I am a good mother to three children. I have tried never to let my profession stand in the way of being a good parent.
I no longer consider myself the center of the universe. I show up. I listen. I try to laugh. I am a good friend to my husband. I have tried to make marriage vows mean what they say. I am a good friend to my friends. And they to me . Without them, there would be nothing to say to you today.
So here’s what I wanted to tell you today: Get a life. A real life , not a desire of the nest promotion, the bigger paycheck, the larger house.
Get a life in which you are not alone. Find people you love, and who love you. And remember that love is not leisure, it is work.. Pick up the phone. Send an email. Write a letter. And realize that life is the best thing and that you have no business taking it for granted.
It is so easy to waste our lives, our days, our hours and our minutes. It is so easy to exist instead of to live. I learned to live many years ago. Something really, really bad happened to me, something that changed my life in ways that, if I had my choice, it would never have been changed at all. And what I learned from it is what, today, seems to be the hardest lesson of all.
I learned to love the journey, not the destination, I learned to look at all the good in the world and try to give some of it back because I believed in it, completely and totally. And I tried to do that, in part, by telling others what I had learned.
By telling them this: Read in the backyard with the sun on your face. Learn to be happy, and think of life as a deadly illness, because if you do, you will live it with joy and passion (激动) as it ought to be lived.

We are all interested in equality , but while some people try to protect the school and examination system in the name of equality ,others, still in the name of equality, want only to destroy it.
Any society which is interested in equality of opportunity and standards of achievement must regularly test its pupils .The standards may be changed –no examination is perfect—but to have no tests or examinations would mean the end of equality and of standards. There are groups of people who oppose this view and who do not believe either in examinations or in any controls in schools or on teachers. This would mean that everything would depend on luck since every pupil would depend on the efficiency , the values and the purpose of each teacher.
Without examinations , employers will look for employees from the highly respected schools and from families known to them—a form of favourtism will replace equality. At the moment ,the bright child from an ill-respected school can show certificates to prove he or she is suitable for a job ,while the lack of certificate indicates the unsuitability of a dull child attending a well-respected school. This defence of excellence and opportunity would disappear if examinations were taken away , and the bright child from a poor family would be a prisoner of his or her school’s reputation ,unable to compete for employment with the child from the favoured school.
The opponents of the examination system suggest that examinations are an evil force because they show differences between pupils. According to these people , there must be no special ,different ,academic class .They have even suggested that there should be no form of difference in sport or any other area: all jobs or posts should be filled by unsystematic selection. The selection would be made by people who themselves are probably selected by some computer.
61.The word “favouritism” in paragraph 3 is used to describe the phenomenon that .
A.bright children also need certificates to get satisfying jobs
B.children from well-respected schools tend to have good jobs
C.poor children with certificates are favoured in job markets
D.children attending ordinary schools achieve great success
62.What would happen if examinations were taken away according to the author?
A.Schools for bright children would lose their reputation.
B.There would be more opportunities and excellence.
C.Children from poor families would be able to change their schools.
D.Children’s job opportunity would be affected by their school reputation.
63.The opponents of the examination system will agree that .
A.jobs should not be assigned by systematic selection
B.computers should be selected to take over many jobs
C.special classes are necessary to keep the school standards
D.schools with academic subjects should be done away with
64.The passage mainly focuses on .
A.schools and certificates B.examination and equality
C.opportunity and employment D.standards and reputation

I came to study in the United States a year ago. Yet I did not know the American society until I was injured in a car accident because after the accident I had to see a doctor and go to court.
After the accident, my roommate called a doctor for me. I was very grateful and determined to repay him one day. But the next day, he asked me to pay him $200 for what he had done. I was astonished. He had a good reason to charge me, he said. And if I wanted to collect money from the person who was responsible for my injury, I ‘d have to have a good lawyer. Now that he had helped me to find a good doctor, it was only fair that I should pay him.
But every time I went to see the doctor, I had to wait about 50 minutes. He would see two or three patients at the same time, and often stop treating one so as to see another. Yet he charged me $115 each time. The final examination report consisted of ten lines, and it cost me $215.
My lawyer was all with smiles the first time we met. But after that he avoided seeing me at all. He knew very well the other party was responsible for the accident, yet he hardly did anything. He simply waited to collect his money. He was so irresponsible that I decided to dismiss him. And he made me pay him$770.
Now I had to act as my own lawyer. Due to my inexperience, I told the insurance the date I was leaving America. Knowing that, they played for time, and I left without getting a cent.
My experiences taught me two things about America: firstly in a country like America money is everything. It is more important than friendship, honor or professional morality. Secondly, foreigners are still being unfairly treated. So when we talk about America, we should see both its good and bad sides.
65. The author’s roommate offered to help him because________.
A. he felt sorry for the author
B. he thought it was a chance to make some money
C. he knew the doctor was a very good one
D. he wanted the author to have a good lawyer
66. A good lawyer is essential for the author to __________.
A. get the responsible party to pay for his injury at last
B. be properly treated
C. talk with the person responsible for the accident
D. recover before he leaves America
67. What conclusion can you draw from this story?
A. Going to court is something very common in America.
B. One must be very careful while driving a car.
C. Money is more important than other things in the US.
D. There are more bad sides in America than good sides.
68. Both the doctor and the lawyer in this passage are very_________.
A. friendly B. professional C. greedy D. busy

Best director winner Ang Lee poses with his Oscar at the 78th annual Academy Awards in Hollywood, March 5, 2006. Lee won for his work in “Brokeback Mountain.”
Lee is the first Chinese to receive the honor, considered the highest in American cinema and the most influential worldwide.
“I’m deeply proud of him,” gushed Kale Wang, granddaughter of Wang Dulu, whose martial arts novel inspired Lee’s “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” in 2000.
Kate Wang, a public relations executive at the American Chamber of Commerce in Beijing, said that she considered Lee a family friend and that his win is one more evidence to his excellent talent at exploring the subtleties (微妙) of human feelings.
“Ang Lee’s movie is very touching. It’s simple but perfect,” commented Zhang Yuan, a Chinese film director of the “Sixth Generation”. “I sincerely congratulate him. He is the pride of all Chinese directors everywhere.”
Despite the Best Director nod, the film “Brokeback Mountain” lost to “Crash” in the Best Picture category. It was widely seen as an upset because “Brokeback” had been winning many awards, from the Golden Bear in Venice, to the Golden Globe and the Independent Spirit Awards, and was seen by most observers as a shoo-in(呼声) for the highest Oscar.

On July 16th 1995, a new bookstore opened in the American city of Seattle. No one steps inside to buy anything. Yet, the store, if you could call it that, had sales last year of 7000 million dollars. Ten years ago, few people bought things over the Internet. Few thought it was safe. Amazon.com changed many people's minds.
Ten years later, an estimated (估计) seven out of ten American adults have used a computer to buy something. Market researchers at ComScore Networks estimate online spending last year at 117,000 million dollars. That was for goods and travel services. The person who started Amazon, Jeff Bezos remains its leader. In the 1990s, he urged employees to help Amazon get big fast. Yet, Amazon invested in many similar businesses that failed. Amazon lost plenty of money. It did not make a profit until 2003. Its most recent profit and earnings report released last week was better than many market watchers had expected.
Today people can buy not just books and music but also many other products through Amazon. It competes with eBay, which celebrates its 10th birthday in September. eBay calls itself "the world's online marketplace". It does not sell anything. Instead, it provides a way for others to sell goods and services. People who want to buy something make competing offers through online auctions. eBay has grown to include several other businesses. These include Paypal, a company that processes online payments.
As online sellers grew, traditional stores saw the future. Today, stores from the smallest to the biggest sell on the Internet. These include the biggest of all, Wal-Mart.
72. What is the correct relationship between Amazon.com(A), eBay(B) and Paypal(P)?

A. B. C. D.
73. Amazon.com and eBay are different in that ________.
A. one sells something while the other doesn’t
B. one is making profits while the other isn’t
C. one was opened 10 years earlier than the other
D. one operates online but the other doesn’t
74. We can infer from the passage that________.
A. Amazon.com has been making profits for ten years
B. traditional bookstores are wondering at their futures
C. Wal-Mart is among the largest online stores
D. online shopping tends to be larger and easier
75. The passage is most likely to be _________.
A. an economics report B. an entertainment report
C. a political report D. a cultural report

Recently we’ve had a class meeting to discuss whether it is necessary for middle school students to carry mobile phones to school.
Some of the students think that it is more convenient for them to keep in touch with their parents and friends if they have a mobile phone. And what’s more, it’s a fashion.
However, others think that middle school students are not old enough to control themselves. It is a waste of time for students to play games and send messages to each other by mobile phone. If necessary, they can make phones calls by using public phones on the campus.
In my opinion, as middle school students, we should put all our heart into our studies though following the fashion is understandable.
