London—Lazy students can now give up on work altogether as two Oxford University students have made scores of A-grade essays (论文) on the website for students to copy.
The essays are on the new website, “revise. it”
The website contains an “EssayLab” designed to make cheating (舞弊) as effective and effortless as possible.
Its homepage announces to surfers (网上冲浪者): “The revise. it EssayLab is a bank of hundreds of A-Level essays covering popular topics.”
“Next time you are asked to write an essay, why not see what we have on the subject—if you are in a lazy state of mind you can even use our guide to writing the essays and then just hand them in.”
Nick Rose and Jordan Mayo, both 19 and first from Manchester, spent much of their first year as students at the university setting up the website. There is no charge for downloading the essays.
“I have never been very good at essay writing,” Rose admitted. “We don’t see essay bank as a cheating way. It’s a surprising valuable resource. You can learn a lot by reading other people’s work on the subject.”
Among other tips, the website suggests inventing important speeches to give essays extra weight: “Popular people to quote (引用) are Douglass Hurd or Disraeli.”
Hurd was a foreign secretary in the 1980s and Disraeli was a 19th century prime minister.
Teachers are expressing their opinions by e-mail that they are angry about the website that “encourages students to cheat”, but students disagree.
According to Rose: “Exams are a fight. It’s us against them.”
41. It can be inferred from this passage that ______.
students who visit the website “revise. it” are all lazy

websites in Oxford University are all set up by students
websites can provide people with different kinds of information
42. Nick Rose and Jordan Mayo set up their website for the purpose of ______.

43. What Rose said at last suggests that in England ______.
it is difficult for students to pass their exams
B. it is difficult for teachers to finish their teaching

“Go for it!”
The expression “Go for it!” is a way of encouraging someone to try something.
“Go for it!”means you should not worry about failure or be to careful. You should take a chance, be brave, and act firmly.
“Go for it!”gets name from football. Not football as it is played in most countries such as England, Egypt or Japan, but the kind of football played in the United States and Canada.
One of the most exciting times in football comes when a team has failed, after three attempts, to move the ball forward ten yards. The team must make a critical decision.
The conservative (保守) choice is to kick the ball and accept temporary defeat in order to gain a good position for your team the next time it gets the ball. The more exciting choice, however, is to try a fourth and final time to gain the remaining yards needed.
People present are certain to shout their advice. Some will shout: “Kick the ball!” But others will encourage the team to take a chance. “Go for it!” they will scream.
In the nineteen eighties, people began using this expression in many kinds of situations to encourage someone to act bravely.
There is no guarantee (保证) that the action you “go for it” will succeed.
But that is the chance you take when you decide to go for it. You put your fears behind. You choose courage over safety. You hold your breath and go for it.
44. The expression “Go for it!” comes from _______
A. English football B. Egyptian football
C. Japanese football D. American football
45. According to the passage, when we decide to go for it, we only consider ________
A. safety B. action C. result D. situation
46. In which of the following situations should we use the expression nowadays?
A. We decide to avoid trouble or danger for the future.
B. We try to improve our English for better education.
C. We need to make a quick decision at the last moment.
D. We have to make a choice between success and failure.

A Battery’s Worst Nightmare (噩梦)
Portable electronics that can be carried about easily are only as good as their batteries and, let’s face it, batteries aren’t very good, especially when compared with, say, petrol, which packs 100 times a battery’s energy into an equal space. That’s why a large group of mechanical engineers (centered at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, but with partners at other universities and companies) are hard at work in an effort to replace batteries with a tiny engine that runs on fuel. Imagine a battery-free life! When the fuel runs out in your laptop or mobile phone, you just fill up and go.
The engine—about the size of a ten-cent coin—starts with a combustion chamber (燃烧室) that burns hydrogen (氢) . Its tiny parts are etched 刻onto silicon wafers (硅片) in the same manner that computer parts are imprinted压 onto integrated circuits (集成电路). The first engine is made up of five wafers. And since these wafers could be produced in much the same way as computer chips, they could probably be produced quite cheaply.
But the devil in all this nice detail is efficiency(效率). Tiny engine parts don’t always behave like their scaled-up parts of the first engine. Something between the parts can slow down the works, according to Columbia University professor Luc Frechette, one of the engine’s designers. Extreme heat from the combustion chamber is also a problem, often leaking to other parts of the engine.
The scientists’ goal is to create an engine that will operate at 10 percent efficiency —that is, 10 times better than batteries operate. Frechette says that a complete system, with all parts of place and working, will be set up in the next couple of years, but commercial models aren’t like until at least the end of the next ten years.
47. According to the passage, the title suggests that ________
A. batteries needn’t be improved
B. petrol has been used instead of batteries
C. the time of batteries will possibly be gone forever
D. batteries will last for a long time
48. What’s the meaning of the underlined word “devil” in paragraph 3?
A. problem B. advantage C. invention D. technique
49. What can we infer from the passage?
A. The new invention doesn’t need any fuel.
B. The new engine has been produced in quantity.
C. The new invention is much cheaper than the battery.
D. The new engine needs to be improved before it’s on sale
50. What is the main purpose of this passage?
A. To introduce a new invention to readers.
B. To persuade readers not to use batteries.
C. To show us how a new invention is made.
D. To declare when the engine will be on sale.
D
The use of the word imitation(模仿)reminds me that we ought to make some more comments on the risk of people imitating what they see on the screen in the way of crime(犯罪)or violence.First there was always a risk of children acting out scenes which could be dangerous.Fo example,I remember a woman who was head of a middle school telling me that she had happened to look out of her window when the children were in the playground and had seen them putting a small boy on a chair with a rope round his neck and the rope over the branch of a tree;fortunately she was in time to get there before the child was hung .I remember a film in particular in which the hero who was imprisoned had escaped by electrocuting(通电触死)his guard, the technique of doing this being shown in detail. This was the kind of scene which we could cut for these reasons.
Every time I gave a talk in a prison someone used to mention the French film Rififi made by Jules Dassin in 1954 .This remarkable film showed in great detail a robbery of a jeweller’s shop ,the robbery lasting about half an hour and being backed only by natural sound……one of the most brilliant film sequences(连续镜头)of all time .I remember our discussions at the time.We thought that the robbery experienced and skilled criminals could possibly imitate it ;we believed therefore that it was relatively safe .When talking in prisons some years later I learned that there had been several robberies in which the techniques had been copied ,so perhaps we were wrong.
51.The writer thinks that _______.
the details of the criminal technique should be kept
the details of the crime should not be shown on the screen
children should imitate what they saw on the screen
it was dangerous to imitate what they had seen on the screen
52.What was the writer’s attitude (态度) towards the film in which the hero had escaped by electrocuting the guard?
The writer kept the same opinion
The writer was strongly against it.
The writer thought the film had some value.
The writer did not show his /her attitude.
53.Parents in prison agreed to film checking because________.
they did not want their children to follow them
the crime on screen could be imitated without difficulty
they had given a talk on it
they had made mistakes
54.All the following statements about “Rififi”are true EXCEPT____________.
that the robbery shown needs experience and skills.
That some very good tools were used in the robbery
That the film showed the tedhnique in detail
That the technique of the robbery was not imitated
55.It can be inferred from the passage that__________.
it is hard for the children to tell the differences between real life and the imaginary
only the people in prison supported film checking
only children imitated what they had seen on the screen
the writer used to advise the details of crime should be shown

Dear Alice ,
How nice to hear from you . You want to know what is going on in schools in China . Now , I will tell you about it .
In the past , exam-oriented education forced us to listen to our teachers while taking notes in class . We did all kinds of exercises without end , though it was 5 o’clock in the afternoon . After supper , we had to continue our exercises far into the night .
Now , quality-oriented education has made our school life colourful . We are active in class . In order to train the ability , we often do research on study ( research into study ). Sometimes one of us teaches ourselves . We have various outside activities , such as singing , dancing , English Corner , and taking computer lessons . Basketball and football are our favourite sports . In the evening we can watch news on TV, do experiments by ourselves and have talks and discussions of our subjects .
In all,our school life is getting more and more colourful and interesting .
Best wishes .
Yours ,
Li Hua
