课件46张PPT。Speaking Do you want to form your own band to take part in the music festival?Form your own band in groups of six. Decide who will play what instrument and who will sing. Decide the name of your band and what kind of band you will be. For example, will you be a rock band, or a small group of singers? Then, choose an English song for your “band” to perform. You may find this song on the internet or on some of your own tapes or CDs. Practise singing your song to the music
and then perform to the class. This may be just the beginning for you and your band!LIU MEI: Right. Now let’s decide who should do what in our band. Who would like to do lead vocals? That’s our main singer. Sample dialogueWANG LI: Why not you? You have a lovely singing voice. I’ve head you sing before. But you’ll have to play lead guitar too. You can do it!
LIU MEI: Well, all right. Can you help me out on guitar and vocals?WANG LI: Sure, I can. What do the rest of you think?
OTHER: Yes, we agree.
LIU MEI: So how about you, Ma Xin? Do you think you can try bass guitar?
MA XIN: I’m not sure. What does that mean?LI QIN: It means you keep the beat, or rhythm, for them on a guitar.
MA XIN: OK. I can give it a try.
WU JUN: What about me? What can I do?
LIU MEI: Every band needs someone to play the drums.WU JUN: Great! I like to hit things to make noise!
LI QIN: OK. What will we call ourselves?
WANG LI : How about The Chopsticks. We work together.
MA XIN: Nope, I don’t like it. How about We Er Hu? Get it?WU JUN: That’s silly. Why not name the band The Silk Shirts?
MA XIN: Yeah, we all like silk clothes!
OTHERS: Sure, so The Silk Shirt it is.
LIU MEI: Fine. Now let’s decide what song we’ll play.S1: Some comfortable clothes would be best.
S2: Fine. I’ll talk to him and call you again very soon. Where would it be best to meet?
S1: At the studio if that is OK with you. Thank you very much.
S2: My pleasure.Making a note (P69).S1: I’m looking forward to the concert on Friday but I’m a bit worried about the arrangements.
S2: Yes, I know what you mean. It’s not clear whether we should have dinner before or after the concert. I suppose that depends on how we are going to get the concert hall.Sample dialogueS1: Well, what if we travel by taxi? We can get there earlier and go to the restaurant next door. I can ask them to keep us a table. But if you want to go by bus, it’ll take much longer and we’ll not have time to eat first. So what do you think?
S2: I think I’d prefer to eat first. What about you?S1: That’s fine with me. So let’s take a taxi together. How about meeting at the school gates and go from there. OK?
S2: That’s fine with me. I could be there at 6:30 and wait till you come.S1: Good. Now all we have to do is decide how much we want to pay for the tickets. There are some at 30 BMB up to 500 RMB. But I don’t think it’s worth paying a lot as you can hear beautifully wherever you sit. So I think we should get the cheapest seats.S2: Right. If we buy the cheapest seats then and we’ll have more money for a splendid dinner.
S1: Sounds great to me! Let’s do that.Sample dialogue
A: Well, I prefer to listen to Jolin. Her music makes me feel happier when I’m sad.
B: I don’t like her music very much.
A: Oh? Why not?Speaking task on P74B: It’s too simple. The words to the songs are so-so.

I like erhu music because it is so moving and it reminds me of wonderful snowy mountains, forests, and lakes where no one lives but the birds to enjoy their beauty . Writing task P74 The most loved music is Er Quan Yin Yue, which sounds very sad and is played by a famous musician who could not see.
The erhu is a very old instrument in China. An early form if the erhu could be found in the Tang Dynasty. It is made of wood and has two metal strings. The bow is placed between the two strings and the musician can play it standing up or sitting down.
Xu Ke is my favourite erhu player and he is famous throughout the world. I have even heard him play Western classical music for a violin on his erhu. It sounded very beautiful.Listening Listening P69Listen to the speaker’s opinions about music. Then answer the following questions.1. What type of music may help improve your memory?
Classical music may help you improve your memory.2. What does the “ Mozart effect” mean?
Listening to Mozart may help you to remember things.
3. Why doesn’t pop music have the same effect?
Pop music doesn’t have the same rhythm as classical music.
4. Why does playing an instrument help your maths?
Both playing an instrument and studying maths uses the same part of your brain.5. Why does the speaker encourage you to have music lessons?
Music lessons will let you develop your sense of rhythm, which will help your study of math. Or: Music lessons will make you more intelligent.Do you ever worry about taking exams? Do you sometimes forget what you have studied? How many times have you studied English words only to forget them the next day? Music may be able to help you. Some researchers have shown that if you listen to classical music, especially Mozart, while studying, it will improve your ability to remember. Listening textThis is called the “Mozart effect.” Does it work with all kinds of music? Researchers have tried it with other kinds of music such as pop and country, but they don’t seem to have the same effect. It seems that the rhythms of classical music help develop one’s memory. However, the improved memory only last a short time. What can you do to improve your intelligence over a long period of time? It seems that learning to play an instrument is helpful, especially for improving maths skills. Scientists think this is because the area of our brain that calculates rhythm is also the place where we store our maths knowledge. So, if you want to become more intelligent, go to a music class!Listening task on P72has a patternMozartoperamathematicalBach choral musicClassical music does not have words. It tries to describe feelings with notes and instruments. It is called classical music because it was written at a time when there was no country, pop or rock music. The music had to be very carefully composed to fit a special pattern. Listening textOnly the cleverest musicians could compose beautiful music with this pattern. Mozart was one of these special composers. He began to write his own music when he was very young. His father was a musician and he encouraged his son to play music. Mozart played so well that he became very famous while he was still a young boy. He always had the most wonderful music in his head. When he grew older he wrote music for operas which told stories in music. Some people think he is the greatest composer that has ever lived. ( Example of Mozart’s music.)Another very important classical composer was Bach. He was not famous in his lifetime but became very famous after his death. He worked as the music master in a small church and had to write new songs to sing every week.He also composed music for people to listen to as they left the church at the end of the service. Some of his music is very mathematical, with different parts that repeat each other in a very peaceful way. All his music was written for God and some of is very moving. He never became a rich man but his music has special place in classical music. (Example of a Bach fugue play on the organ.)
