Do you find getting up in the morning so difficult that it’s painful This might be called laziness, but Dr. Kleitman has a new explanation. He has proved that everyone has a daily energy cycle.
During the hours when you labor through your work you may say that you’re “hot”, that’s true. The time of day when you feel most energetic is when your cycle of body temperature is at its peak(最高峰). For some people the peak comes during the forenoon. For others it comes in the afternoon or evening. No one has discovered why it is so, but it leads to such familiar monologues(自言自语)as: “Get up, John! You’ll be late for work again!” the possible explanation to the trouble is that John is at his temperature—and—energy peak in the evening. Much family quarrelling ends when husbands and wives realize what these energy cycles mean, and which cycle each member of the family has.
You can’t change your energy cycle, but you can learn to make your life fit it better. Habit can help, Dr. Kleitman believes. Maybe you’re sleepy in the evening but feel you must stay up late anyway. Counteract(对抗)your cycle to some extent by habitually staying up later than you want to. If your energy is low in the morning but you have an important job to do early in the day, rise before your usual hour. This won’t change your cycle, but you’ll get up steam and work better at your low point.
Get off to a slow start which saves your energy. Get up with a leisurely yawn(呵欠)and stretch. Sit on the edge of the bed a minute before putting your feet on the floor. Avoid the troublesome search for clean clothes by laying them out the night before. Whenever possible, do routine work in the afternoon and save tasks requiring more energy or concentration for your sharper hours.
41. If a person finds getting up early a problem, most probably ______.
A.he is a lazy person

C.he is not sure when his energy is low
D he is at his peak in the afternoon or evening
42. Which of the following may lead to family quarrels according to the passage
A.Not knowing about the energy cycle
B.Familiar monologues
C.A change in a family member’s energy cycle

43. If one wants to work more efficiently at his low point in the morning, he should ______.
A.change his energy cycle B.overcome his laziness
C.get up earlier than usual D.go to bed earlier
44. You are advised to rise with a yawn and stretch because it will ______.
A.help to keep your energy for the day’s work
B.help you to control your temper early in the day
C.enable you to concentrate on your routine work
D.keep your energy cycle under control all day

Cover girl, anchorwoman(主持人), author, actress, singer and master(硕士)…Put all these images together, you may get a Korean woman called Lee Young—ae. Wisdom, beauty, diligence and knowledge—Lee has got everything. No wonder she was chosen to play Jang Geum(长今), a perfect woman, in the hugely popular TV drama “Dae Jang Geum” (《大长今》)。
Lee was the youngest child in her family. Her parents and two brothers held her in special favor. Unlike other girls who love playing with dolls, Lee was fond of wrestling. “I often got bruised from head to foot. But I never felt unhappy about that, the wounds were the records of happy memories.”
Lee started modeling in primary school, but she did that for pocket money and never took it seriously. She later entered college majoring in German and decided to be a teacher.

Every year, Lee seems to get better. With each new TV drama of film, the characters she plays have become more diverse and complex.

Teenagers at Tarkington elementary school in Chicago, America started their first day of classes at a school where flowering plants grow on the roof. It’s one of America’s small but growing number of environmental—friendly schools. It is special because it is in a major city better known for towers of steel and concrete and not in some small town or tree—hugging city.
Different from other Chicago buildings, Tarkington has a living green roof planted above the gymnasium. It’s a garden of self—sustaining flowering plants that don’t need much water and can endure Chicago’s weather.
“It looks much better than other schools,” said 12—year—old Dulce Vega. He was excited at the thought of having science classes on the roof. If the students are lucky they might even see birds nesting there.
The soil and plants will help keep the building warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Rainwater draining (排水) into the soil will be directed to a nearby pond.
The school also is designed to use 30 percent less water than expected for a building of its size and gets half of its electricity from renewable resources. It has a reflective covering to reduce the amount of heat getting in.
Aside from saving on costs of water and energy, the school is exciting for what it can do for its students. It is believed that the air quality in a “green” building is better than other schools, and that students won’t be sick as much and may even perform better.
What’s more, the green roof will offer lessons on life cycles and plant life.

Mr. Peter Johnson, aged twenty three, battle for half an hour to escape from his trapped car yesterday when it landed upside down in three feet of water. Mr. Johnson took the only escape route—through the boot(行李箱).
Mr. Johnson’s car had finished up in a ditch(沟渠)at Romney Marsin, Kent, after skidding on ice and hitting a bank.“Fortunately, the water began to come in only slowly,”Mr. John said,“I couldn’t force the doors because they were jammed against the walls of the ditch and dared not open the windows because I knew water would come flooding in.”
Mr. Johnson, a sweet salesman of Sittingborrne, Knet, first tried to attract the attention of other motorists by sounding the horn and hammering on the roof and boot, then he began his struggle to escape.
Later he said,“It was really a half penny which saved my life. It was the only coin I had in my pocket and I used it to unscrew the back seat to get into the boot. I hammered desperately with a hammer trying to make someone hear, but no help came.”
It took ten minutes to unscrew the seat and a further five minutes to clear the sweet samples from the boot. Then Mr. Johnson found a wrench and began to work on the boot lock. Fifteen minutes passed by.“It was the only chance I had. Finally it gave, but as soon as I moved the boot lid, the water and mud poured in. I forced the lid down into the mud and scrambled clear as the car filled up.”
His hands and arms cut and bruised(擦伤),Mr. Johnson got to Beckett Farm nearby, where he was looked after by the farmer’s wife, Mrs. Lucy Bates. He was the baby with no name. Found and taken from the north Atlantic 6 days after the sinking of the Titanic in 1912, his tiny body so moved the salvage (救援) workers that they called him “our baby.” In their home port of Halifax, Nova Scotia, people collected money for a headstone in front of the baby's grave (墓), carved with the words: “To the memory of an unknown child.” He has rested there ever since.
But history has a way of uncovering its secrets. On Nov. 5, this year, three members of a family from Finland arrived at Halifax and laid fresh flowers at the grave. “This is our baby,” says Magda Schleifer, 68, a banker. She grew up hearing stories about a great-aunt named Maria Panula,42, who had sailed on the Titanic for America to be reunited with her husband. According to the information Mrs. Schleifer had gathered, Panula gave up her seat on a lifeboat to search for her five children—including a 13-month-old boy named Eino from whom she had become separated during the final minutes of the crossing. "We thought they were all lost in the sea," says Schleifer.
Now, using teeth and bone pieces taken from the baby's grave, scientists have compared the
DNA from the Unknown Child with those collected from members of five families who lost relatives on the Titanic and never recovered the bodies. The result of the test points only to one possible person: young Eino. Now, the family sees: no need for a new grave. "He belongs to the people of Halifax," says Schleifer. "They've taken care of him for 90 years."

One possible version:
At present, Internet Slang, such as “GG”, “MM”, “Xia Mi”, has become many teenagers’ pet phrases, appearing in their homework, reports, and even compositions in the National Entrance Exam.
There are different opinions on Internet Slang. Some students think Internet Slang is vivid, fashionable and full of humor and intelligence. Besides, it makes chatting on the Internet quicker.
However, some other students think Internet Slang lacks depth of thought and it is too simple. Above all, it is still not so popular as to be understood and accepted by most people. If the words are used too often, people will just be confused, and sometimes resulting in misunderstanding.
In my opinion, there are always two sides to everything. Living in the Information Age, if we don’t know these Internet Slang, we seem to lag behind the times . It will be OK as long as these terms are used correctly in proper situations.
