DO you blank out, freeze up (呆住) or feel so nervous in exams that you have trouble writing answers to questions that you knew just last night?
If so, you likely have a case of test anxiety .
But, don't panic.By recognizing the problem, you are taking the first step towards overcoming it.
Believe it or not, a touch of nervousness can sharpen your mind, allowing you to perform more quickly. This is because under stress, the body releases the hormone adrenaline (肾上腺素), which prepares it for something important that will happen. However, too much anxiety can result in sleeplessness, loss of appetite before tests, and poor performance. Some people might feel shaky, hot, or even sick.
If you worry a lot or are a perfectionist, you are more likely to have trouble with test anxiety. Those who have prepared poorly for a test or have had negative experiences taking tests may also experience test anxiety.
When you feel a storm of anxiety coming on, stop what you're doing and make your mind a blank. If possible, actually tell yourself to 'STOP!' This will get your mind off the stress.
Then think of being at a place of comfort and let your body relax. As you continue the test, find questions you know the answers to and answer them first. This will help restore your confidence.
Talk to yourself using positive language.Make it a habit to replace each negative thought with a logical reason. For example: "I've studied hard and I know the material, so I'm ready to do the best I can."
Another thing you can do is to learn to accept mistakes. In fact, they can be valuable learning opportunities.
Last but not least, start test preparation early - three to five days ahead of the quiz or test. After all, good study habits and skills - for example, time management and note-taking - will give you the feeling that you are in control.
56.What’s the first step that you are taking to smooth away the anxiety?
A.to blank out B.to recognize the problem
C.to freeze up D.to answer the question
57.How can you get the feeling that you are in control and which of the following is wrong?
A.Time management. B.Note-taking.
C.Overstudying. D.Early preparation.
58.In this passage ______ ways to deal with nerves are mentioned.
A.4. B.3. C.2. D.5.
59.This passage mainly tells us that ______ .
A.it’s natural to have test anxiety B.you can deal with the test anxiety by yourself.
C.how to form a good habit D.the advice on how to handle the test anxiety
60.Which of the following can be the best title for the passage?
A.Don’t panic. C.Fully preparing.
C.How to beat nerves. D.How to accept mistakes.

From e-mail to on-line shopping, you may think you’ve heard everything there to know about the electronic frontier. But with hundreds of thousands of Web pages being added weekly, there are plenty of surprises out there. Here are some of the most intriguing .
Put your kid on a greeting card. Here is how: simply take some pictures with a regular camera, and then ask the photo service them digitally. For a small fee, you’ll receive your photos on a desk.Put that into your computer and, with a few clicks of the mouse, you can view your photos on the screen. With a few more keystrokes, you can attach the photos to e-mail and send them to friends and relatives worldwide.
Call Australia for free.To have a telephone conversation over the Internet, the person you want to talk to no longer needs a computer. Now all you need to talk to someone in Sydney is one computer with speakers, a microphone, a sound cord and some software ( available at “www.vocaltec.com” or “Microsoft.com”).Typically, you’ll pay a monthly fee (usually under $20) to a service provider, but after that, the calls themselves are local.Sound quality is the same as that of a cellphone.
Even if you don’t have a computer, you can still use the Web to reduce your long distance phone costs. Some companies offer a service that lets you use an ordinary phone to call another ordinary phone, but charge only a few cents per minute for US calls, because they send them through the Internet.
Today 48 percent of American homes have computers… a figure that is expected to climb to 70 percent by 2008.and by the end of the next decade, Americans will likely be spending more time shopping, banking, investing and learning on the Internet than in the real world. If you can’t do or find something on the Net today, you probably can tomorrow.

A.digitalize B.take C.picture D.send
64.Which of the following is NOT true?

A SENSORY explosion was there waiting for us as we entered the underground jazz bar.
The five-member live band was playing loud, energetic music. The eager crowd couldn't get enough of it.Some nodded in satisfaction.Others tapped their feet. But most were out on the dance floor, laughing as they threw their bodies around to the music. With scenes like this, it's no wonder I haven't been able to leave Paris. There is always something going on here.I never planned to go to a jazz bar in this city.I worried at first that it wasn't French enough – I can easily see jazz at home. But some old friends of mine, who are studying in Paris, told me that I wouldn't regret it.
It didn't take long for me to agree. The scene in front of me is hilariously chaotic. There's no room on the tiny dance floor. My friend tells me that this space was once used as a torture room during World War II.She's not joking.Prisoners at that time must have been shocked seeing the damp stone basement.I couldn't think of a more stark contrast to the joy on display tonight. No jazz bar in Australia would have a history like this! The leader of the band is an old French saxophonist in his 70s.He's cool and charismatic, sometimes ambling up to the microphone to sing a couple of words.I'm told that he has been playing at this bar for over 45 years. So how could I refuse when he points to us and tells us to get on the dance floor too? I feel completely out of place - there are some skilled dancers about.Clearly many come here every week. But the energy pulls us through and we have a ball.It is easily my favourite time in Paris.I certainly didn't expect that. Adrian e-mailed me recently to say that he had arrived home safely.I plan to return soon too.Of course, I will have to find a way to pull myself out of Paris first.
66.How did the author find the jazz bar?
A.A friend told him about it. B.He found it by accident.
C.A relative led him there. D.He just passed by.

70.You can infer in the passage that ______ .
A.the atmosphere was impressive B.the author didn’t enjoy it
C.the jazz bar used to be a pub D.how the author danced.

We can forget about little green men from outer space; it is the giant green vegetables from China that should concern us.British and American scientists have been left perplexed by claims emanating(发出) from the world's most populated country that it has managed to grow extra large marrows(西葫芦) and peppers from seeds sent into orbit.
While western scientists scoff and champion vegetable growers look on in disbelief, the Chinese claim they have achieved their feat by exposing seeds to high radiation levels and low gravity in space. The resulting vegetables, they say, easily outgrow their terrestrial(陆生的) counterparts.
The company which has produced the vegetables claims they come from a programme carried out by space scientists to boost yields and increase production in the country's constant search for new ways to feed a population thought to have reached 1.3 billion.
At the Greenhome company's farm, near the southern city of Guangzhou, the peppers are reported to have an unusually high vitamin C content and their seeds yield 30% more vegetables than normal.
Similar claims are made for strains of rice modified in space. Some larger and taste sweeter.“The seeds are carried into space by a rocket and returned to earth after three or four days, then they are carefully cultivated by experts ,” said Xie Zhongqing, manager of the Greenhome farm.
For China's leaders, the potential of space seeds outweighs any discernible (看得清的) risk.Space Daily revealed last year that under State Project 863 the country has launched eight recoverable spacecraft and five high altitude balloons containing more than 70 varieties of crop seeds including rice, oil seeds, cotton , vegetables and fruit.
71.Why do Chinese scientists develop this programme?
A.Because of the scitific research.
B.Because the vegetables have a high vitamin C content.
C.Because of searching for new ways to feed a population thought to have reached 1.3 billion.
D.Because of little green men from outer space

A.Giant vegetables are high in fiber
B.Chinese government will carry on this programme

Dear editor,
Nowadays a discussion on whether to build a chemical works near our school is held and the result of the discussion is as follow.
Some of the students are in favor of the proposal that the chemical works should be built right near our school. The owner of the chemical works has already promised to try their best to limit the pollution of the air and water. And our school can get a lot of money from the works, which can be used to set up a library.Besides, the chemical works will supply jobs to hundreds of people living nearby.
The others are against the suggestion that the chemical works should be built right near our school. The loud noises will affect our classes greatly. The air, the water and the soil around our school will be polluted. The chemical works will take up much of our playground. It will make it difficult for the students to have sports.

M: Let’s meet outside BNZ in High Street at lunch time.I’ll bring my chemistry book to you.
W: Good idea.I’m very worried about the chemistry exam.Have you got any old exam papers? I’d really like to look through them.
M: I haven’t, but Matthew got some, I’ll bring them with me at lunch time.
W: Wonderful! See you at 12: 15.OK?

Well, now.Ladies and Gentlemen. That was our last time, and all I want to do is to thank our performers for the pleasure they have given us this evening. And of course I must express our thanks to those who’ve worked behind the scenes, and especially our producer. But most of all I want to say thank you to all of you for coming here this evening and supporting this event, especially in such weather.I think perhaps I should take this chance to make an apology to those sitting in the back rows. We’ve make some repairs to the roof, but unfortunately the rain tonight was unexpectedly heavy, and we’re thankful to you for your understanding and cheerful good humor. We had hoped that the repairs would be enough. But we were recently told that the whole roof would have to be replaced. We were upset to learn the news because it’s only five years since we replaced the roof of the church itself. And so we shall be having another concert soon, I hope.
