Almost everyone has heard stories about lucky adventures finding buried treasure, but few people take treasure hunting seriously. They figure that most lost treasures have already been found by someone. Fortunately, however, for the many serious treasure seekers, there are still plenty of treasures to be found in the United States. Experts on the subject believe that over four billion dollars in lost treasure is just waiting to be found. The treasure is not all on one place, of course. That would be too easy, A serious treasure hunter must be determined and investigate one particular lost treasure, gathering as many clues about its whereabouts as possible. Gold , jewels and currency make up most lost treasures. The stories behind these hidden riches are extremely varied and always interesting. For example, during the Civil War, a band of Confederate soldiers robbed a Union bank of $ 114,000 in gold, which has never been recovered. The infamous outlaw Jesse James stole one million dollars in gold bars which the government never found. Oklahoma would be the place to go looking for that treasure. The notorious pirate Captain Kidd buried $ 50,000 in gold and jewels on Long Island , New York, in 1699. He was hanged before he could dig it up or tell someone where it was. Hundreds of other treasure remain to be found. All it takes is a little research, a good map and a lot of good luck.

This 33-year-old, white, university –educated person is the typical Internet workers, according to a study by the Industry Standard, a San Francisco-based news magazine.
The typical worker, it appears, not only enjoys an income about three times the national average but also enjoys himself. At present 2.5 million people are employed by Internet firms in the US. The results of the study give plenty of reasons why so many people think the grass is greener in Silicon Valley.
Even after tech stocks sharply went down in April , closing many start-ups, there is still a mood of enthusiasm and special advantage among those still employed. So what makes them “very happy ” “Demanding work” is given as the main reason and “salary” (薪水)is unsurprisingly close behind. Like fine food, good writing is something we approach with pleasure and enjoy from the first taste to the last. And good writers, like good cooks, do not suddenly appear full-blown. Quite the opposite, just as the cook has to experience a particular training, mastering the skills of his trade, the writer must sit at his desk and devote long hours to achieve a style in his writing, whatever its purpose is --- schoolwork , matters of business, or purely social communication.
You may be sure that the more painstaking the effort, the more effective the writing, and the more rewarding.
There are still some faraway places in the world where you might find a public scribe(抄写)to do business or social writing for you, for money. There are a few managers who are lucky enough to have the service of that rare kind of secretary who can take care of all sorts of letter writing with no more than a quick note to work from. But for most of us, if there is any writing to be done, we have to do it ourselves.
We have to write school papers, business papers or home papers. We are constantly called on to put words to papers. It would be difficult to count the number of such words, message, letters, and reports put into mails or delivered by hand, but the daily figures must be extremely large. What is more, everyone who writes expects, or at least hopes whatever he writes will be read, from first word to last, not just thrown into some “letters –to-be-read” files or into a wastepaper basket. This is the reason we bend our efforts toward learning and practicing the skills of interesting, effective writing.
64. The author compares good writing to fine cooking mainly because both are ________.
A. difficult to learn B. rewarding C. necessary to life D. enjoyable
65. It can be inferred from the passage that a good writer should ___________.
A. have his own style of writing B. write as well as a good secretary
C. learn to write all kinds of articles D. get more experience than writing skills
66. According to the author, the reason for us to practice writing skills is to _________.
A. earn one’s living B. attract others to read
C. do daily reports easily D. become good secretaries
67. The underlined word “ full-blown” ( Para. 1 ) means ______________.
A. fully developed or matured B. full of taste
C. completely experienced D. completely successful
D
Just the Job
Rodney Mace, 35, is married with two young children, and is a part-time teacher of architectural history, “I am constantly surprised by other people’s surprise, when they come to the house and see me cleaning a floor or hanging out the washing. Their eyes open wide at the sight of it ! Much of the comment comes from men, but I am even more surprised at the number of women who comment too.”
His wife Jane, an Oxford graduate in modern languages, has a demanding full-time job. She is director of the Cambridge House Literacy scheme for adults in South London. Her working week involves several evenings and Saturdays, and at these times her husband is in sole charge of home and family . Apart from this, they share household jobs and employ a child –minder for the afternoons. This enables him to teach two days a week and to do what he considers his principal work: writing. He has written several books and spends much of his time in the British Museum Reading Room, cycling there from his home in Britain.
People ask the Maces if they think that their children miss them. One can argue that satisfied parents generally have satisfied children. but in any case the Maces are careful to reserve time and energy to play with their children. And they have now developed relationships with other adults and children.
Previously, Rodney Mace worked full-time and Jane only part-time. Then 18 months ago, the director of the literacy scheme left. “It seemed to me that Jane was very well suited to do this job. She was very doubtful about it. But I urged her to apply. She did, and she got it,” Jane Mace confirms that she needed this encouragement , as so many women initially do.
Did his male ego suffer from the change-over Nothing like that occurred. But he still seems amazed at the way it changed his thinking: “I felt that we were finally going to be partners. I felt enormous relief. I wasn’t avoiding responsibility, but changing it. Our relationship is so much better now. It has been a change for the good for both of us--- I think for all of us, in every aspect or our lives. I cannot overemphasize that: in every aspect. I think it is fundamental that the woman works. The idea of equal partnership is an illusion if one partner doesn’t work.
68. At one time. Rodney Mace ________.
A. had a full-time job
B. taught architecture and history
C. spent all his time writing books
D. worked from the Cambridge House literacy scheme
69. It is implied in the passage that __________.

A. is applauded worldwide
B. has developed at an unheard-of speed

D. seems to be sacrificing the men’s interests to the women’s
71. We can infer from this passage that a change –over of roles in the family ________.
A. is quite necessary in modern life
B. is probably based on some practical reasons
C. shows women are not necessarily inferior to men
D. aims solely at a complete emancipation of women

Firstly, dishwasher can set my mother free from everyday dishwashing. Then more time can be spared for rest or to do things she likes to do. Secondly, dishwasher can protect mother from detergent which is rather harmful to her hands.
