(I) In this section, you are going to hear 5 short dialogues, and there is one question after each dialogue. Listen to each dialogue closely and choose the best answer from A, B and C. Each dialogue will be read only once.
(Text 1)
M: I'm in charge of buying the fruit for the children at our church. I'm so happy to find that apples and pears are in season. Give me two dozen of each.
W: I hope they are as good as they look.
(Text 2)
M; The guests are leaving for New York today on the ten o'clock flight. We need someone to get them to the airport.
W: I'd be happy to help, but my car is in the garage.
(Text 3)
M: Have you decided where you are going to live when you get married
W: I would like to live in the city near my company.
(Text 4)
M: Would you like to go to the beach this afternoon Bill and Loma are coming, too.
W: I'm sorry, but I am just going out shopping. I need to get the blouse that goes with my skirt.
(Text 5)
M: That was such an interesting movie. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.
W: I must admit that I felt quite sleepy after the first thirty minutes.
(II) Listen to the following dialogue closely, and then answer the questions using no more than 5 words. The dialogue will be read twice.
W: Do you think we'll have time to stop for lunch soon
M: Why Are you starving
W: Not quite, but almost. Don't forget I didn't eat any breakfast.
M: It was your own fault. You preferred staying in bed another thirty minutes to eating breakfast.
W: It seemed like a good idea at the time.
M: I won't let you starve. I have to stop for gas
W: Will that be long
M: Only about ten minutes.
(Ill) Listen to the following dialogue closely, and then choose the best answers. The dialogue will be read twice.
M: I'm sick.
W: You've been sick quite a bit since you got here, haven't you
M: Well, for the past few weeks, the weather has been changing a lot. One day it's hot outside, and the next day it's raining. I have no idea what I should put on. Just last Tuesday, I wore a T-shirt and a pair of shorts, and we had a heavy rain. I believe that is the reason why I'm sick now.
W: You just haven't got used to the weather in this city yet. Many newcomers have the same problem.
M: I guess I'll just have to buy lots of cold medicine.
W: Actually, there is something you can do. I heard that there is a weather hotline you can call in the morning. They will tell you the temperature for the day.
M: Yes, I think I've heard of the hotline. But it's very expensive and I don't have that kind of money.
W: But it's free.
