Step I: Lead-in
How much do you know about modal verbs Let Ss talk something about it.
Step II:
1.must/have to
Eg. I must study hard for my parents.
It’s getting late. He has to go home.
We have to buy our tickets at least one week before the Spring Festival.
其否定式mustn’t表示“不准,禁止” 而don’t have to=needn’t
2.should/ought to
3.表示能力: can, could, be able to
be able to 能用于各种时态。
was / were able to : “设法做成某事” 相当于 managed to do sth.
succeeded in doing sth.。
4.need/dare
Eg. No one dare tell him the bad news.= No one dares to tell him the bad news.
You needn’t go there.= You don’t need to go there.
must+do “一定,准是” 否定用can’t 疑问用can
Eg.Your parents must be expecting you home.
must +have done“一定已经” 否定式can‘t have done
may/might +do“可能” may/might+have done“可能已经” should+do“应该”
1.should /ought to have done
must have done 一定已做 may/might have done可能已做
can’t have done不可能做
3.needn’t have done
could, would, might等情态动词均有委婉用法,它们不是过去式而是表示语气委婉、客气、礼貌,常用与疑问句,并多用于习惯表达, 如would you please, would you mind, would you like to等,might还可以用于肯定句表示推测,表示可能性小, might和could表示征求对方意见时,回答必须还成may, can.
Step III Practice
First, ask them to do the exercises by themselves, then check the answers together.
Step IV Homework
Finish the exercises about “Grammar” part in this unit after class.
