he failed in the exam.
*It is an honor that the minister will visit our
school . 2. It is strange(clear, obvious, quite clear, true, good,
fortunate, wonderful, funny, possible, quite
impossible, likely, unlikely, unusual, certain,

V. Some Other Important Points:
1. who/whoever :
*Who will be chosen president hasn’t been decided.
----It hasn’ been decided who will be chosen
president.

*Whoever cuts the trees down must be punished.
(whoever = anyone who; c.f. Those who…)

*If you don’t need these magazines, you may give
them to whoever needs them.
2. what/whatever :
*Please tell me what time it is.
I will do what I can to help you. (=the thing that)

*Here are many books. You may read whatever
you like. (=anything/everything that) (宾语)
Whatever is important should be done first. (主语)
3. The Comparison of Some Clauses :
*This is the place where I worked 3 years ago. (定语从句)
This is where I worked 3 years ago. (表语从句)
*I almost forgot the date when he was born. (定语从句)
I almost forgot when he was born. (宾语从句)
*Tell me the reason why you are late today. (定语从句)
Tell me why you are late today. (宾语从句)
*I don’t know whether it is going to rain. (宾语从句)
