60 The Kindhearted Landlady
An old gentleman whose eyesight was failing came to a hotel with a bottle of whisky in each of his hands. As soon as he entered his room, he looked around to try to find a good place for his two bottles. On the wall there was a fly which he took for a nail. So the
moment he hung them on，the bottles fell broken and the liquid spilt all over the floor.
When the landlady knew what had happened，she showed deep sympathy for him and decided to do him a good favour.
So the next morning when the old gentleman was out taking a walk in the roof garden，she told the hotel worker to hammer a nail exactly where the fly had stayed．
Now the old man entered the room．The smell of the spilt whisky reminded him of the accident．He looked at the spot in anger, but again he found the “fly” was there．
He rushed to it and struck it with all his strength．
On hearing a loud cry，the kind一hearted landlady quickly walked in．To her surprise，the old man was there sitting on the floor, his teeth clenched and his right hand bleeding．
