focusing on healthy persons to remove the confusing influence of disease.
The team has yet to find why ageing takes a greater loss on the male heart, said Goldspink.
The good news is that men can improve the health of their heart with regular exercise. Goldspink stressed that women also need regular exercise to prevent their leg muscles becoming smaller and weaker as they age.
72. The underlined word "longevity" in the second paragraph probably refers to ______.
A. health B. long life C. ageing D. effect
73. The text mainly talks about ______.
A. men's heart cells B. women's ageing process

74. If you want to live longer, you should ______.
A. enable your heart to beat much faster
B. find out the reason for ageing
C. exercise regularly to keep your heart health
D. prevent your cells from being lost
75. We can know from the passage that ______.
A. the reason why ageing takes a greater loss on the male heart has been found out
B. scientists are on the way to finding out why the male heart loses more of the cells
C. the team has done something to prevent the male from suffering the greater loss
D. women over 70 could lose more heart cells than those at the age of 20

书面表达(满分25分)
Dear editor,
Our class has recently held a heated discussion about the“Super Girls”phenomenon which was hot new in 2005. The students show their different opinions about it.
62% of the students support it. They think that it provides a chance for those with talent for singing to show themselves. In this way, some new singers can be trained and so it can promote the development of music. And it can also improve their consciousness of competition. However, 38 percent of the students are against it. They believe that many students spend too much time and energy on the competition. Some students even long to become famous overnight and can’t concentrate themselves on studies. What’s worse, it can cause some students to worship their idols blindly.
In my opinion, we can have our preference, but we shouldn’t lose ourselves in the star-pursuing tide.
Yours,
Li Ping
